Helen Deans, a hairdressers half way down Leith Walk. Pretty small inside, always very busy at weekends, cheap and cheerful. You won’t get any poncy hairdressers intimidating you here. It is was it is, a basic hair salon at a decent price and friendly staff. I’ve been here twice now and the hairdresser even recognised me on my second visit. The cuts are good and the hairdresser gave me some helpful tips on conditioning my hair. The semi permanent washed out quicker than I’d liked, but it did leave my hair in better condition. Hair washing area is in the back room, toilets down stairs (bit cold down there though), plenty of tea and magazines on offer. As I mentioned it’s always busy at weekends, I had to wait 20 minutes for my turn but luckily I wasn’t in a rush and the hairdresser was extremely apologetic. I like this place because it’s handy, local and reasonably priced. Who needs to pay over the odds just to get a trim and colour?!

I bought a groupon voucher in Feb to have highlights and was extremely pleased with both the result and the super customer service. I have returned since for the same great treatment and have also booked a further appointment in June. I have read the negative reviews and disagree that this business is unfriendly.

I had a Groupon for a massage and facial. I’m wondering if they treat their non-​Groupon customers a bit better than what I got, which felt like a very rushed job (and what’s this coffee and biscuit others speak of?)
Pluses:
+ Excellent leg massage, my best ever
+ Good arm/​hand massage
+ Excellent pressure applied throughout the entire massage
Minuses:
— Hard massage table that gets really uncomfortable after awhile
— Uneven application of massage across the back: more on the left than the right
— Sloppy application of facial creams (not avoiding my lips and eyelids)
— Awkward removal of facial creams (pressing too hard on the eyelids)
— No explanatory commentary throughout (I would’ve appreciated being told I was going to be left alone with cream on my face for 15 minutes or however long that was!)
I’m looking for a good massage spot in Edinburgh for the long term and I was hoping this would be it, but it wasn’t. I appreciated the Groupon deal but won’t be going back.

Beauty therapist does damned good back rubs, knows exactly where the tight points are and PROPERLY works them out! Manicures are excellent too, properly pushes cuticles back to give gorgeous nails. Got coffee AND biscuit!
