According to Glasgow City Council’s official website, Bingham Pond is a thriving example of wildlife conservation popular with Staff, patients and visitors to the nearby Gartnavel Hospital Visitors to the Pond Hotel Taxi drivers, who have a rank at the Hotel and Local people. According to this Unilocal review, Bingham Pond is unpopular with Me. As, as far as I can see, it is completely non descript piece of water surrounded by the ugliest hospital in Glasgow and the traffic fumes of Great Western Road.

Good god what a dismal way to spend any time, not just 5 mins, any time, life is precious people, you could be hit by a bus at any minute… well not if your in the house or actually on a bus, but you get where i’m coming from right? well, if you do then please please please do not waste this precious time in visiting this ‘pond’. I’ve seen puddles on the street with more allure and character than this, and in a city like Glasgow which has some of the most wonderful parks and green spaces, its amazing that this thing is allowed to exist. Stay clear, save yourself.

Cards on the table, a trip to Bingham Pond is not a life changing experience. In fact, even if you walk around it on a grey Monday afternoon in January it’s probably unlikely to fight it’s way into your top three highlights of that particularly mundane day. In saying that, it’s a nice way to punctuate the fairly monotonous walk along Great Western Road between Devonshire Gardens and Anniesland and provides a surprisingly peaceful retreat from the relentless flurries of fume-belching traffic that race down Great Western Road. Back in the day, there used to be boat rides offered around here but now entertainment, using the term loosely, consists of bird watching and feeding. On a cautionary note, this place belongs to the swans and it’s not unheard of for the majestic beasts to race towards unsuspecting children or neds who have taken their tormenting a little too far. You have been warned, never mess with a Glaswegian swan.
