Star guitar bar is my edinburgh foosball spot. It’s got a nice, super weird table where the men have little legs and you can scoop up the ball if you get lucky. Somebody needs to give them little jackets, they seem a bit chilly. This is a cool spot that’s a bit out out of the way; with a good bar, darts and friendly people. It’s like that buddy of yours that’s super cool but never says anything. Then one day he cracks open and you’re friends forever. If I lived near star guitar bar I’d be friends forever with it.

I have only been here twice, about two years apart. I don’t know why my visits have not been more frequent because both times I went I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Perhaps if it were my local, I would be in once a week. I love the décor, quirky paintings and old board games on the walls… and the bar staff are very friendly. It is a bit dark inside… or atmospheric if you like. They allow you to use vaporisers or e-cigarettes inside, and it’s Dog Friendly. In fact, the friendliest pup ever was making her way around all the patrons getting little pats and ear scratches. No one minded her moseying about, and she was quite happy. I’m more a cat person, but was still charmed by her. There is Free Wifi… which is great as I sat in the upstairs bit and had NO phone signal. So if you are bothered by having signal then don’t sit upstairs.

Tucked away, kitschy and full of folklore it may be, a good place to drink it most certainly is not. While the Star Bar may have some good things going for it(the aforementioned assets, the foosball table, the boardgames, the cheap jukebox) it is found wanting in the most basic of Bar necessities(yes, the simple Bar necessities). The beer is terrible but expensive(£3.80 for a tinny tasting Tennants). There is a poor selection of drinks whether your poison be beers, wines or spirits(and if you’re the designated driver — prepare to have the bank broken…) The seating is sparse and uncomfortable(tired, worn sofas, wonky stools and scratched up tables). The toilets are passably clean but in need of a bit of a refurb to bring them out of the mid 90’s. Actually, it’s pretty much like the place actually is a downtrodden 90’s pub… and not in a good way.

I really like this bar. I love that it’s hidden away so you wouldn’t know about it unless someone tells you about it or you randomly wander past it! It’s a small chilled out bar with a beer garden(that I haven’t had seen yet as I always seem to go in winter time) which Edinburgh doesn’t seem to have many of. It’s nothing fancy, just a relaxed bar that’s unpretentious. I must make another visit to check out the beer garden when that Edinburgh summer finally arrives!

Hidden away and off the beaten track in a residential area the Star Bar is an altogether pleasant surprise. The place has a relaxed atmosphere and appears to attract artists, students and rockers. It has 2 jukeboxes which take turns at playing a variety of tunes, add to this the classic 8bit arcade machine and table football and what is not to like! While a relatively small bar it has some real ale and enough range in the spirits to keep most people happy. There is also a fair sized patio at the back which is ideal for the warmer weather to sit outside and have a chat. All in all I like the place, so when you get bored by George Street, why not take a wander you may be surprised by what you can find fairly close by.

We managed to find this place whilst searching for a beer garden that wasn’t a) stacked full b) covered in shade and I have to say, it was a really nice surprise! The guy who was working behind the bar was a little bit random(he also looked like William H. Macy!) but was friendly enough. The décor is very much rock’n’roll with loads of band posters etc. on the walls. The beer garden is small but well organised and is a total sun trap on a nice day. The drinks are reasonably cheap(£13 for a pitcher of Pimmswhat else do you want on a sunny day?!). I suspect that this is one for locals mainly because it is quite hidden away but it is definitely worth a visitif only for the jukebox/table football!

Like Cheryl C, I passed by this hole in the wall so many times and became increasingly excited about visiting. We finally had a chance to stop in for a pint last Friday after a loooong week at work. We walked in to discover a very bustling place with a reasonably friendly vibe. We were able to snag a small table to the side where we were able to enjoy our pints and do a bit of people watching. I get the impression that this could be a good place to come, especially to enjoy the beer garden on a sunny day, but I think it was a bit more than we were looking for on Friday. I’m going to sound like a total old person but it was just a bit too loud for what we wanted at the time, and I really do think that I built it up a bit too much in my head to properly enjoy it for what it was. I would happily come back here for some sun, but I think it’s just not quite my style for an after work pint.

Cute little bar hidden away in the new town, I was brought here by some locals on a recent visit. There’s a nice atmosphere in this small bar and the beer garden out back looks like it would be great in the summer. However there’s a very limited selection of cider and it was way too hot. We had to leave after 2 because we felt like we were melting.

