I managed to get a Travelocity car rental at an agency just down the street from my hotel, and it proved a fortuitous choice beyond just the convenience. First, the service was very cordial and professional throughout both visits(pickup and dropoff). The first clerk asked about my itinerary, and offered directions to my first stop, down south in the Borders region. He sketched out the first portion on a Dollar map of the immediate vicinity. Then he pulled out a large-format UK road atlas, pointed out my route, and GAVE me the atlas, which they retail in the shop for £12.(And believe me, that atlas came in HANDY during the next five days.) It got even better. I had reserved a compact car, the second-cheapest variety. I had already PAID for a compact car through Travelocity. The vehicle that they gave me was a brand-new Saab 95. They never mentioned giving me an upgrade or said anything else about the car type. So I got to tool around Scotland in a Saab 95 for the price of a Ford Festiva. How cool is that?! The warm and efficient service was enough to set them apart from car rental services in the States. Giving me the atlas was quite unexpectedly generous. The 95 was way above and beyond anything that I could have hoped for.
