Had a fabulous birthday meal with friends! Delicious steaks, succulent salmon, creative cocktails(Popping Candy Martini!) and the best customer service in Town from Andrea. Even the toilets are ahoy to behold! Situated right across from Glasgow’s iconic statue complete with traffic cone, CAU catches the eye with its glass frontage and metal staircase inside. But a visit inside is necessary to appreciate just what a great night out can be expected. First visit of many, I suspect!

Was invited to CAU for a social lunch with work colleagues and I’d never been before, so hey-ho let’s go. The organiser has given the heads up that there was a vegan in the party. When the waitress came I asked for two of the four or five veggie dishes/sides which looked vegan-friendly — the hummus and crispbread and the large version of the wholefood salad — and she returned to confirm these were ok. The salad was a decent size for £9 odds, would’ve liked a little more sweet potato in it. The soy and citrus dressing had a tart kick to it, would’ve been nice if it had been slightly sweeter. The hummus and crispbread was nicely presented; it wasn’t particularly runny so being on a slate wasn’t that much of an inconvenience. We were seated at the big front window, which was slightly uncomfortable with the heat but nobody suggested moving, and though I felt a tad like I was in a greenhouse it seemed a shame to complain given we finally had some daytime sun having been stuck in an office all day all week. It’s just sad the view across the way wasn’t nicer than whatever construction work was going on across the road. If you like steak it’s great for you — though how many places in the city centre can you get a steak? To me — as a non-steak eating Unilocaler — it feels like at least 5, but perhaps here it’s juicier/herbier/more g for the £. I have no idea. The setting is very modern. The toilets are upstairs so if you can’t climb stairs you may need to hold it in, unless people with an obvious disability are catered for downstairs — I didn’t investigate but observed it when a colleague asked where the toilets were. Service was fine, food was alright, no complaints really but nothing about it grabbed me enough to make it up on my list of places to go back to. They had a few nice sounding beers different from the usual generic selection, and a cocktail list which looked quite appealing if you’re into cocktails.

Finally got to try CAU for brunch club with fellow Unilocalers! Thumbs up for brunching activities haha Anyway, CAU is a pretty snazzy lookin place. It’s modern, big(double volume) and has tons of natural lighting because of the glass curtain wall façade. Perfect because we were seated right next to it, which meant the absorption of whatever sunlight that manages to peep through the bipolar Glasgow weather! So I got the Latin eggs, an alternative to the typical eggs benedict(with avocado and other goodness) which was £7 and a caffe latte which was £2(? more or less). It was all under a tenner anyway! The latin eggs didn’t seem like much in terms of portion but I can assure you that I was completely stuffed at the end of our brunch club outing! What sorcery?! The caffe latte, although very Scottish in portion(aka super large which I’m not the biggest fan of) was unexpectedly good! I was pleasantly surprised by how well done the coffee was! Kudos! The service was great! Manager was friendly and waiters was super accommodating! Also, free wifi! YASSS. I’m quite pleased with CAU tbh. Their brunch is nothing extraordinary, but they delivered it well and this has influenced by decision to return for some meaty dishes! Would really like to try their dinner menu! 2 thumbs up!

