I’ve been here once for lunch after hearing very good things and I have to say some parts of it I loved, and others I didn’t enjoy. The layout to the venue is quite open, with lots of tables and space. There’s also a more quiet dining area up the back where I was seated. I had the burger with cheese which was generally nice, though the burger itself was lacking some seasoning, all in all it was okay. I had a cake after and wasn’t dissapointed, the cakes here are outstanding. Had a peanut butter and chocolate cake, was very tasty. The one major drawback I have to coming back is the service. Though the servers were generally friendly, the speed of the service was very poor. It took a long time to get anything, or anyone’s attention. This said it was a busy Saturday but I’d still expect it to be quicker.

I used to go there for a weekend breakfast when ever I could ! Love their environment, lovely staff, and delicious foods. I tried the veg breakfast, French toast and the granola! All were great! But I do love the granola for a healthy choice and for now it is my fav choice! Their coffee used to be nice, but last time I notice they changed their beans! Or the way they made it ! Found it just as an average coffee! But previously I really loved their coffee! Will always go there if I have time, and will take my friends & family with me as well for a breakfast !

Great girlie lunch today. Started with Prosecco then Shared a meat platter leaving us room(or the excuse) for coffee and fantastic cakes from their bakery range for dessert– Lovely! Great service, busy as we hadn’t booked but only had to wait 15 minutes and were well attended during this time!

I’ve sat in twice now for breakfast. I ordered the same thing and it came very quickly and the waitresses were attentive. I absolutely love their granola/yogurt/honey. It has fresh fruit in it and it’s soooo good. The lattes are good too-not the best I’ve ever had but good. They come with a delicious brownie bite. A bit too decadent for me but I did try it-really excellent. If you have a child the toys are a bit young for even preschoolers. I can’t be completely sure of the excellence of their food till I try their warm breakfast menu but it will be hard to pass up that delicious granola.

Arranged to meet a friend for coffee after the gym and was worried I would be too casual as looked quite fancy in a west end, hipster rustic kinda way: p We were seated quickly and was lured in by the homemade soup which was delicious. However I did get a bit of food envy as the breakfast brunches were being delivered to the table beside me. Hoping to try out this place properly in the next few weeks as was very impressed. However I deducted a star for the speed the waitress took our order, I want a skinny latte but waitress just heard latte and didn’t wait for me to find out the milk options, as would have opted for soy.

So, we dropped in here for brunch of a weekend. I’d heard such good things and wanted to try it for myself, and having just been paid it seemed like a perfect opportunity. The place was packed. Absolutely rammed, but we were happy to sit in the window and eat so it was fine. This is clearly a place beloved of the Hyndland parental massif. There’s a box of kids’ toys in the corner, and there were a few prams scattered about. Service was fine, if a little stressed — but to be fair, the place was really busy. We ordered a pot of tea, coffee, and two eggs benedict. Which was… well fine I suppose. The eggs were ok, the hollandaise was alright, the muffins not toasted properly. Bit disappointing, considering that it wasn’t cheap. Tea was good, and the milk came in a wee novelty wotsit. So yeah, it’s ok, but I’m not rushing back.

Epicures of Hyndland is the first restaurant I ate in when I moved to Glasgow, so this review is a bit overdue! It was a cold, dark evening in Glasgow and I was starving after traveling quite a distance, and their Wild Mushroom Risotto came to my rescue. From the street side Epicures is very inviting with its glass walls, ambient lighting and lit-up tree as the centrepiece of the restaurant. They have charming staff and the restaurant in general seems to set a good tone. It is always busy, not sure I would call it lively. It is a great place for a cocktail with good ambiance, could be romantic or just catching up with a friend. The food changes seasonally, and they usually have some specials that they are trying out, which end up on the next season’s menu. Definitely don’t expect to see the same menu all the time at Epicures. Some things are better than others, but I appreciate their adventurous dishes and the use of seasonal ingredients! The baked goods are quite impressive and made fresh daily. If you get to meet the baker, she is a good laugh. I think the desserts and breakfast pastries are my favourite thing about Epicures. The mornings I pass through, their coffee also never disappoints me; the hard part is trying not to make a habit out of those fresh, sugary, buttery pastries.

