Lovely dinner, although service a bit ‘metered’ at times. Very nice selections and very good starters.

Excellent food and friendly service. Prices are also reasonable. Very authentic Nepalese dishes, which are flavorful with good variety. Do make reservations or come early. Also, the Nepalese beer is excellent. A special thanks to the owner for accommodating a special request from an out of town guest.

Who has ever heard of Nepalese food? YES… I knew there was the country of Nepal(it’s just east of India for you geographically challenged folks!), but I had never heard of a restaurant specializing in Nepalese food. Well, for you crazy psychos out there who have always dreamed of trying Nepalese food but never have… Gurkha Palace is your place! On the Saturday night of my visit, GP was quite busy. The restaurant staff is super friendly, helpful with menu advice, and let us stay even after closing! The beauty of the menu is that you can never mess up the name of the dish because every dish has a name AND a number… brilliant! You could either say, «Excuse me, I would like Kinama ok jhol(fermented bean soup… ehhh, yum?)» or you could say…“give me #22.” I don’t know about you, but I barely passed primary school and I failed my foreign language classes, so I prefer numbers. On to the food! I had dish #50 and I bet you are wondering the name of the dish… not a clue! All I know is that it was made with 18 or 20 or 200 different types of peppers. Now, the waiter warned me that this dish was«very hot,» but noooooooooo… I knew better. The dish was delicious for about 5 minutes, but then the hotness sneaks up on you like a thug in Whitechapel and punches you in the mouth. Sweat droplets begin to gather on the forehead, face turns red, eyes begin to water, nose becomes runny… honestly, it gets a little embarrassing. All that to say, I would definitely go to GP again. Dishes are around £7 a piece and service is good. I even might might order the #50. Go check out GP and let me know your favorite number!

Several people had recommended Gurkha Palace, and we were not disappointed. Food was interesting — similar to Indian but unique in its own way. Service was smiley and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the overall experience.

This place is located just down from the train station and is well worth visiting if you would like to sample Nepalese food. Most of the dishes are pretty similar to northern Indian but the are dumplings and noodles on the menu as well. Alas, I do not believe the dumplings were made fresh to order. I think they had been frozen and reheated. This place is worth sampling but I’ve had better.

Ate here with a friend last week. Staff very friendly, service very good, food delicious, price not too bad either. A good meal. It is only yards from the Falcon Hotel, and The Swan pub just across the road is good for a beer before or after.

Thanks Allen D. for your review. We had a great meal — the food, the service(with a smile!) and surroundings. Super-busy and for good reason. V. glad we booked.

Went there for a work do. Poppadums were stale. They use lamb from shoulder cuts which isn’t nice as it has more marbleing(fat). They should use Leg cuts. Tried a recommended dish but it wasn’t great.

Food is really good. Five of us went there on a Monday night, and it was fairly packed(mostly with business people and parties), so it’s worth booking ahead. Our three course meal and a couple of beers came to £80. As for the food, I went for the sizzling lamb which was a bit dry, but everyone else’s main was very good — especially the masala which was sweet and creamy!!! I also had the palace rice which is very(VERY) aromatic! — make sure you pick out all the spices before you start eating into it!!! Service is very good — fast, attentive and efficient, but don’t expect a smile!

My favourite local restaurant and easily the best Nepalese restaurant in the area. Excellent service and food and atmosphere and great selection for veggies such as myself.

The Gurkhas are a bunch of Nepalese and Northern Indian warriors, known for being basically bad-asses, and the kind of guys you want on your side when the fire gets hot and heavy. If names mean anything, apparently they cook like they fight. Gurkha Palace rocks. In a world of bland slop that makes up the southern England Indian food landscape, the Gurkhas have outshone the competition, and I’ve finally found Indian food that can really satisfy that monkey on my back that says on a daily basis, «not spicy enough!»

I’ve eaten here many times and it’s always been great. Friendly service, good Nepalese beers, lovely food and reasonable prices. The menu is quite unusual, but definitely in a good way :) Popular with locals and does get busy at the weekend — booking recommended.

This is one of the best Nepalese restaurants of its kind. An extensive menu full of unusual dishes. Service by waiters in uniform. May be worth booking in advance or you may be seated in the side room or upstairs. The Sunday buffet could stop you having a Sunday roast ever again and is good value at £7.95 for as much as you can eat.
