There are so many nice pubs in Edinburgh, and I’m always on the lookout to tryout places I’ve never been before. However, sometimes this backfires and I wish I had stuck to somewhere I know delivers each time. This was alright. The restaurant itself is cosy and inviting. The range of food is a bit more varied than your normal pub grub. But we were a bit disappointed by a incinerated burger bun, bland chips, and hectic service. Not sure I’ll be rushing back, even if the pre-theatre menu is pretty good value.

We went for the pre theatre 2 course lunch menu. Food was excellent with great portion sizes. Excellent value for money. Cosy atmosphere and excellent staff. My only complaint would be the expense of a glass of wine. Beware when buying drinks.

Delicious food! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting! We had a party of three and each enjoyed our meals immensely! Highly recommend!

I didn’t eat but if the smells were anything to go by… my god did the fish and chips smell good!!! I had the wild berry mule cocktail which I wasn’t crazy about but it was OK… really quiet when I went in… I mean to be fair it was 4 o clock… and I was drinking vodka… where do I think I am… Moscow!?!

I never had any food there so cannot comment on that but I can certainly recommend the tasty cocktails. Nice little bar, friendly staff.

Really nice little place with friendly servers and cute charming décor. Pints start at 12:30pm but they have lots of good looking food to keep you busy until then :)

Went for lunch, had 2 starters, a main and side between 2 of us as well as a couple of drinks. Initial service(from the owner, we think) was good and friendly but once the boss left the waitress just faced the wall the whole time and was difficult to communicate with… The food sounded great on paper and ened up tasting very Brakes Bros. The stroganoff was not a stroganoff, bread slightly stale with soup, garlic mayo def from a tub, fries ok but not too hot, salsa like a tinned tomato with some green herb added — like crunchy water, very odd!!! We had to move since promised free wifi was not available at our table. That was when we noticed how poorly maintained things were — walls with peeling paint, terribly old fashioned and damaged chairs, chips in the walls, old-fashioned décor peeling off… It was dark and nearly dingy and the service remained lacking pizazz with atmosphere suffering. We won’t rush back unfortunately.

Not too shabby! Headed here for a beer and a burger, on a whim, with a few of the work crowd. We were quickly seated and set up with our pints by the cheerful staff. There was a decent selection of beer and wine, but as a cider drinker I was left with the usual 3 options(Magners, Strongbow and either Kopparberg or Rekorderling, in this case the latter.) Four out of five of us ordered burgers and they were acceptable. I ordered it plain and was a bit surprised to find it didn’t come with sauce, but sauces were provided on the side. I was particularly impressed when one of our party had just missed the kitchen, due to a slow bus, but they agreed to make her a burger anyway! Afterwards I had a Baileys coffee, which they made quite well, and a cheeseboard was ordered for the table. We’d intended to share one portion, just for the taste, but there was enough cheese for several people! It was an awesome cheeseboard! When we were finished a few people who’d been drinking nearby came to join us and the staff found us a bigger table ad another round of drinks. The service all night was polite, cheerful and super helpful, we ended up staying til closing on account of it! This place is definitely worth a look, lovely staff, decent food and nice surroundings!!!

Friendly, welcoming staff. Reasonably priced and very comfortable! The beer«garden» is a very nice little, sheltered decked area… perfect for us smokers :-)

Ok so I’m still a Henricks fan but I do have to say that they need to sort out their table service system… mostly because the guy who helped us most of the night wasn’t around when we wanted to get the bill so we nabbed it from someone else. That’s not a problem in itself, but having paid one member of staff, our original waiter *literally* came running after us accusing us of not paying as we walked out the door. I’m sure this kind of situation is a bit of a one-off but it seems to highlight a need for a clearer system of keeping track of tables, so innocent and unsuspecting customers don’t find themselves in the middle of a scene in the restaurant!

This dining experience was only for the drinks, more specifically the cocktails. Came here with one of my good friends. We both love cocktails. Maybe too much so. Dire for a drink, but not wanting to travel too far, I remembered Henricks. I ordered the mojito, and was not that happy. It tasted watered down, and my friend agreed. My friend ordered the margarita and her’s was not very nice at all. Un-chilled, with wrong mixture to tequila to lime resulted in her hardly touching her drink.(maybe this is a good thing because as a student I’ve yet to let alcohol go to waste…) Our waitress seemed quite nice, it was very quiet which also helped, but all in all we left disappointed and headed to a neighbouring pub where the night was salvaged over G&T. As I was paying they did ask us how our drinks were, and I did tell them we were less than pleased. I appreciate it when restaurants/bars do check to make sure because far too often this can let a bad experience fester into disgust.

