This review is for a home delivered takeaway. I was really dissapointed in the food I ordered from Ashoka West End. I got mixed pakora(chicken, mushroom and vegetable), mushroom pilau and a creamy jalfrezi curry with chicken. The pakora was really bland. The chicken and mushroom seemed to have no spice at all and were just coated in batter. I knew the curry would be mild but it was basically a creamy yellow sauce with little flavour. The rice had some bits of mushroom in it but was very dry. On the plus side? Well, the portions were HUGE. So one curry dish and one portion of rice would be enough for two if you ordered some side dishes. It only took 20 minutes for my order to arrive at my door. I live close by but I wouldn’t have thought the food could be made so quickly! The prices are about average for takeaway in this area. The food has put me off going to the Ashoka which is a shame. I’ve heard good things about it and I love Indian food but there are so many options in Glasgow I don’t think I’ll be visiting any time soon.

What better way to round up the weekend than with yet another big tasty dinner. After driving around the West End in need of some desperate inspiration for dinner my boyfriend and I decided we were in need of a curry, and in a hurry. In this part of the West End there is a lot of choice with Indian restaurants however we had heard a lot of good reviews on his one, plus we saw a good deal, £10.95 per person, for a very hearty two course dinner. On the whole, this place is proper wee and that’s why it never got the full 5 stars. I could have easily sneaked a bit of poppadom off our next door neighbour’s table without them even noticing, however the food and service was so good I really can’t find any other fault. After we ordered, our lovely waitress brought us over a ‘Chef’s Treat’! A wee mini tapas style plate of fresh chicken kebab bites sent over by the chef for us to enjoy before our starters. Obviously our hangovers were loving this chat, but it was such a nice little extra that we weren’t expecting that eased us into our surroundings, we also saw the delight on the other diner’s faces when they were presented with the same gesture. I went for something different to start with, the fish Amritsari, which was so light and full of flavour I could have eaten it all night, including the cucumber raita… So good… For mains we shared two different but safe choice chicken curries which came with a big bowl of fluffy rice and a generous side of freshly baked nan. It was perfect. So fresh and full of flavour we left feeling totally satisfied. If you’re after a robust dinner and don’t mind too much claustrophobia with your meal, then without a doubt head to Ashoka! We will definitely be back, in fact on the way home we were even Googling their home delivery area’s to see if we could make the boundary. Thanks again Ashoka!

While this location is a wee bit out of my way, I got a fab deal on LivingSocial and I decided to use it for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. I was quite enthusiastic about trying this restaurant, as I’ve heard many a remark complimenting the fantastic food and superb service. The deal entitled us to a Chef’s Platter to start, a main each with rice and naan bread to share — there were options to upgrade to the Tandoori Platter, or upgrade the rice and naan for extra pennies, but that really wasn’t necessary. There was a lot of food! When we turned up for our reservation, we were kindly shown to our seats quickly and our drinks orders were taken. While we waited for the food, we were given a wee taster of something made of potato I think, which was really nice. I just wish I could remember what it was called! The Chef’s Platter contained, among other things, chicken chaat, chicken pakora, veg pakora, mushroom pakora, onion bhaji, and the most enormous samosa you’ve ever seen! Our mains hadn’t come out yet and already we were filling up! Tasty, tasty! For our mains, we’d both chosen the chicken bhuna(instead of being clever and choosing two different dishes and sharing — hindsight is 20:20), which was super duper tasty! There was plenty of rice and a large, lovely, warm, buttery naan to go with it, so I dread to think what state of stuffed we’d have been in had we upgraded. It was all very yum. Worth every penny. Drop on by, oh spice-loving lovelies.

Had a takeaway from here. When it arrived the starter and main were lukewarm. King prawns in my bhuna seem like they had mashed! Disappointed.

Went here instead of our usual Ashoka on Ashton Lane thanks to a cracking 5pm deal. First things first this place is TINY!!! This place could hold 25 at a push. Secondly, it is extremely overstaffed. Whilst we ate there was a host, 3 – 4 wait staff knocking about and someone else who brought the food to your table. This did become a bit odd. There were too many staff on so they congregated around the bar, which was next to where we were eating, and as there were so few customers you started to feel a bit conspicuous. The staff were insanely efficient, as they had so little to do! However aside from there being more staff than customers at times Ashoka is exactly how you expect. Great food with polite and efficient service. Would I walk to this one over Ashton Lane? If they have another deal on you bet your Pakora I would!

Ashoka West End is yet another great curry house in Glasgow’s west end. They offer a fairly standard selection of food for those who aren’t curry connoisseurs such as chicken tikka masala, chips, curry sauce, mixed starter dishes etc. But best of all is their extensive selection of curries and Tandoori dishes which range in price form £8-£13. I haven’t eaten in here before always opted for a carry out but have walked past it many a time and it is very popular even throughout the week. Their deliveries are done quickly, their menu is very good and I have always enjoyed my food from, there really isn’t anything to fault here. Good job Ashoka.

I used to live round the corner from here, and boy, was that handy! My flatmate and I became such regulars it got to the point where we’d just say our name down the phone, and they knew what we were ordering. Classic. Also, living so close/being a frequent customer meant that we got coupons/leaflets delivered to our door, some of which entitled us to a 1p curry — yes please! — or other equally tasty delights. I like the Ashoka chain — the service is always fast and efficient — I’ve never actually heard anything bad about them, to be honest, and the food is mighty tasty — Chicken Tikka Masala and a bit of naan bread goes down quite well(and sometimes, free poppadoms, if you order enough!), I find.

Ashoka West end is a familiar landmark which has become a Spicy institution for locals and visitors alike. I like the Ashoka chain and frequented this restaurant frequently. It was convenient to my work in the West End and I would switch between this Ashoka and the Ashton Lane location. The West End is much better for groups than the Ashton Lane location due to the larger size of the restaurant. It offers a good range of mains and starters all at a reasonable price. Service is the standard fast Ashoka fashion and they handle the lunch crowd quite well. Evening dining here is an excellent idea since you are placed well within the city to continue to several nearby pubs and clubs.

I really liked this restaurant. The food is top notch. I can highly recommend the vegetable pakora and I had a fantastic lamb rogan josh. It can often be very busy, especially at the weekends, so it is a good idea to book a table. The staff and very friendly and helpful and will happily recommend a dish to suit you. They are also happy to tailor specific dishes to suit for you ie by making more or less spicy. The Ashoka also offers a great take away range, and offers loyalty card discounts for regular customers. They will also deliver.
