The big strength of Bar Ten is that it’s got a lot of ok qualities and few bad ones. That all adds up to a bar that is never too noisy or busy, has a reasonable range of drinks, isn’t too pricey nor too cheap. It’s perfectly placed, just off Buchanan Street in Mitchell Lane, for a quiet getaway and I’ve hardly ever struggled to get a seat. I’ve never eaten in there, so can’t comment but for me this is a bar that doesn’t try too hard and ends up being just right.

I’ve got a bit of a habit of wanting to take myself out somewhere for a quiet read and perhaps a glass of wine — and this is what brought me to Bar Ten for this visit on a busy Glasgow day: post-Christmas sales = Glasgow city centre hell! It’s quite a small place, with dim but cosy lighting and a nice relaxed feel, church candles on the tables making the lighting nice and ambient… I’m a sucker for a candle! Having parked myself in a wee corner, book in hand and wine ordered I proceeded to stay for a couple of hours, alternating between reading and people watching. It’s not the glitziest places, but also not one of the most expensive. Under £5 for a large glass of house red is pretty acceptable, and the service was quick and friendly. It started to get pretty full later into the afternoon but the service remained pretty good and I was able to enjoy my read in peace. Bar Ten is a bit of a safe option; never too busy, slightly off Buchanan Street with friendly staff and I’ll definitely go again when I fancy a quiet read.

I remember visiting Bar 10 quite a few years back when I’d only just arrived in Glasgow. I was getting my haircut at DLC next door thought it was a good excuse to re-visit it. I was warmly greeted and told I could pretty much sit wherever I liked, and looked over the menu. There’s sandwiches, baked potatoes and a few main dishes — nothing overly exciting, pretty standard bar kind of food. I ordered the beef lasagne and a side of curly fries. It’s a pretty casual kind of place — a relaxed vibe and super friendly, happy staff. My food took around 15 minutes to arrive and I was a little worried from the presentation about how it would taste(check out the photo if you want to see what I mean). Smothered in cheese with a side of bland looking garlic bread I really didn’t expect too much and it was pretty average tasting as well. There was nothing technically wrong with it but I wouldn’t order it again. All the component parts of lasagne were there, it just didn’t impress in any way. Same goes for the garlic bread and curly fries — passable, nothing specific to complain about but nothing I’d want to repeat. All up my meal(inc a pint of orange and lemonade) was £10. I’ve definitely eaten a lot better for that price so left feeling pretty unimpressed. The reason that I’ve gone for 3 stars is the staff who were so warm and friendly that I left with a smile on my fact, even though the food was pretty dire. I’d return here for drinks only.

Bar Ten? Bar 10? Who knows? It’s not important, in any case. What is important is the quality. Off the beaten track of Buchanan Street, directly opposite The Lighthouse and near Bar Soba, it would be easy to write off Bar 10(that’s what I’m calling it) as the lesser light of Mitchell Lane. Easy, perhaps, but not fair at all. When you enter, you’re greeted with functional but comfortable seats and tables, and a friendly greeting from the staff. It also strikes me that it hasn’t changed much since I was here last, almost 10 years ago. No bad thing — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. There’s a wide range of beers on tap — I must admit I didn’t study them too hard, as I’m in the middle of a fund-raising Dry January( if you read this in January, folks!) so didn’t want to torture myself too much. I had a coke. It arrived in a can, with a glass, slice of lemon and ice. It tasted like coke. Not like delicious, lovely, booze, but that’s my own issue. Foodwise, myself and the ever suffering Wendy ordered — chicken enchilada for me, chilli and rice for the lady — and the food arrived lovely and warm, and in quick time. The presentation(pretentious? Moi?) was excellent — my rice was sprinkled with some pepper and onions, and the chilli was served with the rice in a nice round arrangement! Smashing! Taste wise, it was great. Just the right portion size for a lunch, and I even managed to eat some of the salad, a big deal for an anti-vegetarian like myself. With the staff helpful, but not intrusive, it all adds up to a fine and pleasant lunchtime experience — and not too expensive for this part of the city centre. I shall return to drink the booze!

Bar 10 is definitely a decent bar to go to for a couple of beers. Sometimes forgotten due to its location, but always remembered when I am in that area and in need of an escape from shopping hell. Seems to always have a cool laid back crowd and they do a good variety of bottled beers. Every thing from Czech pilzner to french tequila beer to William Bros options. The location is good, hidden away on Mitchell lane, it is a nice wee haven within an area not known for good bars. It has more of a merchant city bar feel to it if that makes sense. Anyway, I’m not sure there is anything amazing enough about that would make you would stay in it for ten pints, but for a couple it is a good spot.

Bar Ten is tucked away in Glasgow’s Mitchell Lane and is directly across from The Lighthouse. It’s kind of off the beaten track but that’s why I like it. I used to come here on my lunch breaks back when I worked in town where I would sit and slurp away on their delightful hot chocolate and accompanying caramel biscuit! There’s a big rack of newspapers and magazines on the wall as you enter through the rather heavy front door(I’m small and weak you see) which is prefect for those who like to ignore what’s going on around you(me). Saying that though, it’s worth taking your nose out the paper for a peek at the relaxed surroundings and a good stare out the ceiling to floor windows. This is perfect for me you see, as I’m a professional starer. Moving on to the food… It fills a gap nicely and the beer goes down tremendously well. My favourite is the massive baked tatties. The staff are cool and don’t harass you when your mouth is packed with potato and beans, which is a bonus. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the seats… bit hard and they make an awful racket when you’re trying to nudge your chair closer to the table! Not a massive issue but I;m just making you aware in case you have sensitive hearing! Go there.