What’s this? A roomy yet cosy bar and pub, with a cute hidden beer-garden up the back. An inventive and delicious sounding gastropub menu. Quite a few different wines by the glass. And a two page cocktail menu. And comfy sofa seats. Oh, why hello Henrick’s. Friday 5pm rolled around and the lovely Miss Emily V had chosen Henrick’s for our post-work vino and grub spot. It’s recently come under new management and all the previous reviews and comments of dissatisfied service have definitely been attended to. The staff were absolutely lovely, really friendly and genuine without getting in our way too much(asking if we’d like another drink but not pushing it). It’s really quite roomy inside with a variety of seating areas. We managed to score the comfy seat up the back by the window, which looks out onto a cute wee beer-garden. Might be worthwhile visiting in the half hour of summer we get this year. The menu was really quite interesting for a gastropub. A duck and walnut salad on the starters menu. Cheek of sea bass, red snapper, pork loin with sweet potato, and the more traditional burgers, fish and chips and chilli. It took me quite a while to decide but I opted for the pork loin, whilst Miss V went for the Cajun Chicken Burger(which was actually a whole breast, grilled) served on a wholemeal roll. The food was really quite nice. My pork loin was a little tough and dry, but I know pork is a tricky meat to cook. The salad it came with had a delicious pesto dressing, mango, apple and apple sauce. And sweet potato cubes. Yey! Cube-shaped chips are always so much better than normal chips. And bonus points for the sweet potato. Emily’s burger was finished, and nomed, and was good. Quite a decent portion too. So overall, I was impressed by the food despite a dry pork loin. Now, the good stuff. I shall always remember Henrick’s as the place I tried my first Manhattan. Both Emily and the waitress winced and said«ooo they’re strong» — and they were right — but it was delicious. We tried between us several cocktails. The margarita was made with table rather than rock salt, but other than that they were all absolutely delicious and better than ‘gastropub that also serves cocktails’ cocktails. Not ‘cocktail bar’ standard but much better than the standard fare. Henrick’s really is a Jack of all trades, serving up breakfast and brunch, lunch, interesting dinners, cocktails, lots of wines by the glass, and lots of beers. It’s a great all-rounder for any of the above, and the perfect place to come on a Friday evening after work for sure. It’s got a really nice laid back vibe, and just quite ahhhh lovely. I’m definitely hitting up for brunch, and soon. Nom.

Great food and attentive service. Went for a peroni and ended up having a fantastic burger(with blue cheese). Nice atmosphere as well, feels like one of those places where you only plan to go for«a drink» and end up having, emm, more than one(plus food!)

Decent bar that I’ve drunk in a few times but only just eaten in for the first time this weekend. Food prices and service were good and my fish & chips and my companion’s burger both went down a treat. Left straight after the meal this time but it’s the sort of place you could quite happily make your only stop on a night out as the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. Pints of Stella currently at £3.75.

I had heard a few complaints about this place, people having alot of problems setting served and«teenage» staff sitting around doing nothing. I’m happy to report that both of these statements are bullshit. This is a lovely place, not overly fancy but it does the trick. The choice of spirits is ok, but it more than make up with the Beer selection. The only reason I’m marking it down is because the people who frequent this place are very, very obnoxious. That seems like a general statement but I went back 2 days later and found the same result, people being very loud and in everyone else’s business. Try it on a Monday though, I hear it’s alot better.

Warm and friendly. What else do you want for your local? Compared to the rather intimidating neighbours, it’s a wise choice for your branded booze with branded mixer. It’s not as heavily styled as the bars you get in the inner city but it’s got a lot more character because of this, a lot more people frequent it, in turn becomes more lively and so more people come to join in the atmosphere and so the cycle continues and you’re, once again, really pissed.

This place is a bit out of my way, but I like to make the effort to go there. They have a good range of draft lager, and have some specials and things(watch them go away in September). I’ve not tried the food but what I’ve seen looks good! My only gripe is that some of the staff don’t appear to be very well trained — massive heads on pints, underpouring, and when I was in a few weeks ago the glasswasher was broken and all the pints were rotten and there were no apologies or anythingaside from that I have been in since and it was lovely! Great garden out the back too.

Henricks is a great bar in a great part of town, this is a place I’ve planned to start many a night and ended up staying until close. Good beers and a more than average stock of whisky. Other spirit stock is fairly standard but looks like they’re specialising in Eastern European bottled brews. There’s seating out the back but like most places, it’s become the smoker’s area! They need to get rid of the TVs(or switch them off in the evening). Get in early and get a booth, enjoy!

Henricks is a nice local bar/restaurant in the area of toll cross/bruntsfield. For a quieter night I would recommend it. There is a good selection of food and drinks in a very laid back atmosphere. I have been impressed with the service provided on my visits there. If you live nearby it is a great alternative to venturing in to the heart of the city.
