Ordered a dozen cupcakes from here on Thursday and they were ready for collection the next day. Possibly the best cupcake I’ve ever had. I purchase 3 chocolate, 3 vanilla, 3 red velvet and 3 strawberry and everyone loved them. Although I wasn’t enquiring about any celebration or large cake, the ones on display in the store look incredible and would highly recommend a visit. Can’t believe the business has been going for 20 years and I’ve only just discovered it in the past week — will definitely be back!

A nice little shop with an impressive selection of cake designs and flavours. Popped in to buy some cupcakes for friends and came away with a box of treats almost too heavenly to eat. Lovely chatty staff too.

Cupcakes are just okay. Have had way better in NYC. Also, it wouldn’t kill them to invest in bags with handles. Overall, great idea for a shop… poor execution.

You have no soul or heart if a cupcake doesn’t bring a smile to your face. Cupcakes are beautiful, wee, and tasty(most of the time). In the last few years, cupcakes have become a major trend all across the US, and have spread into the UK. Being a huge fan of Sprinkles cupcakes based in LA, and baker myself, I am quite particular with baked goods. Cupcake is a wee little shop in Merchant City specializing in cupcakes, of course. It’s exterior is quite plain and white, as is the inside. There was a limited selection of cupcakes on display the day I went in. The shop décor is quite unimaginative in comparison to their portfolio of cupcakes and cakes they’re capable of designing. I asked if they had any chocolate cupcakes, but all they had were vanilla. So I decided to pick up a couple for Lumberjack as a wee surprise. The staff was nice enough, and wrapped up the cupcakes in individual boxes. They were just under £2 each. Overall, I’m not too keen on artificially coloured cakes, and I’m not really into fondant designs that make cupcakes look like characters, etc. I like it simple and sweet, but definitely pretty and appetizing. Maybe that’s why I’m such a big fan of Sprinkles’ minimalist aesthetic. The cake itself was ok, borderline dry; and the frosting made me feel like my teeth were rotting away each bite I took, it was SO sugary. Bottom line: limited in-store selection, meh shop design, and cupcakes priced in and around £2

This cake shop is cute as a button, from the sign on the door to the delicious cupcakes. They have every kind of cupcake you could ever imagine here, including novelty ones including 99 cupcakes complete with flake, Big Bird and The Cookie Monster, I’ve added a picture of the Cookie Monster I devoured, he was delicious. You can even get personal messages or photos put onto the cupcakes here so you can tailor it to suit anyone. They also cater for big groups, parties and wedding and have a delivery service, as long as you give them at least 24 hours notice. Such a cute shop!

I couldn’t help but wander in here today as I passed by, drawn in by the pretty cakes piled up in the window and the sweet scent wafting out of the door. This gorgeous little shop specialises in baking cakes of all kinds for everything from birthdays to simply binging. There are lots of lovely things all around this white wooden wonderland, including little chocolates wrapped in tiny vintage umbrellas, and tins of sweets and candies that make great gifts for girlies. I may have to leave a catalogue from this place lying around the flat, so that my other half may treat me to a marvellously mouthwatering cake for my upcoming birthday…

Cupcakes seem to be quite fashionable at the minute, so this little shop has sprung up at just the right time, complete with semi-ironic retro styling and a permeating, pink fluffy vibe. What these people can do with a cake is pretty impressive. As well as the ornate efforts in the windows, they have a book showcasing their full range, with giant wedding cakes and cartoon character themed cakes for brats’ birthday parties. These come at quite a price, with £50 for a birthday cake being not unusual, but the level of craft and creativity that goes into them is second to none. On my visit I bought Ebot a little cookie monster cupcake which was cute enough to melt even my stone-cold, cynical heart. They even made it fresh there and then, rather than giving me one from the window. To be honest, I thought the blue icing would be pretty revolting to taste, and I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable devouring one of the cookie monster’s eyeballs, but she seemed to like it, and I think the actual taste was less important than the craftsmanship and cute factor in this case anyway. It was only £1.80 as well. A great little shop all round.

Who could walk past a shop that has pretty little cupcakes in the window? Or a giant Elmo-shaped cake in the window?! No-one. And neither could I. AND not only that, but when you peer in past the amazing window displays(if you can look past them — trust me, it’s worth it), you notice that the shop is so retro-cute, and filled with different cupcakes, each hand-decorated with different icing patterns, stars, glitter, etc — there’s even proper big cakes sitting on the side(my word — the fairytale wedding cake… !). They don’t just look good, they taste good! But watch out, they do come at a price(completely worth it for some of the best cake in Glasgow though, me thinks — Cupcakes start at 80p for a mini and go up to £3 for personal messages and photographs — how cool is that?! Imagine eating a face-cupcake. Haaaa!). They also sell retro sweets from massive jars, but they’re just a sideline to ALLTHATCAKE! Mmm… As a massive fan of cake(yum yum yum) I think I can safely say that this place is definitely caketastic, whether you design your own, or just pop in to buy one. A definite must if you’re in the Merchant City.