I decided to book Cau for a Friday night dinner with my mum. I had read some really great things from Brunch club, and I was keen to visit to see what kind of place it was in the evening. Also filled with confidence to pronouns it «Cow», thanks Kath R! I booked online, and you know that wee box that asks any other requests/requirements. I ticked this, and before I knew it I was requesting a nice seat at the window as it was my mums birthday!(Full blown fib!!!) Why did I not just request a nice window seat, no need to say anything more! FOOL! So the role play began from the moment we entered. «Happy Birthday Mrs Samuel, hope you have had a lovely day so far» EEK! Mum looking totally clueless! I really didn’t even think they read the tiny wee box at the bottom. Anyhoo, the special birthday seat wasn’t quite ready so we were shown to a small table and given the menu and cocktail list to peruse. Lots of fab cocktails on offer. I had the Cau-Lypso, which was a blend of rum, amaretto passion fruit and pineapple. It was super fruity and really refreshing. The birthday girl had Patagonian Mule, Vodka, Fernet Branca, ginger beer lime and apple. The ginger beer really came through and added some punch. We then were seated and a glass of Prosecco was waiting at the table for the birthday girl! At this point mum is fully mortified(didn’t stop her enjoying the bubbles though). The menu is a meat orientated. They do mark on the side of the menu for veggie, and gluten free options, however these are limited. We had eaten a pretty big lunch so opted for some tapas dishes, plus a large superfood salad to share. The tuna carpaccio was beautiful. Very fine, good portion and the wasabi mayo was nice and subtle and did not over power the dish. We then had the chicken skewers, and salt and pepper squid. The squid was crisped to perfection and again another substantial portion. The chipotle mayo in the side added to the flavour. I would say on a Friday night there was a mixed crowed, and it was really busy. The layout is pretty random, with seating on an angle along the back wall, booths as you come in the door. An area near the bar and then a larger area up the stairs. It felt pretty cramped as there appeared to be large office parties, and as Briony said in her review you did feel as if you were interrupting and pushing past everyone to get to the toilet. I did like all the grass wallpaper in the loos, and basically taking a wee tinkle in the dark as it is all pretty dark aside from a fab light above the toilet. I will definitely be returning to CAU and look forward to trying more of the menu when im really in the mood for some meaty delights!

Really really loved this place. It was a very sunny day in Glasgow(yes they do happen) and the Unilocal brunch club happened to be at Cau, an Argentinian restaurant. As we all put our sunglasses on, it really felt like a wee holiday in the city. A fair percentage of the party ordered the Latin eggs, including myself, and what a treat. Perfectly runny poached eggs with just the right amount of hollandaise(don’t you just hate it when your eggs are like fighting for their life in an ocean of rich hollandaise?), some grilled avocados and fresh corriander. Eggcellent!(Sorry) It was definitely a lovely way to start off the weekend and I shall return with my partner soon as I felt mega guilty stuffing myself with Argentinian goodness while he was at work. Bad girlfriend. Amazing brunch.

Fantastic brunch time with Unilocalers! As part of the Brunch Club we went this saturday to CAU. It was my 1st time here and the brunch was delicious! I order the latin eggs(with avocado, mayoinesse sauce and chimichurri) and they’re super tasty. For drink I chose a natural orange juice. My boyfriend order the crepes with nutella and nuts and were really good as well! The place is so cozy, with modern decoration and massive windows to see the street. It was a really nice brunch time and another good ocassion to see other Unilocalers. Price was good 17£ for the courses and 2 drinks. The only negative thing was that it took 20minutes to get the bill. I’ll come back for dinner!

I know what you’re all expecting, another brunch club review… but no(okay well I may mention it a bit later… ;-)) here’s my take on what Cau is offering up to the Glasgow food scene. First thing’s first, it’s pronounced«Cow», like that thing that moo’s, and yes, I did ask the waitress/Cau-girl this as I didn’t want to look even stupider when asking for the Cau G+T. Which, btw, is really quite refreshing, a bit like an Argentinian version of Sangria, but with gin instead of red wine! Drink sorted, we had a browse at the menu. To start we decided to share the hummus and crisp breads, artistically served up on a slate with homemade aubergine caviar, chilli and roasted nuts — it sure tickled the tastebuds! This we followed with the chorizo & red pepper and paprika chicken & yellow pepper skewers(each served with dip), smoked haddock croquettes(possibly my favourite thing!), triple cooked chunky chips and all the greens(you know, so we could kid on we were being healthy n that). Then came my second visit, April’s Brunch club! Odd choice of venue I thought, but go with it I told myself, you may be surprised! And I was! It had a really nice brunch menu with a Latin twist on the usual favourites, my choice — Eggs Benedict, with the twist being a drizzle of chimichurri. I had a nice 2-cup pot of English Breakfast tea with plenty tap water on the table for glugging. The bill was helpfully split out for each of us to save us the headache and they offer Zapper as a payment option. For those not in the know, Zapper is a free-to-download(using their free and speedy wifi!) app which allows you to scan your bill and settle up from your phone using pre-stored card details or paypal — no more trying to catch that Cau-girls eye to bring the card machine or wait on change! Wee Brucey Bonus, the first time you use the app you get £5 off your bill, result! I can’t really fault either visit, though I just feel something is missing, something is stopping me giving Cau 5 stars so for now, it’s a(still) fantastic 4.

