I love Fisher’s in the City! They never disappoint. I’ve been here multiple times. The seafood is always fresh and tasty no matter what you order, whether it’s oysters, scallops, mussels, fish and chips or monkfish. If you do visit this place PLEASE try the sticky toffee pudding!!! It is the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve had anywhere — mind-blowing.

Go for the seafood platter. If you love perfectly cooked lobster, crab, langoustines, oysters, mussels and cockles swimming happily in garlicky. parsleyed butter, that is. Yum. We got the platter for two and could barely finish(two good appetites!). It is all you need to order. Plus maybe a beer or two.

Great food, lovely restaurant and well worth a visit. The scallops and pork belly was amazing and the home made ice blackberry cream was just incredible. The waiting staff were not very friendly or attentive though and let the kitchen down a little bit.

Cod fish and chips were good, was hoping it would be best ever fish and hips experience, but just ok. Fish chowder was pretty good — really rich. Attentive service,

Great seafood platter with smoked salmon, gravlax etc. Awesome hot seafood as well! The mussels were a little mealy but overall delicious and well priced(6.5GBP for a shareable small portion). Great place for lunch and ABSOLUTELY excellent for smoked salmon!

Finger bowls! You get honest to goodness lemon rind in a tiny bowl of hot water so that you can keep your fingers clean as you disassemble your glorious tub of fresh delicious seafood. Scallops on the half shell, whole langoustines, split lobsters… all the greats were in play. Mussels in a garlic white wine sauce & über fresh fish in an intimate dimly lit space. It was a tad warm for us(ah, August in the UK)… But we thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

Excellent meal. The fish stew was wonderfully done, and hand diver Orkney scallops simply delicious. Great service as well.

The food is great. And the service too. This is my second time at the restaurant(my second time to Edinburgh too). It’s so good that we have to re visit it again. Oysters are incredible.

Went with a group of friends for dinner and drinks. I wasn’t particularly feeling seafood that night so had steak for my main, which was hugely underwhelming. There was a lot of sinew and overall just not cooked well. On the other hand, the cold mix plate to start was lovely and the wine list is impressive. I’ve heard Fishers in Leith is the one you want to go to, this it like the bumbling younger sibling that tries but just can’t quite get it.

Started with cold bread, but we are going to look past it. Went to an immediate high with the fish cake. And that kept getting higher with the North Sea Hake main and a full rainbow trout dish. Recommended.

AMAZING. One if the best meals of my life… perfectly cooked seafood and one of the best service teams I’ve seen. Richard and James topped off the great food. We managed to sneak in but a resy would make life easier. We snuck into the lounge(same menu but closer to the bevys!!). Work it in and you won’t regret it.

We had a fabulous dinner… This is a place to seek out… They made room for us; however I would recommend reservations. We loved Amy, Jemma(her evil twin :)) and Graeme, they were great with the patrons! My husband who is not a seafood lover– enjoyed his ribeye and the three of us loved several of the seafood options… Can’t go wrong!

Went for our first lunch in Edinburgh, and we enjoyed everything thoroughly. I ordered the big portion of mussels in white wine broth and a glass of red wine. The food was delightful, and the mussels were very fresh. My friend ordered the lunch set menu, and she enjoyed everything too. She particularly liked the soup — great for a chilly day in the city. Service was good — prompt and kind. Also appreciated the ambience — it was sophisticated and yet down to earth. If you’re in the area, take a stroll down the alley and enjoy this lovely place!

Excellent seafood and comfortable surroundings. A great place to take family, friends or colleagues if you want to impress and something a little more different in the city centre. We shared the fish cakes to start — which were divine — my girlfriend had the half lobster(and chunky homemade chips), while I had the prawn Thai curry, with a delicious desert to share, washed down with coffee for only £22.50 each. Absolute bargain and left feeling warm and very satisfied. The only reason why this isn’t a 5 star is down to the service. Although everyone was pleasant, we felt the waitress was a bit pushy trying to increase the bill with extra starters and trying to sell us wine even though we weren’t drinking. There was also a slightly pretentious vibe coming from the waiters despite its claim of casual dining. But besides this minor point, this is an excellent restaurant and highly recommended.

Solid 4 stars from me — was pretty great but I wasn’t blown away, although I can’t fault much. We popped in for lunch — not the cheapest place in town but eating seafood in Scotland usually is an expensive business. I went for the lunch special — langoustines with scallops(£23). I was pleased to see they served the scallops with roe on them — yes! Lots of people remove this which is just plain wrong and the scallops were decently sized — unfortunately one of my scallops was missing the roe :-( Langoustines were perfectly cooked and really great. Eating shellfish can be a messy business but all the required ‘equipment’ was provided. Service — good, left to chat and the occasional enquiry if we needed anything else but apart from that, all good. A glass of Sancerre went with the seafood and we ordered some chips on the side(salad came with the shellfish). The chips were ok, nothing special. Staff can advise what is Gluten Free(GF) but no GF bread available. So, decently, well prepared seafood in the centre of town.

I’ve glanced at Fishers so many times, but the menu has never really leapt out at me, until tonight. We were roaming around seeking inspiration for an impromptu meal out, and after a few lacklustre ‘hmm I guess that would do…’ menus, we came across Fishers, and both of us lit up. I tucked into the spiced aubergine soup(tasty and spicy, with nice texture from almond slices) and penang curry which was lovely and had the perfect level of spice for me. The pineapple chutney was fantastic, the fruity flavour cut nicely through the rich coconut. The SR had the deluxe fish and chips(fish and battered prawns), some fantastic looking chips. I didn’t get a look in, but then again, neither did he, we both jealously guarded our plates. It’s not a 5 star, I did think the service was at times a little too hovery, and I was floored when I saw the price of the curry(£20)… I am not 100% convinced that although it was lovely, it was £20 lovely. But, saying that, I’d definitely recommend to others, and hope to return at some point as well.

I have had the pleasure of eating here twice now. It’s a particular favourite for taking guests from out of town to. Fantastic locally Scottish fish, of which the Scottish Haddock is my particular favourite. The service is good, the food is incredible and it’s reasonably priced! It has a nice independent feel to it. I would be very happy to recommend it, and I will be certainly going again!

Best Meal Of My Life!!! Seriously, I’m not even exaggerating. I had this massive seafood platter for $ 40…I was literally in heaven! The plate came towering with seafood, everything a seafood lover could ever dream of. I literally licked the plate dry. On top of a great meal, the restaurant itself is super adorable; Very cozy and personably. I would recommend making a reservation as it was packed the entire night and we kinda got«the eye» for not having a reso our selfs. Anyways, I can’t say enough good things abou this place, if you’re in Edinburgh… GOHERE!

I adore Thistle Street, as it has some great places for dinner and/or drinks. Fishers didn’t quite cut it, for me. It’s a bit of a tourist trap, has an odd layout that really doesn’t make best use of the space available, and the dishes didn’t quite balance, for me. Overall, we said: «Fishers in the City serves pretty good dishes, with good local ingredients, but somehow doesn’t quite hit the mark, for me. I enjoyed the soup, muchly, and the lemon sole was lovely, but a little clearer thought needs applied to the construction of the dishes, to ensure that the best is made from the star ingredients. The business is making its money from tourist trade, and more power to its elbow for that, so my quibbles are less relevant to how they shape their service than those of their international clientele. I think there’s room for improvement, but that improvement needs to ensure that it capitalises upon their current broad appeal.»
