The Crown

This place is short of awesome, but it’s a so far dependable pub with decent food (though they can apparently run out of some dishes; last visit our son’s first three choices were all out) and a few interesting ales on tap. Last time we were there was during an England international rugby match, so the place was even noisier than usual. A mixed crowd; of course a fair number of students, but also plenty of older people like me. We’ll have reasons to visit Egham regularly for some time; I expect to be back here.

Great atmosphere! Inside and out. Unfortunately if it gets busy (which it probably will) you have to que up at the bar and order what you want. The bar can get deep, so this detracts for people who would like to sit and enjoy a meal. Service is friendly, food was fair. We had bangers and mash with an onion gravy which was nice but you can skip the breaded scampi and chips. Couldn’t taste the shrimp at all with how tiny they were and the thick breading.

I’m a student in the area and my choice of housing for next year was definitely swayed by the fact that this pub will be a few minutes walk away.
The food here is incredible. The first time I visited I was expecting just your bog-​standard pub menu, but I was amazed at the variety and even more so at the taste. The burgers are absolutely incredible. There is a wide range of drinks available and some great beers.
The second time I went in for just dessert and decided to order drinks from the cocktail menu. The staff were obviously a little taken aback at having to make them given they were rarely ordered but once we had them in our hands we couldn’t be happier. Delicious.
The staff are really accommodating and the punters are range in age and background, but all very friendly. It’s refreshing to get off campus and see some non-​students for once.
I expect to end up very poor next year with this little beauty round the corner.

Had a bacon sandwich and an ale here with my Dad when he was in London on business. The bacon was the perfect complement to the brew — perfectly cooked and briney. This is a very special place. Great accommodations and hospitality. Worth the train ride from London.

Large classic english pub with a good mix of clientele from students to long term regulars seem to get on harmoniously relying on the beer, pool, darts and the atmosphere rather than the TV.
