I was visiting Glasgow last month and would pass by everyday when I’d take the subway. I could never get my timing right as it would either be too early or too late. On my last afternoon, I found them to be open, so I strolled into the take-out area or as y’all call it, the«take away». My «Scottish Cousin” — not really a blood cousin, but a really good friend, told me to try a sausage and potato scone. WTH? Ok, is it a sausage roll and a potato scone? Two different things? No, he said it was two ingredients in one item. I asked the folks at the Café and they looked just as perplexed as I was. Ok, whatever, the line started getting long with hungry football fans and I started to panic. «Uh, chips and cheese please». The gentleman behind the counter asks me if I want salt and vinegar on it. Hmmm… never had that combo on cheese fries. So, yes to the vinegar and I forgo the salt. Best. Cheese. Fries. Ever.(Sorry, Cheese Chips) ;-) OMG. Is it the fresh thick-cut potatoes? Or the vinegar doused on the fries fresh out of the fryer? Or the freshly grated cheddar cheese??? I am now cheese fry ruined. :sigh:

Small little friendly Café with home made food and a long list of supper menu. Prices are good value for money. Menus are all on the tables and the waiting staff are really efficient and friendly, even it’s busy. They’ve got lunch time specials which are worth checking out if you’re in for a big meal. Portions are big(for me at least) and food came in less than five minutes.

I am writing this review for the take-away part of Café Avanti as I have yet to sit-in to eat there. Moving to a new area always comes(for me anyway) the problem of trying to find yourself your new favourite and ‘go-to’ take-away joints. To me this is quite important; sad but true! I do love a good cheeky take-away on a cold, wet evening… or a dry, warm evening… I’m really not fussy, I just like a wee break from cooking every now & then. Who doesn’t? Finding a new chippy in Partick that was well within a good walking distance to our new abode was on my list of ‘Things To Do’. You don’t want one that is slightly TOO far away coz then you’re faced with the prospect of returning home with said take-away to find it only slightly warm or wet(if it’s raining) Bah. So step up Café Avanti! This is probably the closest chippy to us & I am happy to report it is a really good chippy. We usually order a sausage supper and either a fish or roast chicken supper with a portion of gravy or curry sauce(yum…slurp!) and every time we have had a take-away from here it has been nothing but damn fine. The chips always seem to be fresh(I get the feeling they only cook their chips in small batches at a time as you quite often have to wait for chips — which I always like as it means they’ll be SUPERFRESH!) and their battered sausage & fish is always tasty. My favourite is their roast chicken… oh my! This avian delight is simply nom-tastic…you have to wait about 15mins for it(we usually pop into nearby Morrisons) but it is worth the wait. You get a HUGE quarter(I think? It seems much bigger though) of chicken all for £5.30(for the supper) I think that price is pretty good considering how much you get & the size/quality of the chicken. I also am a fan of their curry sauce here which you get a HUGE cup of to go with your food and it is lovely, proper chip shop curry sauce. Mmm… Alongside the usual chip shop foodage they also sell pizzas(I am yet to try these) and their own version of KFC/Southern fried chicken ~ it always smells lovely but if I am in the mood for chicken I can’t see past their roast chicken. Staff are reasonably friendly and the prices are good for a West End chippy. Also they are very handy for Partick train station or subway. Thank you Café Avanti for saving me from dodgy chippy Hell!

Been before. Had nice pizza and chippy food was great to. Just now it’s just a coffee. A very nice one though. Clean environment and always nice staff :) Nice mix of people all seeming to enjoy the various delights on offer.

This is just your standard chippy no thrills, frills, spills, gills or even manills… nothing like that. If you find yourself int he area and are taken by a sudden oncoming bout of“musteatachippynowori’mgonnadieeeeee”, then this is as good a place as any. Popped in here the other day when heading to a mates after a few pints in town. They were just closing up and only had chips and some left over sausage like contraptions left, but hey, tasty as only deep fried starch and copious amounts of salt and vinegar can be… christ, its only 11 o clock and i can feel one of my bouts coming on… mmmmmmm. So yeah, check it out, its pretty handy for the Partick Subway and train station.

I’ve got to disagree with Jamie below. Fast and efficient service? It certainly wasn’t on my recent visit, though this could have been a one-off. I was in a couple of years ago when it looked practically the same and the service was relatively quick. But when I was in the other day, I was kept waiting along with four other people for five minutes until the«chips were ready». Excuse me but since when did you have to wait five minutes for chips to be ready in a chippy? It was especially annoying because the takeaway area is tiny and there was hardly any space for me or the other people to move for anyone else coming in. However the chicken nugget and sausage suppers are very good and not too expensive. About £3.40 for the sausage supper. There are also baked potatos, toasties and lots of different pizzas availible. The staff are very jolly and like to play pranks on each other — like firing elastic bands at each others’ faces. Gave me some amusement while waiting for the chips. There is also a vastly bigger area where you can sit in to have your fish ‘n’ chips — a good feature that most chippy’s don’t offer. And lastly being just next to the train/subway station and the bus stops, it is in an ideal location for travellers neading something to fill their stomach.

Decided to get some lunch in here because it looked very popular. I was out on my adventures one Saturday and found myself absolutely starving. The menu is quite extensive, and as varied as the clientele — ranging from four old ladies having a quiet tea, to a hungover-looking couple that had possibly died before managing to finish their giant fry-ups. The girl looked like she was about to be sick and the boy had his head on the table, periodically letting a pained moan emit. I decided on one of the«specials» — chicken goujons. Does anybody else think that chicken goujons are just a grown-up’s way of having chicken nuggets without the embarrassment? Well, they arrived fairly fast anyway, accompanied by my cup of tea. The portion was big, so I got stuck in enthusiastically. The food was nice, but pretty bland. The waitress was very busy and was almost tripping over herself to keep up with the work. Overall, it filled me up, but it was nothing special. Probably best saved for times when you’re as hungover as the couple in the corner.