Lots of things to like about this place and a couple to love. So in ascending order… I like that it’s tucked away from the general grazing and watering pastures of the city centre. It means the crowd in here is normally pretty chilled. I like that it serves Duvel in Duvel glasses and that you can drink it in a decent space without the bling of many city centre pubs. I really like the staff’s taste in music, they know their tunes. I’m enamoured with the food, good solid stuff and not too pricey. I love the fact you can order Leffe by the pint — though I’m sure this would incur a disdainful shake of the head from their master brewer. Finally, I love that it’s a pub that appreciates its boundaries. It doesn’t try to be all things to all people and does most things rather well.

The Ben Kelly(of Hacienda fame) designed Bar Ten is famous for being Glasgow’s original style bar and this still holds true today. There is still a refreshingly funky vibe about the place but it is still really friendly too. We visited at lunch time and the food was really good. Bar Ten has just been voted one of the top 10 bars to visit in Europe and from this visit I can see why. I’ll definitely be back to try it out at night time. I think this will soon be my new local!

I have used Bar 10 as a convenient way to get out of the shopping maelstrom that is Buchanan street and grab a beverage and time to slow down. A quirky little place across the Lighthouse, it has its own charm. Normally, I could find issues with the patrons and go on about how I hate irreverent hipsters. But this place is never a long stop and it offers what I need. I could feel different if I spent a long time in here, but I never feel like this is a place to spend an evening. Some food(I occasionally grab a nibble here) and some decent draught beers, you could do a lot worse. Sufficiently hidden from the main streets, not a lot of tourists end up in here which I put down as a bonus.

You’re walking down amongst the hustle and bustle of Buchanan street, and a wee A-frame catches your eye, luring you down a quiet, bright alleyway. What’s this? A bottle of wine for £8.50 during the week? £2 bottles of Red Stripe beer? Soup and crusty bread fo £3.50? I’m in! Despite being in an alleyway, the big windows make it bright and airy. And despite the big windows, the wall length radiator keeps people warm and toasty once they’re inside. As others have mentioned, the sensibility here is youthful and modern, but not in such a way as to make the less young and/or modern feel unwelcome. In the afternoons there are regularly middle-aged ladies lunching and taking advantage of the £8.50 wine bottle special. People sit and read, gaggles of giggling girls come in festooned with bags of purchases, solemn young men sit at the bar and contemplatively sip their obscure beers. There’s room for all ilks here, both literally(plenty of seating) and figuratively.

Something about Mitchell Lane is really welcoming, it has that indefinable Merchant City feel. Bar 10 is directly across from The Lighthouse and Bar Soba. Very trendy and aimed at the mid-20s crowd, it has its niche well-defined, catered to, and is therefore bang on the money. Something about it feels like an escape, probably since you round the corner from the mile-long street of chain stores that is Buchanan St and into these welcoming surroundings. It’s quite small and can be fairly busy, but at the same time is deceptively spacious. They host a pub quiz which I hear is a good time, and the food is great for the money. I’ve tried a couple of pasta dishes, which certainly wouldn’t go a miss, but I especially love the chicken burritos. A far cry from authentic but tasty nonetheless! Overall, Bar 10 has a certain energy about it that makes it laid-back and welcoming, yet a bit more retro and exciting than your typical pub. Well worth a visit.

I’ve been here a few times now and highly rate it. Although it’s aimed at a 20 something crowd it somehow manages to retain a proper pub feel, and has a nice kind of effortless atmosphere about it that’s refreshing in a city centre dominated by faceless chains and flatpack style bars. We were in on Reggae Reggae Tuesday, which despite showcasing da hottest riddims from Kingston was disappointingly quiet but you can’t argue with two Red Stripes for four pound. It’s far busier nearer the weekend so you might struggle for a seat.

Tucked away in Mitchell Lane, this relaxed little bar is super-handy whilst avoiding the nearby hustle and bustle. Expecting not to find a seat, my boyfriend and I popped in for an after-work pre-cinema bite to eat and luckily nabbed a wee table for two at the back. We both ordered the chicken burritos from their mediterranean menu and were ultra impressed given the fact that they weren’t too expensive(£6.95). Served up on a bed of rice, they were scrumptiously tangy and the salad(with tasty dressing) and tortilla chips were the perfect accompaniments. The drinks were fairly expensive(around £3 each) but there was an offer on for a bottle of house wine for £7.50 which we didn’t notice until we ordered. The girl who served us was chilled out and friendly but efficient which neatly sums up our experience there.

This small bar/café located right across the entrance of the Lighthouse museum is a really great place to hang out! Nice music, nice choice of beers and cocktails, all served in some sort of slightly westendy intellectual atmosphere. Quirkylicious!

Really nice bar in the centre of town to meet friends for a few drinks. Drinks deals midweek are pretty good, we got a bottle of wine for £6.95. Good music and friendly crowd make this bar well worth a visit.

Bar 10 is a Glasgow institution, designed by Ben Kelly(of Hacienda fame) in the 80’s along with the hair dressers DLC next door. Almost 30 years on it still looks fresh with a mostly original interior, a good after work drinks bar which also works for pre-club drinks. The cocktails are good(mojitos esp.) and the food isn’t too bad.