I want to give this place more stars but I just can’t. Hopefully today was an off day. Mum and I were meeting a family friend for some coffee/nibbles. As it was a gorgeous morning, we decided to sit outside. We quickly got given our menus, but asked to wait until our friend arrived. When our friend did arrived we all ordered coffees. About 10 mintues later our food order got taken, which was just one chocolate croissant. At this point I noticed our exact coffee order being taken to another table, who had sat down and ordered far later than us(in fairness, they may have been inside and I may be jumping to conclusions.) My friends croissant then arrived, and I said we were still waiting for coffees. The waiter said they were just having a slow day… Hmm, on the one hand I get it, it’s brunch, it’s busy, but equally it’s brunch, have more coffee machines?! When our coffee did arrive, it was lovely and came with a tiny brownie nibble. Our second round of coffees took just as long. I then went inside and waited awkwardly at the bar to ask for the bill. The bill took a good 5 minutes to come. The food looked great and hopefully my next review will be with a higher starred rating!

Really tasteful atmosphere, friendly service, many lovely touches, good coffee. Only thing they could improve on is the cakes themselves, which look gorgeous, sound delicious from the names, and I’m guessing pure, quality ingredients, but in my opinion didn’t quite live up to the expectation that created. A little dry, I like my own cakes better!

Quite surprised that this place currently has 3.5 stars as it’s wonderful and never fails to deliver something delicious. Epicures is quite big and serves as both a café, a bar and a restaurant. I love how bright and sunny it is in here and on a warm day the outdoor seating area is perfect. They always have a stunning display of cakes on the bar which is the first thing you spot when you walk in. They have an extensive menu from light lunches to evening meals. Everything is beautifully presented and I’ve always enjoyed the food I’ve had here. It gets really busy on weekends so it’s best to book a table if you don’t want to queue.

I must confess that I have developed a slight love affair with Epicures since being on maternity leave. I’ve done what I promised myself I would never do and have joined the brigade of West End mummies who lunch! I blame Epicures and it’s tremendously wonderful cakes entirely.(As do my pre-pregnancy clothes that remain at the bottom of the wardrobe!) It’s a popular spot in the centre of Hyndland and booking is usually advisable. Mid-week we often get a table and take advantage of their special weekday offer of soup, a sandwich, a cake and a coffee for £10.95. It’s a pretty significant saving compared to the price of buying all those items individually. The soup changes daily and is always on the right side of yummy. It was carrot and coriander at my most recent visit but they have slightly more unusual offerings at times. There are 3 accompanying sandwiches to choose from — pastrami on rye, crayfish and baby gem lettuce and a tomatoe and mozzarella combo on toast. All good so far but then the cakes come along and knock everything else out of the park! I’ve been in Epicures more times than I care to admit and every time I visit there is a different array of cakes and sweet treats greeting you as you walk through the door. From mountainous meringues to coconut and raspberry lamingtons(a NZ speciality — look it up!) to caramel éclair cake(with actual cadburys eclairs on top) to vanilla berry cheesecakes and everything in between. It is actually torturous to choose! Part of the Epicures experience for me is going up to the counter and gazing longingly at the cakes, making my decision. Yesterday’s cake was quite possibly the best yet. A squidgy mint chocolate layer cake complete with minty green frosting and mint aero pieces adorning the top. Seeing is believing! The ridiculous part is(and I mean ‘ridiculous’ in a good way), that each slab of cake is served with a big dollop of cream, fruit coullis and a token portion of strawberries and blueberries(I continue to convince myself that the fruit counteracts the cream!) To top it off, you even get a complementary square of chocolate brownie with each hot drink — and, yes, it’s so good that I always polish that off as well. Well, it’d be rude not to! The ambience is nice(candlelit, lots of wood), the staff are friendly on the whole(there’s one miserable waitress who always seems to argue the bill!) and the rest of the menu looks pretty good and fairly reasonable too. Oh, and did I mention the cakes are AMAZING?!

