I still love this place so it’s another 5 star review from me! A new coffee shop seems to open daily in the West End but there aren’t many I love as much as Café Phoenix. The staff are lovely, so helpful and genuinely chatty and friendly. They bring your order over to you with a smile every time :) The flat white is still perfect, the cakes are still delicious. Keep up the good work! And if you haven’t been give it a try.

This is a brilliant little coffee shop where you are always met with a smile from the owner followed by a quality brew. I have been here many times and always brush up on my Yahtzee dice skills beforehand! Double six equals free coffee and I can vouch that them dice ain’t loaded as a large flat white has passed my lips for free!

Mad Skillz crochet commandeered the upstairs of Café Phoenix and a very lovely afternoon it was too. I’ve passed the café several times but never had the opportunity to sample what was on offer — silly me. It is a lovely friendly, cosy wee independent with groaning bookshelves. I had a very tasty americano which the staff brought upstairs for me — thank goodness because I just can’t be trusted with cup of hot liquid and a staircase. I quite fancied the nachos but what with using both hands to tangle wool into an approximation of crochet and needing my mouth to mutter and swear I wasn’t going to get the chance to actually get the nachos into my belly. The good news is that this gives me the perfect excuse to go back.

A place I have driven and walked by many many times but never actually went in. Shame on me! Thankfully this has been resolved through our fabulous Unilocal cool craft group known for that day Wool Club. First rule about Wool Club is tell all yer pals the knitters are on the loose. I was quite intrigued to see what Café Phoenix had to offer and how would it cope with the Unilocal ladies arriving armed to hilt with yards of chunky yarn of various colours. Cue song: «Ooooh yarn of various colours, yarn of various colours, yarn of various colours, red, and blue, and green.» Remind me to sing it to you the next time I see. Thanks to the lovely Unilocaler Lucy B her keen interest in arm knitting which kicked off this craftiness and thanks to Sharon M and her maw Helen for arranging the mezzanine area and showing us the way of the stitch. It was a lovely cosy area with comfy seats and quite good for a bit privacy. A thanks also goes to Briony for pre-arranging the option for one of their amazing cakes. When I went to choose I just didn’t know what to have as they have so many but the kind guy behind the counter guided me towards the lemon drizzle cheesecake. It was a good choice and took me most of the afternoon to eat as it was so huge. I also got a cheeky mocha to accompany my cake and it was simply slurpylicious. An excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon and cannot wait to go back for more. I have been told by a semi-pro crafter that it’s not wool but yarn. I was like«but I like Wool Club». Well, now I can tell her it’s renamed as ‘Yelp’s Mad Skillz Series’. Yay! If you’re in the Woodlands area definitely pop in for a wee treat as it’s worth it. Knitting optional.

Didn’t know this place existed until I signed up for the lovely Lucy’s crafting event through Unilocal. Cosy little place, packed with second hand books you can actually buy. I noticed the cake as soon as I walked in and it all looked delicious. They also do soya milk based coffee for no extra charge, which is always a plus. Take note, big chain coffee places! We had upstairs reserved for our arm knitting lesson. It was quite warm up there, probably due to the low ceilings. I could touch the ceiling, so if you’re super tall you may struggle. The staff were really helpful and brought our coffee and cake to us, even though we were all ordering seperately and at different times. I opted for a piece of their red velvet cake. I was served a massive chunk, so surprised at the portion I got. Had to wrap some up and take some home(not that I’m complaining). The cake itself was delicious, really soft and creamy. Had a cheeky bite of Jen’s toffee and banana loaf too, so good and super moist. Nothing worse than a dry loaf. I also had a lovely soya latte with gingerbread syrup. Came in at just under £3 for a small cup, perhaps a little bit expensive but it was lovely. The toilet is a little bit dinky and run down, but stuff like that doesn’t really bother me. Love that they have books in there too and some inspirational quotes if that’s your thing. I’d definitely pop back in here if I was passing, now that I know it’s there.

