I always picture takeaway owners hunched over a table, scribbling down witty names on a notepad. «The Hong Kong House? Too cheesy. Peking Tom’s? Too risky.» Although nothing will EVER top Thais ‘R’ Us, there’s no doubt Bollywood Spice is a decent attempt for an Indian. If truth be told, however, this little operation is actually more of an all-in-one, offering stuffed pizzas to chips and curry sauce. At the foot of Crow Road, I’m usually in here on a Sunday night, thumbing the menu, finally free from the shackles of my hangover. Ironically, the only rubbish meal I’ve had was a curry itself — a salty saag paneer, with a naan bread better equipped for sandpapering. The staff get the job done, but don’t expect too much interaction. Here’s a transcript of a recent visit: «Margherita? There you go.» «Cheers.. . ehh, by the way, I haven’t paid yet.. .» «Ah! £5.95, please.» «No bother. If I didn’t like you as much, I’d have been off, haha!» *.. .solemn expression, stony silence.. .*

Excellent curries, excellent value. Bollywood Spice very much comes under the cheap and cheerful category as opposed to top quality, but sometimes this is all you desire. With fast and efficient service and a good choice, it’s an extremely handy option if you happen to find yourself in this stretch of Dumbarton Road.

It may have already all been said before but when a place is this good, it deserves to be said just one more time… This is the place to go if you want a tasty curry at an agreeable price. You get really nice, good authentic Indian food cooked well and in good sized portions. Furthermore, it doesn’t fall into ‘the spicier, the better’ category which some Indian takeaways do(I suspect this is due to masses of drunkards regularly saying the ‘like it hot’ or something to that effect). Indeed, the food is well spiced and caters for those who like mild, creamier curries too. Sadly, I no longer frequent this place quite as much due to the boy moving flat. However, if we happen to be along this part of Dumbarton Road we’ll go out slightly out of our way in order to get some top notch grub from here. Excellent.

Dumbarton Road is full of excellent Indian takeaways(Chapati, 7 spices) but this one is really good. Staff is really nice and they take good care of there customers. For example, I got some chips and curry today and they actually made the curry sauce fresh for me. It was absolutely outstanding and so tasty that I know I’ll get some more next time!
