I’d been searching for a bike for some time. I knew what I wanted — a ladies’ frame hybrid, with hydraulic disc brakes, suspension, and the space to fit mudguards and panniers. I didn’t think this was asking for the moon really, but according to what was available in other Glasgow bike shops, it seemed that this was a big ask, without spending a fortune. That was, until we went to Dales. Dales are fantastic! They have a huge range of bikes, and we spotted one straight away that seemed as though it might be ideal. We were very quickly helped by Lynsday. She established exactly what I was looking for, what sort of cycling I’d be doing, and what sort of price range I had budgeted for. Lyndsay was clearly a bike enthusiastic, and knew her bike stuff inside out — we were very impressed at her knowledge, and her friendly and helpful manner. Once she’d established that our chosen bike was the right size, she let me go for a test ride. It was pouring with rain, so Lyndsay and Simon very sensibly stayed inside while I hurtled up and down the street for a very quick test ride. I didn’t need any longer though — as soon as I got on the bike, I knew it was the one for me. Once we’d made the decision to buy, Lyndsay continued to be super helpful. She showed us mudguards, with more detail than I could have thought possible about mudguards, and the various pannier racks and pannier bags. We didn’t feel hurried at any point, even though the shop was very busy, and were very happy with the options we chose. When I returned to collect my bike(they were building me a fresh out the box one and fixing on the various bits), Lynsday was there again to help, making sure I was totally happy and comfortable on the bike before riding it off into the sunset(rain). I’ll be taking my new bike back to Dales for its 2 month service when it’s due, and Simon was so impressed with the service that we received, that he’ll be taking his bike in for a service too. The whole process of choosing, testing and buying a bike at Dales was very easy and actually enjoyable. I would recommend Dales first time every time to anyone looking to buy a bike.

A number of years back I bought a Speciaized Rockhopper in a sale at Dales Glasgow shop, I had tried the bike before the sale and noticed no problems with the chainsets going uphill. During the sale I selected the bike and had a look at other equipment while the bike was supposedly taken to the work shop for a check up, after taking it home I had problems with the gears I had to take it back for adjustment when it had been fine when I tried it out before the sale, the chain kept comong off uphill and the whole chainset had probably been changed for something that was worn out. At that time I was new to mountain bikes and did not realize what had been done or what to look for till later, I wouldn’t trust Dales again.

I like Dales. It’s got a good selection of clothing, components and, of course, bikes! Although I haven’t(yet) bought a bike from here, when I phoned up to chat about it the staff were very helpful and they are quite happy for you to test ride bikes before buying them(invaluable IMHO, especially if you are planning on buying an expensive bike — you are only allowed to take them out on the streets if it’s a good weather day though, which is fair enough!). There’s a dedicated customer car park which is hugely helpful if you are purchasing a bike or taking it in to get serviced.

Poor selection of bikes across all price ranges(not everyone has a small fortune to spend), and what they do have can be found elsewhere significantly cheaper. They need to move with the times and be competitive. @hatchet, I think you ought to shut up and take note of the fact that your opinion is in the minority here or haven’t you noticed there are more negative reviews than positive? You say a person shouldn’t be put off because of a single bad experience, well let me ask this, if you bought a car whose engine blew up after a few weeks would you buy another car from that dealer? First impressions last, or maybe is it just that because you like them everyone else must have to as well? Don’t forget to be first in the queue for the I. Q check, moron.

My card was charge an additional £15 after buying online, I contacted the store to query this and they assured I had been wrongly charged for their ‘Free Shipping’ and it would be refunded. I contacted the store again and have followed up with several emails but still no response, Ignorance of your customers isn’t a great business tactic.

Very poor stock and customer service. they’re more than happy to take your money but when it comes to receiving something in return nobody wanted to know about it. I waited nearly a month for my bike to arrive. Do not recommend.

To summarize I received a bike that must have been built by a bunch of hyenas, shipped it back(at my own expense) and eventually got a refund for the value of the bike. In all Dales Cycles is a cowboy operation that’s left me out of pocket but will make me exercise more caution when buying online in the future.

Nice top end bikes in stock, but there is too many fashion victim bikes for sale. They could do with a better range of parts in stock. As for their prices, well of the last two parts i wanted to repair/upgrade my bike i found them over 25% cheaper else where. When asked to order 2 tyres i was told it may take a week or 2 arrive, i went else where and have done so since.

great bike shop at the top of the town — a wee bit out of the town centre but not that far. this means it has the benefit of having a big showroom and loads of bikes and accessories out on show. there is something for the casual mountain bikers as well as tourers, roadies and hardcore mountain bikers. loads of clothes, books, DVDs as well. they guys in the shop are helpful and willing to spend time with you to make sure you get the right bike and that it fits

Dales is a really good cycle shop. They have an enormous selection of road, monutain and hybrid bikes. There is also a good selection of children’s bikes. They have a great choice of safety gear and clothing and really anything bike related that you might need. The prices are usually pretty competitive and there are regular sales throughout the year. They often sell off ex demonstrator bikes at really good prices — a bargain considering these bikes have hardly been ridden. The staff are really friendly and helpful and really know their stuff. The workshop is really really good and this is the only place that have serviced my bike properly. There is a good choice of different standards of service and the staff are happy to recommend what’s best for you without neccessarily encouraging you to spend more money.
