Previously an Alldays, the Co-op on Barrachnie Road is a newsagents /small supermarket, with an off-liscence built in. It has 3 main focuses: alcohol and tobacco, newspapers and magazines, and pre-packaged food. You’ll also be able to find fresh ready-made foods, bread and milk, and a LOT of fizzy drinks and sweeties. It is therefore a great place to drop in to get those extra groceries, a bottle of wine, and some munchies before a house party or a nice night in. In this area, there is no shortage of big supermarkets, so although it’s a lot like the local supermarkets in the city centre and the west end, it doesn’t serve the same purpose. A great wee place to get your«bits» when you can’t be bothered to wade through the crowds at the big supermarkets.

This store has recently been refurbished. It is handy for popping and getting the odd thing here or there that you have forgotten or need in a hurry. It would be impossible to to do a big shop in here as it is very expensive. They do have the odd offer here or there though. The one thing that I do like from here is their fabric softner and I buy it on a regular basis. It is handy as it is on the main road and as it is smaller than most supermarkets it does have a corner shop feel to it almost. The same staff have worked in it for years and they are all really friendly and helpful.
