Poundland is one shop that I have to look in each time I go shopping just in case! As everything is a £1(although sometimes they have a sale on and you can get 2 things for £1) you can’t go wrong. Admittedly there is some cheap tat but you just use your own judgement and sort through. There are a lot of branded goods that are well worth buying, but be realistic there are some things that you can buy cheaper elsewhere. All those £1s in your basket do add up at the till. Poundland is excellent for seasonal goods, it is always good for crafting and if you use your imagination you can’t go wrong. Last Christmas I bought small felted sacks which I used for cushion covers which looked absolutely brilliant. There are always long queues at the tills, there are always lots of people in the shop — but this does tell you one thing — a lot of people buy in there. What with the credit crunch, I think a lot more people will loose their opinions of shops like Poundland and shop in there as well. There are a lot more shops like this and we could do with a few more down here in the Westcountry.

Generally very cheap(hence the name!) but not always worth it. Some items I’ve bought there have been a false economy(washing up liquid in particular — I had to use about quarter of the bottle to get any suds!) but it’s great for getting cheap books that stop off there en route to the pulping plant. I’ve been stocking up on wicker washing baskets with a view to using them for Christmas hampers! The staff here range from cheerful but incompetent to downright surly, and the music is maddeningly awful and too loud. Quite often this store is massively hot and over-crowded, and the queues can be really long. At least they’ve started accepting payment by card!

This is pretty much like any other branch of Poundland; busy, messy but worth the visit. It is larger than most poundlands that I have been in offering a wide range of stock. The queues often look quite horrid but they do move quickly so aren’t that bad. Some of the stock is a real bargin and some of it is best avoided. Worth a visit to hunt out those bargins in this credit crunch.

It’s always worth checking out poundland for bargains– they’re particularly good for toiletries, and blank CDS– and occasionally other technology type things like memory cards but a lot of things in there aren’t such good value. You can be lulled into a false sense of security occasionally! The staff are also extremely unhelpful, which is very offputting, and this branch is sometimes extremely overpacked, so beware, because it can get stressful. It’s worth ducking in for a quick scout around sometimes though.

You can usually get lots of bargains in Exeter’s poundland(indeed, everything is A POUND!) but make sure what you are buying isn’t cheaper somewhere else! Just because it’s a pound, doesn’t mean it’s a bargain. This store is quite large and has a huge range of stuff. The downfall is at the tills as there is no queuing area and if the queues are more than a few people deep, you can’t get through. Also, on my visit today the till took AGES to spit out my receipt!

Although not the best presented shop in Exeter high street, Poundland has a wide range of stock. Displays are scruffy but it’s well worth browsing on the off chance of finding a bargain. Staff aren’t particularly friendly or helpful, but it is cheap!

On the up side — everything is a pound. You really have very little to lose! This includes some brand name toiletries, season goods like Christmas wrapping paper and garden bulbs, children’s toys and multi-packs of crisps, etc etc. On the negative side, the staff are clearly underpaid, under motivated and under trained — how else to explain how unhelpful and sullen many of them are? Also at busy times the queues don’t appear to move at all — you need to be very patient — but if you are you can certainly bag some bargains!

everything for a pound !!! in this economical climate you cant go wrong. a large shop at the start of sidwell street near the bus station for extra convenience they stock all sorts of things, from toiletries to cleaning products, to kitchen ware, toys, stationery and food. this is my first port of call when i get into town, i look here before i go anywhere else as the stock is always changing and you never know what they may have. i buy all my brand name toiletries here at a fraction of the normal price, usually as they are packaged in export labels. i also swear by this shop for stationery items. and they do great deal on packs of crisps biscuits juice etc for kids packed lunches. th eshop is large but it is also busy and the checkouts arent the quickest so be prepared to wait.