I made the classic mistake of getting really excited about visiting somewhere I’d passed however many times in the past and been curious about, because I do tend to get overly enthusiastic about anywhere that’s kind of hidden away down a street, and seems exclusive to people in the know. That much is true about Star Bar, because you have to wander pretty deep into the new town to find it. There’s definitely not a chance of just stumbling upon the bar randomly if you’re roaming the main hostelries on George Street and surrounding roads. The pub/bar looks like a very inviting little place indeed from the outside, kind of like a twinkling golden light in a sea of residential darkness, the north star which leads the way to boozing goodness and all that jazz. It is pretty cool inside, with its green padded seating and upper level feeling a bit like someone’s sprawling living room. I was in here on a Friday night, and the whole experience was somewhat like being at someone’s house party, a vibe I quite like because it felt very chilled, and like you could perch anywhere, and the high student population in here added to the very relaxed drinking feel too. I did enjoy having a few in Star Bar, and there wasn’t anything present to offend me whatsoever, I think I just got my expectation levels a bit overexcited for my first visit. I think a return evaluation is needed, which could perhaps involve a visit to the beer garden if the weather continues to be sunny, or a trip to see one of the live acts that play here.

It’s a really relaxed kind of place and they have a wide selection of crisps(which is very important), dim lights and old oak tables which are used for a worktop when you’re making flowers out of napkins or beermat tower(I don’t think barstaff appreciate things like this so much). It’s a kind of place you can go down to in your tracksuit and not be judged(even if you are wearing cantabury’s, uggs and a messy ponytail on the top of your head, cascading down your boyfriend’s rugby top. shudder) Not forgetting the table football, where have you been table football?!

Big disappointment after hearing so much about it, I popped in for a pint on a quiet Sunday afternoon and found the pub lacking atmosphere. Maybe I just went in on a bad day, but from what I saw I’ll leave it off my list of pubs to revisit.

This is a great wee pub to go to, especially at lunchtime, as it is at the back of my work. There is a wee beer garden also, which is great to sit out in great weather. They have snacks and its a great Friday afternoon drinking place to go after work.

they have foozball! and there is always a queue to play. the bar itself is quite tiny so there is a fairly limited amount of choice, but the staff were attentive and friendlymostly. the last evening we went there were a number of worse for wear customers, one of whom decided he knew our friends and made a bit of a nuisance of himself until we eventually had to leave to get rid of would have been nice if the bar staff had had time to notice our predicament, or at the very least, stopped serving him, but they were quite busy…

Hidden away in Dublin Mews in the new town, this is a great bar. A bar that is great in summer with the beer garden out the back being perfect for a lazy afternoon drinking. They serve food here also, so you don’t even need to move from the beer garden if you feel peckish. There is table football and a well stocked jukebox which will cater for all tastes in music. If you have never been here before, check out the website and find your way here!

I’d never have known about this place if one of my friends didnt live round the corner, what a find!, I’m a bit reluctant to spread the word. It’s a fab wee local with lots of character. It gets really busy after work on weekdays with all the local ofifces spilling into it but has a friendly and fun atmosphere. It has a jukebox(I havent seen one in ages and ages!) and a stack of boardgames and books. The Star Bar wouldnt feel out of place as the only pub in a small town as it has that community feel to it. I love it!

The Star Bar’s not the sort of place you’d really come across unless you lived in the area or knew someone who does. But that to me is a definate plus-point, and i suppose i half come under both categories. The lovely garden out the back is a must-see, and they have some nice whiskeys and different interesting vodkas, even if there aren’t all that many tables inside. You might even find there’s some live music on when you go — there’s always a piano too, if you can remember those chopsticks. And its got a table football table, for those who’ve either had one too many, or err on the competitive side of life… the teams are the Argentine classics Boca-River, for those that care about these sort of things. Either way, if you happen to be in the area i’d say its worth popping in, even just for a change from your usual(whatever that might be).

the Star Bar is a place visited by many hip young things. It hasn’t got the most extensive beer list– but it does have a warm atmosphere. The point of the bar, as far as I can ascertain, is to have a few drinks before heading out to another club– like Subway, or Club Ego. Its never raucous– though it does indeed get busy. Its more for the just-graduated from university types than students– or so it seems. The jukebox is a nice addition and the drinks, though not cheap, are not expensive either.

Star Bar is one of those lovely places you feel lucky to have found. Its small and relaxed with a nice beer garden out the back. It has a foosball table and a multitude of interesting things on the wall. Its the ideal place to go for a drink and have a good chat where you don’t have to shout over the music. 5 stars for Star Bar!

Tucked in one of the New Town’s many Mews, the Star Bar is a little pub with a lovely atmosphere, complete with beer garden out the back. Good place to catch up with friends after work and drink long vodkas.