I had never been to Cau before Unilocal Brunch Club, but had been meaning to try it out since it opened. Why? Two words– chimmichurri sauce. I fell in love with this sauce when on holiday last year after my first brush with Brazillian food. Breakfast with chimmichurri? Yes please. I ordered the latin eggs, which is described as ‘Grilled avocado, poached eggs, toasted muffins, fresh hollandaise and a drizzle of chimichurri’. When it arrived it looked so pretty, and presentation was consistent throughout as several other Unilocalers had ordered this too so we all ‘oohed’ and ‘aahhed’ at each others food. The avocado did not appear to be grilled but it was a lovely texture, and the hollandaise combined with chimmichurri was so tangy and complemented the eggs perfectly. I was surprised that the muffin worked as a bready base for this, I am not usually a massive fan of white bread but the consistency of the muffin was ideal for the toppings. I managed to drink my way through copious amounts of chilled water with my meal(why don’t all restaurants do this, it is ideal for group meals and really healthy?). I also had a cappucino which came in a small mug and had a good ratio of coffee to milk, and a cortado which was just the right strength. After our meal I was really impressed that the staff gave us all individual bills, in my experience this is not usually available for big group outings and it made it so easy to divide up the bill appropriately, avoiding all the awkward maths. The staff were lovely, although I think making them wear ‘Caugirl’ and ‘Cauboy’ t-shirts is a little out of date. Final tip, use their superfast wifi to download the ‘Zapper’ app while you are in the restaurant and get £5 off your meal. I felt mean to use it after the lovely meal so left a big tip(no fuss to do this from the app). I hope other places get this app too, it would be great for times when you might be in a hurry to pay, or for when you have no cash on you as it links to Paypal. Ta ta for now Cau, will be back for cocktails(and more chimmichurri).

So this was to be the venue for our latest Unilocal Brunch Club. I thought brunch in an Argentinian restaurant?! Hmmm, OK?! Well, you’ll be pleasantly surprised, they have a good selection on their menu as well as delicious coffees. I opted for, of course, a wee cheeky mocha and I went for the CAU Breakfast, which sounds like cow but there was no cows involved. Hehe! I had to make some changes because of my diet and I’m a total fusspot. I had the breakfast without the tomatoes, mushrooms and egg. They gave me extra sausages, bacon and a bucket of toast. Now I can’t complain at that. It was absolutely delicious and I pretty much scoffed the lot. The place is lovely as it’s so spanking new. I know it’s been open for a while but it’s still got that fresh modern feel and look to it. I love the cloud lights above the cocktail bar. Yes, I did indeed say cocktail bar. All the slurps! Oh yeah! I will indeed be getting my bahookie back down there soon for a wee schwally of the cocktails. The menu looked good and the wee seating area for cocktails was really nice. The staff could have not been any more accommodating. I was a wee bit late but they were on it for me to get my order in. They were, as mentioned above, great when adjusting my meal. At the end we had the option to pay via Zapper. We were all very intrigued. If you download the Zapper app onto your phone you can then scan the QR code on your bill and pay via the app. Just add your card or PayPal details and boom and the bill is paid. A handy way if you’re in a rush. I hope more restaurants look into adapting this method. It was great morning and great catching up with fellow Unilocalers and meeting some newbies too. Thanks to the staff for a lovely brunch and to Briony C. for organising. Angela B! Me and you are going for cocktails!!!

Ooooooh man! The cocktails are GOOOOOOD! I was wandering around a cold and slightly rainy Glasgow with my wee cousin looking for somewhere to get a nice dinner with a couple of cocktails and we spotted Cau and thought it looked pretty quirky. Food-wise, I’d probably give Cau 4* — the spicy broccoli was amazing, the chicken skewers less so, and the brownie was great but not the best I’ve had, but the cocktails definitely put Cau up to 5*. Between us we tried 6 different cocktails and they were all incredible… Including the fairly bizarre S’more cocktail including toasted marshmallows floating around on top?! Service-wise, Cau have some incredibly attentive staff who checked up on us a few times, filled our water jug when necessary but weren’t too in-your-face. Definitely will be back at somepoint!

