Housed amongst all the finery of Argyll Arcade is Catherine Shaw, a contemporary jewellers selling mainly carrick jewellery and watches. It is very modern, with a fish tank and pebbled floor, the décor trying to compete with the modern jewels. The strange thing about in here is that every time i have visited, i have never been approached by an assistant, of which there is always only one. They never seem that bothered that you’re there, perhaps disheartened at being in the thick of the biggest Jewellery competition in Glasgow. They also sell cool word blocks which say profound things like ‘LOVE’ and ‘ROCK’ in glittery fonts, which come in at around 30 quid. Pretty cool for a present anyway. I never did purchase anything from Catherine Shaw, because in my opinion, there are many more(cheaper) contemporary jewellers in town which are miles better.

Catherine Shaw is a jewellery and gift shop located in the Argyll Arcade between Argyll and Buchanan Street. It’s unusual jewellery designs make it quite a pleasant break in the arcade, and I was more than happy to go in and have a look. Although, as I’ve mentioned, the jewellery was great — I couldn’t help thinking that maybe Catherine Shaw was trying a little too hard. As well as housing a giant fish tank(although I couldn’t see any fish…) the floor in this shop is embellished with collections of grey pebbles. Plus, the shop assistant looked nothing if not extremely bored. This was, as I’m sure you can imagine, a little off putting. However, it remains true that this shop sells a range of unique jewellery and attractive gifts. It also stocks Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired jewellery — which is great for a souvenir Glasgow style.
