I was on the hunt for some lunch and this place is near my new work! First time I tried I actually left again, because I didn’t have cash(they don’t take card). Second time, I dared again! There are no prices mentioned, but you kind of know that you won’t pay a massive amount for lunch here. Don’t expect any modern or superhealthy meals here, it really is a typical Leith sandwich bar in that respect! Fried food, baked potatoes, toasties and soup. I went for one of the 5 soups, the chicken and rice. The soup itself was fine, very hot, tasty and filling. I got two slices of bread with it(no butter), and they were a bit stale. The décor, as mentioned, is very old and dirty looking. The kitchen didn’t look very clean either to be honest. As Cressida said as well, it wasn’t terrible, but I would rather go to Greggs(and that’s saying something) than this place again.

It was mid afternoon and I hadn’t eaten that day, so as I scooted along Great Junction Street I had my eyes peeled for nosh. What is this I see? A Gregg’s? Hallelu… Oh hang on, there’s a little indie right opposite. Definitely should head there instead. Also it had a comedy name. Well, in summary, it wasn’t terrible, but I did think maybe I’d have been better off feeding the corporate machine over the road. And nobody wants to regret a toastie. The menu above the counter had no prices — there was an A4 sheet stuck to the door as I entered so if you haven’t chosen by then(I hadn’t) it’s a guessing game. The lady who served me also had trouble totting it up in her head so I still have no idea if I paid the right amount. My cheese and tuna toastie was fine — basic, standard white bread done in a sandwich maker and the tuna was nice and salty. And when I asked for a bottle of orange juice, the lady shook it like a maraca and boogied, and in themselves these details were almost enough to bring this review to three stars, but it was not to be, for I couldn’t help but notice the kitchen was… not the cleanest. If I were at a music festival and stumbled across this place, it’d be perfect for a morning bacon roll. But it can definitely do better. With bright lime green walls it should feel fresh and exciting, but it seemed tired. I hope it can keep going and pull itself into something just a little more fun.