Having not been in this place for years, I’ve been here twice today. Sometimes things just work out that way. I popped in this morning for a cup of tea and a catch up with a friend. I know they do all sorts of fancy coffees — I did hear talk of a gingerbread soya latte — but they also do a few herbal teas too. I would prefer a slightly wider selection of herbal teas(I don’t count things like Green Tea and Earl Grey as herbal!), but I was very happy with firstly the Rooibos, and then I had a lemon and ginger. I’m told they normally do vegan cake too, but sadly there was none today — the guy is away apparently. But I think I’ll go back to sample it one day, as the café is lovely and cosy and it’s a nice place to be. The section upstairs is very comfortable and cosy — perfect for a catch up with a friend, or for a larger group. Staff are very friendly and helpful too.

What a neat little idea; to have a second-hand bookstore in a café. That’s exactly what Café Phoenix is, with shelves of pre-loved books for browsing whilst you indulge in a spot of lunch. Having neglected my thirst for reading since graduating and entering into working life,(philosophy was a reading-heavy subject, I tell you!) I was ready to delve headfirst in to books again. So, when my dad suggested we go for lunch in Glasgow, Café Phoenix was top of my list. The welcome was warm and the atmosphere chirpy. Café Phoenix is homely and cosey, just perfect for curling up with a book and a mug of something warm and comforting. The comfy couches upstairs are just made for an hour of getting lost in a good story, and I’m certain that you could easily lose track of time with some quality reading material and endless cups of tea. The menu is really very reasonably priced with lots of tasty lunchtime offerings. On this occasion we opted for the special. — Moussaka! Just how could we resist? It was delicious. Perhaps a little small in portion size, but it was great value, and the dish was full of flavour with a delicious creamy sauce. — The perfect warming meal for a cold Autumn afternoon, with room for cake afterwards if you’re one of the sweet-toothed among us. I didn’t have the chance to properly browse the book selection this time round but I look forward to taking in more of Café Phoenix next time, including sampling something from their drool-worthy cake cabinet. Books and tea and cake! — If you ask me, that’s a perfect combination. And Café Phoenix is just the place for it.

This incredibly friendly and cozy café offers great coffee, cakes, breakfast and lunch, and all for student friendly price! What a treat to sit in the upstairs sofas, and instead of studying sipping your cappuccino and daydreaming.

I just stopped into this place for coffee and a sandwich, and I was not disappointed. The sandwich came with a delicious little side salad that had more taste than a lot of those anemic piles of leaves that get served as side salads. I sat at one of the tables downstairs and did a bit of reading for uni. The atmosphere is great for that sort of thing — there are used books for sale, as others have mentioned, and they line the shelves to add a cozy feeling to the café. Best of all, however, were the staff. They were attentive and sweet; when I decided to add a slice of cake as a little treat for myself(I was getting some work done, after all!) they happily gave me suggestions. I decided on the sticky toffee loaf, which was wonderful. I felt right at home, and I’d definitely like to go back.

Café Phoenix is like your home away from home. When you enter you can either sit at the tables or you can head up stairs where the comfy couches and seats are located. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious, with rotating daily specials(home made chilli and stovies to name a few), soups, and an assortment of sandwiches(I recommend the pastrami sandwich). It’s also vegan friendly, with many vegan cakes, falafel and soya milk at no extra cost! Free wifi and 50p books to buy make this an excellent place to socialise or work, and the next time you’re wandering down Woodlands Road you should definitely drop in.

With its welcoming atmosphere and tasty, homemade food at reasonable prices, Café Phoenix is one of my favourite places to hangout in Glasgow. Daily specials include dishes such as Swedish meatballs and chilli and they are uniformly good and served in generous portions. There’s also always two soups of the day and the parsnip and chilli is a particular favourite. A great selection of cakes are also on offer and I would recommend trying any of the loaf cakes. And you definitely shouldn’t leave without one of their peppermint slices! The café also doubles as a secondhand bookshop and there’s lots of titles to browse available at the bargain price of £1 for hardbacks and 50p for paperbacks.