We came here for good Steak. I’m on the hunt for it in Glasgow. We skipped on starters and went straight for the mains. I ordered the«TIRADEANCHO, 500g £33.50, The king of steaks. A spiral cut of rib-eye, marinated in chimichurri and grilled slowly for maximum tenderness.» The steak was very succulent and tender. The server warned me that I should get the steak medium and not medium/rare as I had requested. I agreed if that was the Chef’s recommendation. Upon cutting, it seemed to me as if it WAS medium rare. Anyhow it was just perfect. It was a huge cut of steak and I liked the chimichurri on top, which was not overpowering. The waitress that brought our dishes could not have been any more unenthused at her work. She spoke to the wall when talking to us. Just a very strange manner in such a nice restaurant. My partner and I were both gobsmacked because she appeared so rude for no apparent reason. Plopping the dishes down and offering condiments in her bored manner. All other staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We saw some early dine menus that were quite reasonably priced. So we might try those out, as the dishes are pretty steep in here.

Myself and my friends ended up in CAU on Christmas Eve after deciding last minute to go for dinner and not being able to book anywhere else! The restaurant has a cantina feel but still classy. The tables are well placed meaning your not touching elbows with fellow diners. There was 11 of us in total and we all ordered something different. We had the house red wine which was very nice and I also had a lemonade which was very refreshing. I decided to go for the chicken burger as the description on the menu sounded amazing. My friend Joanna ordered steak medallions and they looked delicious and were very tender I was told. My burger however was the bees knees. Crispy, full of flavour and the mayonnaise was an excellent touch. The service was great, very personable and the price reasonable too. I would definitely return to try out more of the menu.

Whilst it might look a bit like a space-age radiator shop housed within an airport, CAU is in fact a worthwhile culinary addition to the Merchant City and nicely plugs a foodie gap on that section of Ingram Street. Situated next to the deliciously vulgar Armani flagship store with it’s Orwellian video walls of Cate Blanchett showing you how much more lovely stuff she has than you, CAU offers diners Argentian fare, though there’s not a whiff of Peronism to be seen. In fact, I was half-expecting similar video walls emblazoned with Evita but was sadly disappointed(Madonna fan, sorry). For our mains, my friend and I had the Buenos Aires burger and the Tapa de Caudril. To reference Madge again, HELLO Buenos Aires! Juicy but not bloody, the burger patty was delicately crumbly in the best possible way with just the right amount of crispy charredness on the outside. The sauces were flavoursome but not overpowering and it all worked very well together, without ever feeling too little or too much. The Tapa de Caudril, however, was a bit of a let down. Five flash-fried and thinly-sliced bits of steak felt like not much for £15, and by the time it got to our table from the kitchen it had started to go cold. By the last mouthful it was freezing, which was disappointing. The cornflake ice cream sundae more than made up for this let down though, and was a pleasant if unorthodox ice cream choice CAU is definitely somewhere I’d come back to. The meat is delicious and evidently of a high quality, and from what I’ve seen the burgers represent the best value for money, being not only great burgers in a city whose arteries are rapidly clogging with burger joints(arteries = streets, see what I did there), but really great quality beef.

I’ll start off by saying if I was reviewing the steak alone it would be 5 stars. However there were too many niggles. The restaurant is modern, relaxed and rather swanky There were 4 of us eating, we all had starters, I went for the beef ribs, the meat was melt in your mouth, however they were under seasoned. My fiancée had the tuna tartare which was delicious and fresh. My brother had lamb skewer which he felt was under seasoned and my brothers partner had empanadas which she described as being more pastry than filling. The main event was incredible. I had the 500g Lomito cooked rare and it was rather special. Cooked and seasoned to perfection washed down with a glass of red. My partner went for the same only the 400g option and was as happy as me. I opted to have Peppercorn sauce which disappointed for two reasons the quantity is rather stingy however the sauce itself was hugely disappointing and far too watery. My brother went for the 500g TIRADEANCHO, described as The king of steaks. A spiral cut of rib-eye, marinated in chimichurri and grilled slowly for maximum tenderness. Again cooked and seasoned to perfection. We all had the thick cut chips with our steaks and they were delicious, chunky and crisp on outside fluffy in the middle! We were all rather full and shared a portion of dolce Di leche churros between the 4 of us for dessert. The dolce Di leche was delicious, thick, sweet and sticky however the churros were a massive disappointment. They were far too greasy and tasted more like a chip! I am aware it was a miserable night in Glasgow last night but down stairs in the restaurant was cold and needs addressed as our fair old city has more miserable nights than good, there was a lot of diners sitting with their jackets on. Great selection of wine, cocktails and quilmes beer always goes down well. Service charge of 10% was added to the bill. We had a 30% off food card which was nice. Without it then the bill would have been a bit more steep. Instead it was very reasonable. I will go back but will likely have steak only as the rest of the meal was a disappointment however the steak was genuinely one of the best steaks I’ve had in Glasgow.

