A blast from the past really. Run by a lovely couple, Luigi(no really) and Sue, both friendly and dedicated to what they do. Great, honest Italian food, with cracking specials and a wine lover’s wine list, this is THE place for a special night out. It’s not what you would call a budget restaurant, but if you have had nasty rubbery pasta from ghastly chains then it’s time to you tasted the real Italian stuff here. In the winter there is a log fire burning in the grate and the whole ambience is both relaxed and at the same time is a very fine dining experience. The whole thing with a decent wine will set you back around 80 quid for three courses each, so not the cheapest choice on the block, but you will have had a great evening in one of the prettiest towns in England. I ate here the other evening and was once again really impressed with the standard of food and the way you are made to feel here. A special place.

Without doubt the best Italian restaurant for miles around, in my opinion. Not the cheapest by a long chalk, but in this case quality really is everything and you get what you pay for. The restaurant is situated down Vicarage Street, a short stroll up from the town centre. If it looks like someone’s house that’s because it is. The former double-fronted house was converted some decades back and now it’s the exclusive and very delightful restaurant, where the owner lives and cooks personally. You can enjoy a drink in the small relaxing bar and mull over the menu choices, and then proceed to your table in the small exclusive dining room, where you are treated like one of the family. In summer they have alittle terrace for al-fresco dining, which is great if it’s warm enough. A three-course meal will set you back around 25 quid, depending on what you order, with wine and drinks on top. That be expensive for the loikes of us down in Zummerzet moi luvver, but probably very comparable to big-city prices. The sort of place you go to for a soecial treat, special occasion — or to impress a date.(Heck, I can always be impressed by anyone that wants to take me there!!). My favourite main meal is the very simple Spaghetti Aglio Olio peperoncino. A classical Italian favourite of spaghetti tossed in hot olive oil with garlic, chilli and flat leaf — washed down with a large glass(or two!) of Valpolicella, it’s absolute heaven. And don’t get me started on the dessert trolley best tiramisu I’ve ever tasted! Note — they only take bookings by phone due to the fact that’s it’s a small restaurant and they’re very popular, so to avoid disappointment be sure to book in advance.
