The Hillfoot doesn’t look much from the outside, lets say it wouldn’t instantly attract you to it. However, I have to say I was genuinely surprised when I walked inside — it’s clean, smart, smells slightly of state beer but what do you expect from a pub? I went along with my family on a Sunday afternoon, it was quite busy with other families grabbing a roast dinner, and a few other individuals dotted around the bar. I ordered the steak and chips which was excellent value, at around £3.50 for the meal. My younger brother can be quite picky with food but the staff were accommodating by making him a strange combination of chicken nuggets, beans and garlic bread! Overall I’d say, it is much more than you would expect from the outside, but still not the best pub in the area.

Sat in the Hillfoot, I realised I had two options. I could either leisurely drink my pint in thirty-five minutes before catching my bus OR I could frantically down my pint in five minutes and catch an earlier bus. I chose the latter. This gives some indication how much of the pub’s atmosphere I wanted osmosing into my skin. It’s not that the place is particularly awful, it’s just not that particularly special either. Noisy and poorly lit, even on a Saturday afternoon, the family eatery is fair game for a cheap lunch, but I wouldn’t want to stay here longer than six minutes. Seven, tops.