In the immortal words of Buddy the Elf: I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it! CAU was quite simply, amazing. Came here last night for dinner with my cousin and absolutely couldn’t fault a thing! I’ve realised that I write a lot of 5-star reviews, most likely because those are the ones I most enjoy writing, so I’m trying to scrutinise places a lot more — but it would be unfair if I didn’t give CAU all 5 of those lovely shiny stars! Everything about the experience was great — the place itself is swanky-looking, very swish inside, the staff were fabulous and the food was unintentional noises good. Oh yes, that good. Having looked at the menu beforehand, I could already see at least 5 or 6 things I had to have, so this is definitely where small plates come into play!(But having read what people have to say about the steaks, I’ll be back for them!) We decided to share 5 small plates between us, which plus a dessert each was a decent amount of food! I can’t personally comment on the empanadas, since my cuz had them herself, but she had one each of the chorizo and ground beef options and said they were fab! I did, however, launch myself at the BBQ beef ribs, which were unbelievably good and I probably won’t stop thinking about them until I eat something similarly amazing. The dishes we *actually* shared were both types of croquettes and the chorizo flatbread. The haddock croquettes were probably my favourite of the two, so delicious, crisp enough and not too cheesy — result! The mushroom croquettes were very good as well, but we both agreed we wouldn’t have managed the full portion ourselves as they were very rich, so a couple of them did the job.(Additionally, in what is possibly the most middle-class thing to ever happen to me, it would appear I have a truffle intolerance. Like actually.) But if you love mushrooms then I definitely recommend them! I spent a good while picking between desserts(dessert platters would be an amazing addition, hint hint!) and went for the Churros as a) they’re served with dulce de leche, mmmmmm! and b) I didn’t want any ice cream due to the current weather situation. Cornflake Sundae, I’ll be back for you. The churros were basically perfect! They’re quite thin which makes them perfect for dipping and they didn’t feel greasy in the slightest, as well as being delicately flavoured with cinnamon — not too much but not so little that you couldn’t actually taste it. One other thing that really deserves a special mention is CAU’s ability to deal with dietary requirements. My poor cousin is allergic to many things(mainly nuts and pulses) and has to be pretty careful about what she eats or she can end up being quite unwell. CAU have an entire *folder* which lists all allergens each dish contains — so useful for staff and customers alike!

Overall, I was pretty impressed with Cau. But there was a few niggles here and there(which might just be teething issues) so it’s a 4 for me, for now. Cau doesn’t look like anywhere else in Glasgow. Massive glass windows so passers by can get a good look in at the place, and at you eating your dinner. You might like that, or you might not. We weren’t too close to the window so I wasn’t overly bothered. I have mixed feelings about the décor — there’s a wall of blue sky and then some cloud lights around the place, along with corrugated white walls. It’s all a bit weird. Onto the menu. I’d been away in Manchester for the week eating out for everything single meal, so I decided to order some small dishes rather than a steak. From the name you can guess this is a meat-heavy menu, they do mark vegetarian and gluten free options. That being said, there’s only two dishes which are vegetarian mains so if I was veggie, this would put me off. The highlight of the small dishes was the tuna carpaccio — thinly sliced tuna with capers, chilli, peppers, herbs & lemon oil. Perfectly balanced flavours, a generous portion and delicious. The next dish I tried was the chicken & red onion skewer. While this was nicely presented on a plate that looked like a grill plate, the flavour was fine and I couldn’t fault it but I just would have liked a bit more punch to it. I also got the aubergine flatbread which had quite a bit of sweetness to it — I have no idea what it was as the menu says it’s just aubergine and mozzarella. Personally, it wasn’t to my taste but Graeme liked it. Service was fine, no complaints there. The layout of the restaurant isn’t great though — it’s pretty cramped and when you go upstairs to the loo, there’s no clear path to the toilets and you feel like you’re barging past people’s tables. Halfway through our meal, a group was sat at the tables next us and as such, one of the tables was boxed in the corner. This meant the waitress was bumping Graeme’s chair to get back and forth to take orders, bring drinks, food etc which got pretty annoying. Overall, I liked Cau. It’s a pretty slick place. I don’t know if I would rush back as I feel like Glasgow is over-run with meat-focussed restaurants and while I liked the small plates, they weren’t blow-my-socks-off amazing.