In my never-ending quest for finding THE best place for Brunch we wandered into this lovely place one Saturday late morning and also again a few weeks later one Sunday early afternoon. This café/restaurant is a lot bigger than I first expected it to be as there is more seating at the very back, up the stairs. This is where we were first seated and it was a nice, cosy wee table we had besides lots of cool mirrors on the wall. This place gets BUSY at the weekends, so be prepared to wait a wee while for a table, especially if dining at peak eating hours. Luckily we only had a short wait on both occasions; the 2nd occasion a couple hadn’t arrived for their reserved table(they were nearly 20 mins late) so thankfully the manager(?) seated us at their table, which I thought was nice of her. On our first visit I had a soya latte(cappuccino on 2nd visit) with poached eggs & smokey bacon on brown toast. Everything was really delicious and made/cooked perfectly. Afterwards I had a MASSIVE piece of raspberry & white chocolate cake which came with fresh cream, berries & coulis. Woah. It was nice but WAY too big for even me to finish! Yowsers. On our second visit as it was a Sunday the menu was slightly reduced compared to the Saturday so I couldn’t have my yummy poached eggs with bacon on toast again so instead I went for the nearest thing, the Eggs Benedict. My boyfriend also had this(on both occasions, as he is an Eggs Benny FIEND!) and we both agreed it was really good, I liked the addition of rocket to it and I much preferred the Hollandaise sauce compared to other places(it wasn’t as thick/creamy) that sell EB but my boyfriend thought it wasn’t as good. I must also note that alongside your(very nice indeed) coffee you get a tiny wee square of really tasty, moist chocolate brownie, mmmm… nice touch! I really like the décor and feel about this place. It’s not half as posh/snobby as I first thought it might be which is obviously a GOOD thing as I feel as though I can’t ever really relax in places like that. The staff here were all really efficient, helpful & friendly without being too in-your-face. Service is also pretty quick but not TOO(suspiciously) quick. Another thing I can’t stand about eating places is feeling rushed… even though this place is very popular & gets very busy we never once felt rushed. I definitely will come back here not just for brunch again but also to try their lunch or evening menus. They have a great set menu(5−7pm) which is £12 for 2 courses or £15 for 3. The dishes available sounds really good & I’ve seen this place lit up at night time and it looks so pretty with all the wee fairy lights. As we were leaving the table beside us had ordered a Blueberry & Frangipane tart thing & it looked immense! If they have that on their menu next time I will most certainly be ordering that. NOM. So in the words of Arnie; I’ll be back…

Been here loads of times for coffee and the cafetière for 2 is great value. Had the breakfast today which is the most expensive item on the breakfast menu so I expected great things! It tasted good but the tattie scone had been deep fried which I personally don’t like and the portion size was small for the price you pay. I expected to have more than 1 small, poached egg, mushroom, tomato and piece of toast. The eggs benedict that my wife had was lovely and cooked perfectly. Will be back for the coffee and eggs which on there own get 5 stars!!!

