Wow, another one of those places I go to almost everyday and yet have failed to write about. It’s a corner shop, being on the corner of Ingram Street and The Candleriggs. It sells the usual corner shop goodies, cereals, tins of beans, bread, milk, newspapers etc. But it’s the deli section that sets this apart from the run of the mill grocery shop. Delicious fresh fillings for rolls, sarnies, ciabattas, baguettes, focaccias, paninis. The paninis are quite the thing by the way. If you have a sandwich, you really should have some sort of dessert, shouldn’t you? Right next to the deli meat counter is an equal sized homemade baked goods counter. This is a dangerous counter, full of viciously sweet things like milk chocolate caramel slices and toffee crunch slices. Go on, you only live once. For some reason, unbeknownst to me, I’ve never tried the soup, but I’ve been informed of it’s awesomeness. I shall rectify this shortcoming soonly. Box of Delights also have a great range of Scottish produce like shortbreads, butterscotch biscuits, porridge slices. There’s a large selection of grown up juice, beers, Scottish ales & spirits. If you’re in the area and are looking for a good sammich, or a tin of beans, this is place.

Great deli with lovely fresh made rolls to order, loving the huge crossaint’s filled with ham and coleslaw. Also a small but good booze selection. Loving the Freddo Frog ceramic jars!

This corner shop lives up to its name. From a daily newspaper, to sweets, chocolate, cakes or a freshly made sandwich or roll, it’s definitely the place to go for those emergency items. I have it on good authority that they do a great roll and slice!(roll with lorne sausage)

Despite resembling a fairly run of the mill newsagents from the outside, Box of Delights is arguably the best lunch time option in the area for those looking for a quick bite. The sandwiches are a cut above elsewhere — freshly made with top notch ingredients and plenty of choice, while the soup of the day tends to be a little bit more interesting than the ubiquitous tomato and basil option of neighbouring businesses. There are a handful of seats, but during the most mainstream lunch hours, you better be quick if you’re going to nab one. As well as the lunch time fare, there are plenty of other goodies stocked here which ensure the name is merited as well as quirky. In particular, I’m not surprised to see an American Unilocaler give this place a glowing review given the number of across-the-pond delights on the shelves.

Lovely little deli in the merchant city in Glasgow, its not expensive as these places tend to be. The tea/coffee are well priced and so are the sandwiches and rolls etc. Staff are really nice. Stocks a small amount of household essentials as well, washing up liquid, etc. They even stock the new version of creamola foam!

Not just a clever name. Round the corner from where I am currently studying, I went here one afternoon last week with a friend who took a notion for one of their sandwiches. It was a welcome alternative to my usual roll and whatever I fancy from some of the wee shops on George Street and I found myself taking the time to have a wee look around. It reminds me of Coias Café on Duke Street, full of funky bits and bobs to entice your tastebuds. Well worth a look if you fancy a super tasty sandwich to go. Recommended.

Essentially looking like a newsagent’s from the outside, Box of Delights is in fact more of a sandwich bar, and despite looking unremarkable, quite a delicious one at that. Unfortunately, they’re no longer doing Jelly Belly beans, which was my main reason for visiting. Until you’ve tried a buttered popcorn Jelly Belly, or a pina colad, or a coconut, or a red apple, or a jalapeño, you haven’t lived.

This place does some of the best fresh made sandwich’s in Glasgow. There prawn mayo is slightly addictive. There prices are reasonable. They have a good selection of wine and beer for how small the place is. Also they have a massive selection of jelly beans.

I was lucky enough for Box of Delights to be my local corner store for the last year(of six) that I lived in Glasgow. Conveniently located on the corner of Candleriggs and Ingram Street across from the NPC car park, it’s got everything one could want in a neighbourhood store and at very reasonable prices. But it’s aptly-named; it has so much more than just the standard stock of loo roll, cupboard staples, batteries, alcohol, and cigarettes. There’s small-label ice cream locally made in Scotland. Fabulous for expatriates, there’s a truly incredible selection of American goods — including a massive Jelly Belly jellybean dispensary taking up one entire wall, which is brilliant for students and children as well. It is always worth regularly walking down each aisle and taking a closer look; one never knows what little random goodies of wonder and joy will be found at the Box of Delights. Then there is the mini-deli with gourmet meats, cheeses, salads, and homemade microwave-ready convenience meals. Box of Delights makes gourmet soups and gourmet sandwiches & toasties(on a wide choice of breads) to order on the spot for less than a couple of small pies at Gregg’s. It’s not just takeaway either; there’s a little bar at the window facing the street at which to sit on a stool and watch the world go by or read the paper. The staff are all very sweet, friendly people who get to know their regulars and ultimately those who come into the store often get to know them as well; they are happy to take(and will follow through on) requests to carry additional items. When I made a point of going into the store during a visit to Glasgow almost a year after I’d moved, they were excited to see me and remembered both things I’d said and my purchasing habits. *That* is customer service. I miss Box of Delights very much. Definitely a hidden gem of Glasgow.