T’was a quite Wednesday evening(a few weeks) before Christmas, when myself and beloved best friend and fellow food critic Tomas headed out for dinner. Our original plan was somewhere in Princess Square — as we are on a mission to review every restaurant within it’s four wall, but disappointment struck like lightening when we discovered that the majority of restaurants were in fact closing for the evening. So we headed out in to the hellish winter cold and went East — just like the three wise men did when they found the baby Jesus. Well in a way we also found Jesus, in the form of an Argentinian Steakhouse, CAU. As Tomas and I approached the big, black monster looking building that is 110 Queen St, we both felt a sense of wonder as we tend to stick to what we know, and South American cuisine isn’t something I’m that well-versed in. Nonetheless we headed inside and as always, were immediately shown to a table by our waitress for the evening, Karen(who I should say now was more than splendid). Now the restaurant is two floors, the majority of tables are at ground level and a smaller number situated upstairs and I have to say at first I was a little worried about the location of our table as it was right up against a window that gazed directly onto the busy Ingram Street, and myself and Tomas were clearly visible to any Tom, Dick or Harry that cared to look in, However this did not prove to be a problem and I felt it would have been then a stern word would have been put in the ear of the restaurant manager! So anyway, we took our seats and the table and to my surprise these were no ordinary seats, these were swivel chairs or spiny chairs — which added to the restaurants unique identity and individuality. The tables themselves are nicely laid with long silverware, real napkins and real candles(I appreciate all of the above). Our waitress, Karen then returned and took our drinks and food orders, we had two cokes as usual and on this occasion we both decided to only have one main course — which I must say is a first for the pair of us. I had the two Steak Medallions — cooked medium to well and served with triple cooked fries and peppercorn sauce. Tomas went for the Sirloin Steak — cooked rare and also serves with triple cooked fries and peppercorn sauce, both dishes are pictured below. We then waited around 15 – 20 for our steaks to arrive and this grace period gave me the perfect opportunity to have a look around the restaurant and do my usual inspection of the facilities. The restaurant is expertly designed with a modern finish of high sealing’s and an overall black look against the recurring theme of green grass and blue skies — this is found throughout the restaurant from the walls to the menus and even the toilets(which more than passed my unofficial examination). I later returned to my table and spoke to Tomas for a while about my huge, egotistical sense of importance and entitlement. I went on to say that any restaurant that challenged said ego would be severely stricken down on Unilocal and PWNED! Tomas, encouraging as he is added that I was incapable of PWNING anyone — as I am a dick! Anyway soon after those kind words our food arrived and I have to say, CAU has earned an A+ for presentation. Steaks expertly seared with grill marks, fries served in those parody miniature deep fryer things(any restaurant goer knows what I mean) and the peppercorn sauce was served in these old fashioned milk jug things — also miniature, and dare I say, cute. From the first bite of Medallion it was clear to me that CAU was a 5 Star restaurant — if you’ve ever had a perfect steak you know what I’m talking about, the prime cut meat, perfectly seasoned, juicy, almost no fat and the perfect medium well sear. I could not have asked for anything more than what this steak gave to me. Though Tomas had hit a little snag. Upon cutting the first segment of his sirloin, Tomas noticed that the steak appeared bloody and almost raw. Alas! In the error of his ways, Tomas had«accidently» ordered his meat rare as opposed to his usual medium rare! Alas indeed, this mistake would cost him the majority of dinner — not to mention his dignity. Though we both agreed the fries were delicious as was the peppercorn sauce! I Should also note that when the time came to settle the bill, Tomas, very honourably offered to put the last of his earnings towards it, which meant he wouldn’t enjoy lunch the following day. This was a very selfless act, and he immediately regained some of that lost dignity! In conclusion, CAU is a new restaurant which has quickly earned my trust and recommendation. It has made a good first(and hopefully lasting) impression on myself, as well as Tomas, and I would happily return.

