This unlikely restaurant is my post-Catty saviour. Want some no-fuss fast-food style Chinese food? It’s open until 4am for your post partying munchies requirements. The food is very nice for what it is, and you don’t just have to pick one thing from the selection. You select a box size, choose noodles or rice, and then you can ask for a combo of anything in front of you. Quick, without frills or fuss, and it fills a wee hole after all that alcohol fuelled dancing. What’s more is that it has a wee side window where you can buy pizza, chips, burgers, and hotdogs! I was obsessed with their hotdogs for a while(with onions mustard and ketchup — nom!), and I’ve got chips from here or pilfered other people’s chips from here more times than I can count. It’s fantastic if you want to grab food and run for the bus! Mwahahaha! ^^ The shop benefits from a great location — right across from McDonalds, so if people hungering for a fast food fix decide they fancy something else, they need only cross the road. Go if you fancy a quick and affordable nibble.

This place is awesome for the late night quick service. I’m a club photographer and get out at 2−3am and usually want some dinner before I go home, you go in, pay a fiver and you are out in less than a minute. I get salt and pepper chicken a lot with chicken noodles, but as it doesn’t come in a sauce I ask them to put a little curry sauce or sweet and sour in it and they do it no problem. Wish you there was a greater chicken to noodle ratio but hey ho. Black steward who’s there at night is brilliant, always a smile on his face and so friendly.

I’m so amazed that this wasn’t the worst meal I’d ever eaten. From the outside it didn’t look promising, but I was starving and it was 11pm on a Monday. I was greeted by a slightly surly chap who chucked a sizable portion of sweet and sour chicken(so it should be for blinkin’ £4) into a cardboard box for me, and then told to get tae as they were closing. I expected the worst, but it really wasn’t that bad. Crispy chicken, liberal helpings of sauce, and perfectly done rice. I might even eat there again! Maybe. If I’m starving and it’s 11pm on a Monday.

Not bad for a quick spot of lunch. Nothing special though, think I’ll stick to the china buffet king for a cheap Chinese.

Not a big fan of Chinese food, but unfortunately, KFC closes early so when it’s kicking out time at a nearby club your choice is limited. It gets busy after hours and the food will fulfil your needs at such a time sufficiently, with no grumbles in the way of bad service or shoddy portions. The food isn’t epic and the seating isn’t so elegant, but for a wee Union Street prowl, there is a decent selection of grub on the go in here that should suitably keep you going while you wait on a taxi to 123 Acannae Drive.

I first swung into Chopstix when I was steaming and wittily proclaimed it «Chopsti» since the light in the x was out! Oh, how the cashier must’ve loved me… That’s just the thing, though. Chopstix is one of those fast fast food establishments where, albeit it in a chirpy manner, you’re given your polysterine box full of a Chinese megamix of food and sent on your merry way. Which is just the ticket when you’re drunk but I don’t know if I’d ever shimmy on down here sober. Still, as the last reviewer said I praise food establishments that can put up with drunken miscreants and have the patience to serve them. It’s also handy to have a shop on hand to dish out the sweet and sour when you’re trying desperately to sober up for the long journey home. Great if you’ve danced your socks off in the Cathouse, SubClub or Classic Grand and fancy a munch at 4AM, but regrettably, not somewhere I’d think of to eat when I’ve got a clear head.

I always appreciate a food outlet that has taken hungry, swaying drunk students into account, and Chopstix has certainly done that. Situated next to the big McDonald’s on Union Street, and amongst various pubs and clubs including the Cathouse, Chopstix is bound to do a roaring trade. I visited one night after a rare night out at the Cathouse, and i was probably the soberest amongst my friends, which gives me the authority to tell you all how average it was. The food is kept under hotplates, a bit like school dinners used to be, and served in cardboard boxes. It’s the usual selection of noodles or rice with curry, sweet and sour or black bean. There was little choice, but then there doesn’t need to be. It was fine, i ate it all(mainly because i was starving) and it was cheap. There were also security men at the toilet doors which i found a little disconcerting. I wouldn’t go taking your Valentine here for a meal or really even visiting in the cold, sober light of day but for a pre-club snack, it fits the bill perfectly.

I’m always wary of places with intentional bad spelling. But the fact that this place is almost always busy made me go in to try. Chopstix has it’s most popular meals on a board outside, and it is pretty cheap. The fact that the food is all ready to be served means it’s fast and good for a quick lunch. Portions are pretty big, and the food is nice! Not the best I’ve ever had, but good for something fast, tasty and filling. And you don’t need to use chopsticks.
