The Arena

Average to poor night out. Over crowded and not my sort of music on the few occasions I’ve been (twice). Not sure if it’s improved any but judging by the other comments it’s still the same.

It’s ok for what it is, not my idea of a great night out. typical nightclub but the staff are quite friendly, atmosphere not that great though, and a bit tense with a lot of fights the night I was there.

El Arena (pronunciado entre los ingleses como ‘Arina’) es el pub/​discoteca al que más vamos con diferencia. Está un poco retirado del centro de la ciudad pero está más cerca de la universidad que el resto de las discotecas de Exeter.
Hay que pagar entrada si se llega más tarde de las 11pm, sin embargo hay días en los que hay que pagarla de todas formas (no suele costar más de 3 ó 4 libras como mucho).
Cada noche hay algún tema, alguna fiesta o algún evento, por lo que es el sitio perfecto para ir durante toda la semana. Los días en los que se llena más suelen ser los jueves, el día por excelencia y los viernes (más que nada porque si te quedas hasta que cierren los jueves te dan entrada gratis para el viernes con una bebida gratis!).
Los precios de las bebidas están bastante bien, hay días en los que los combinados no llegan a las 2 libras y las pintas de cerveza están a 1.35 libras!
Tiene dos plantas, en la de arriba están los baños, pero en la de abajo tenemos una pista enorme en el centro donde está la mesa del Dj y la pantalla gigante. Hay unas tres barras, pero siempre están todas igual de llenas.
La música es bastante variada durante la semana, pero en los días de más afluencia suele ser más disco, electrónica, pop y remixes. Perfecto para bailar hasta que te duelan los pies!
Lo único malo que tiene es que la moqueta del suelo despide un olor bastante significativo (huele como a calcetín sudado =S) Sin embargo, lo que más nos gusta es que siempre te encuentras con gente que conoces, que los precios están bastante bien y que los viernes te invitan a una copa! =)

This is pretty standard ‘small town’ nightclub — There is one room, with three bars, and a small upstairs — which basically holds the toilets and a few tables.
The music is mainly cheesy chart pop — which is fine — exaclty what you expect and demand from this type of nightclub.
The dance floor is a decent size in comparison to the total area of the club — and is fairly well controlled — no drinks can be taken onto the floor.
Queues for the bar aren’t bad. The prices are reasonable and the range of drinks ok. They do have a ‘cocktail bar’ which serves up sugar syrup and vodka concoctions — definately not cocktails — but decent enough for the bargain prices (£1 — £3).
The Areana is mainly packed out with students on weeknights, and is busy on the weekend with a more mainstream crowd.
Fairly standard nightclub — go in a good mood, not expecting much, and you should have a good night

Arena is another Exeter sweat pit, but the DJs play requests and the staff are really friendly. There are some seats round the edge and tables near the dance floor. Its a good place to go for student night (Tues) and then the weekend for a more town orientated night. They are also very tolerant of fancy dress (!)