CAU is architecturally sleek and has the Argentinian flavour. It was our first time here and we had a good time of it. Upon entering, a cow chart segregates cuts for meat newcomers. And the area leading into the bar salon is a bit hectic, so I do need to mention the very messy bar counter where it heaved under the load of glasses upon glasses placed but never cleared. Service was also a bit in disarray .but not bad. As a whole, the staff were accommodating with standard efficiency. Its new and for that with the amount of people, it was not too bad. We enjoyed the cocktail menu and the delicious meat had our mouths watering even after consumption. I especially liked how we had the option to choose various weights of meat. It was delicious, and well worth a new addition to Glasgow. That meat oven they have in the kitchen is certainly an item worth envying. *also a shout-out to those CAU– girl & CAU-boy shirts.adorbs.

Now, some may say I’m biased, but I’ve eaten in various other places where my family member has been head chef and not been too high with the praise… they can only work with what they’re given… I ate here last week for the first time. You can tell the cau boys and cau girls are still getting to grips with the new tech they take orders on, causing the odd we hiccup, but they were excellent all round. Attentive, friendly, quick with the drinks and generally making sure we were sorted. A couple of bowls with mixed chunky bread, accompanied by a kind of lightly spiced butter were fired down quick smart. Now I have been told that the portions I got were the same as what any customer would get. The chunks/slices etc were massively generous. And tasty. I opted for the chicken and red onion skewer for a starter. I found this to be very nice. But I wasn’t there for the starter. For the main, I went for a cut of lomito, which according to the menu is an Argentinian speciality. It comes in 400 or 500g portions. You get the option of side to accompany. I went for thrice(yes 3!) cooked chunky chips. And some onion rings. I like onion rings. The steak also comes with a blue cheese sauce. This was the best steak ive ever eaten. No steak knife required for this chunk of meat. My basic dinner knife cut it no problem. I’ve eaten in grill on the corner several times(same chef!) and once in mcmillans in shawlands(which is very good) and this steak wiped the floor with it in terms of flavour and texture. I was too full to have a Pudding, but got a wee taste of everyone else’s — cheesecake, browny and a pineapple thing. Lovely They also do bottles of quilmes(delightful), quilmes red(equally delightful) and a German lager, which my old man thoroughly enjoyed. My only gripe? The music was maybe a bit loud. But then I’m an old bugger

Not another chain! CAU is in a purpose-built unit with lots of space and a stratospheric ceiling. We walked in on their very first day trading and were immediately greeted cheerfully by a Cau Boy(sic). He had to take time out from a team-bonding game that seemed to involve passing a stressball between the team using only your chin. We got seated, ordered our drinks, and then got asked another couple of times if we wanted more drinks. We hadn’t even got our first ones yet… and no we don’t want water! First day glitches aside though it was lovely, joyful service, it took a little time to get our food order taken but that was the only slight niggle. We went for the small plates option and ordered Yerba-smoked Beef, Tuna Carpaccio, two types of Empanada(pastry parcels) — spicy beef & onion, and chorizo & cream cheese, Hummus & Crisp Breads, and two types of Anticuchos Skewers — chicken & red onion, and lamb & red pepper. In no time we were munching away, the carpaccio and yerba-smoked beef were sliced incredibly thinly and the accompanying micro-herbs and capers added just the right amount of extra. Rabbit food maybe, but really nice. The empanada was kind of samosa-like but with western fillings, and I really liked them. The spicy-beef one being like a loose bridie, in a good way. The chorizo & cream cheese one reminded me of Turkish filo parcels I’ve had. It was very cheesy, really very cheesy indeed! The skewers came with perfect accompaniments and sauce, my only negative comment would be that the lamb was slightly tough, only slightly though. Even the hummus was a bit different, it had nuts and sliced chilli through it, it was only hummus and I really enjoyed it. Not another chain. Yea another chain, and a great one!
