Twas a sunny Saturday afternoon in the mysterious land of Ibroxia, and all the wee cafés were closing for the day(apparently 4pm is the uppermost limit for a café on a Saturday… who knew?). Alas, the other half and I doth cometh upon Café Sizzler, a place with a most intriguing combination Western /Indian menu. We were instantly welcomed when we entered and were seated by the lovely hostess, who was rocking some awesome mendhi. It always says a lot for a place when the servers don’t glare at you for asking for tap water… I’m weird, I don’t usually drink while I’m eating, so mostly beverages go nearly untouched by the time I’m done — no point wasting cash on it. So I was very happy to be given a tap water cheerfully for a change! What a lovely lady! Anyway, my beloved chose a chicken tikka burger, which I sampled and was super tasty. I ordered Paneer Saag! Now, you don’t often get Saag on a menu, and often when it does appear it’s disappointing, but I’m always hopeful! They asked what level of spice I’d like, and the chef even came over to let me sample it before serving to make sure it was just right. And it was tasty! When Saag is done just right, the spinach takes on an almost creamy texture, an absolute delight on the tongue! And let me tell you that this was ever so right! The best Saag I’ve had in a restaurant for a very long time, let me tell you. I opted for the Paneer(cheese) over the Aloo(potato), and got a garlic naan instead of rice. All was sublime! I was stuffed full just about half way through, and my meal was under a fiver. That’s real value for money. After I’d finished, the chef came over and gave me a taster of the mixed veg curry as well! I thought that was lovely. I’m definitely coming back… in fact, it may just warrant 5 stars next time if they can maintain performance! Drop in if you’re passing by, you won’t be disappointed.

So i am updating this review as it is pretty much night and day with the points i outlined before that they needed to sort. Took myself and the better half in here for a wee dinner/lunch business and it was brilliant. The food was as tasty as ever but it was the customer service that excelled it this time. It was a different staff this time and it was closer to 5 and the father and daughter couldnt do enough for us. We had free poppadums whilst we waited, the father who was cooking brought over my girlfriends saag to test it for spice and flavour before serving(a great touch), a taste of another similar veggie meal of mixed vegitarean curry. From this review i would definetely go back!