This place is very close to being the perfect buzzy neighbourhood bistro on my doorstep. It has a busy, chattery buzz about it and an easy confidence that comes from the knowledge that it is serving top quality fare. I have nibbled on tapas-y plates over wine with my parents, popped in for an afternoon coffee and a cake with friends and crawled in for a hungover brunch with no company other than a big fat Sunday newspaper. It has been a perfect venue for each, which is really saying something — this place wears several different hats all at once. On each occasion, the food has been excellent. It is a big airy space of the floor-to-ceiling-windows, bare brick walls, double-height ceilings and chunky wooden furniture variety. There’s a large ground floor area with a smaller mezzanine level towards the back. Try to get a seat downstairs because with the open kitchen downstairs, and a penchant for chargrilled meats, the mezzanine can get a bit hot and thick with greasy cooking smells. There’s a wee terrace in the pavement up the side which is bathed in sun on a beautiful morning but you’ve got to get there before the sun is even up to get a seat there. This place is always, ALWAYS, busy. Stacked to the barstools at the counter with the wealthy Waitrose Set. There’s a lot of money in this clientele. This probably explains some of the pricing. As I said, the food is excellent but I’m knocking off a couple of points because it is quite expensive for what is, essentially, a noisy café/bistro(prices are more akin to a more formal restaurant) and because service can be slow and clunky(I eventually had to go off in search of cutlery myself on my last visit). It’s a nice place but I do always find myself distracted from my food(I don’t like to be distracted from my food!) by an internal monologue, debating whether the quality of what I’m eating justifies it’s price, or whether I am in fact being ripped off. I still don’t have the answer to that question, and I’ve eaten here several times now. In light of that, I think I will have to continue the search elsewhere for my perfect, buzzy, neighbourhood bistro as Epicures isn’t *quite* it.

The best bacon roll in the West End and an ideal place if you are on your own and enjoy a bit of people watching. Soft white roll with plenty of butter with ¾ slices of bacon. As a big fan of bacon rolls I think its the best I have eaten till date. The price is typically west end and costs £2.50 a roll.

Located slap bang in the middle of cool Hyndland Road Epicures is a mecca of West End cool — as soon as you walk in the front door you are presented with a large enticing display of cakes and sweet treats, at this point I was ready to forego brunch and jump straight to dessert! Thankfully I resisted! The décor is a wooden meets industial wonderland, there is a tree sprouting in the middle of the lower dining area and foliage climbing the industrial style columns. There is wooden floors, walls, tables, chairs, booths… you name it and it was wood. My favourite feature was the tons of natural day light pouring in through the huge windows which wrap around the front of the building. I liked it — very chic and casual, perfect for brunch. We were shown to our table, thankfully I thought to reserve because it was jumping. I would say if you want to make a special trip here definitely book in advance. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. My only slight irk was that there were 3 errors with our order — we were given a poached egg when a fried egg was ordered(but the fried egg arrived about a minute later) we were given Jam when nutella was asked for(this was fixed promptly) and we asked for a full breakfast without the egg but it arrived on the plate(we just moved it to a spare plate, no biggie) I am pretty sure the errors came from the kitchen rather than the waitress, this is to expected as the place was heaving and they are just trying to get food out fast. It didn’t detract from our experience but I thought it was worth a mention. I could have happily eaten absolutely everything on the brunch menu but in the end chose the Eggs Benedict — smoked back bacon, 2 poached eggs, rockets, creamy Hollandaise served on a toasted English muffin. Our food arrived about 5 minutes after we ordered it which was pretty impressive as we thought we would have a reasonable wait. There was heaps of tasty thick back bacon, I would have liked it a little more charred for my personal taste but it was perfectly delicious. 1 of the eggs was gloriously runny and the other was ‘just’ slightly over cooked, I am pretty confident that the Hollandaise was made freshly in-house as it was utterly beautiful and creamy. A gorgeous dish which I would happily order again. Obviously after walking past all of those made in-house beautiful cakes there was no way I was leaving without trying something, my niece and I were just about to have a wander down to the counter to decided what we wanted when the waitress produced a cake board… I know… a cake board… tis’ the stuff of dreams. Only because it is my birthday my niece and I decided to get a warm brownie to share because it sounded so good then order another one each, decadent but give me a break it’s very difficult turning 24(again!) For my individual cake I went for the pecan pie which was scrumptious. It was presented beautifully with a raspberry coulis, clotted cream and practically a whole bushel of fresh raspberries. Pecan pie is one of my personal favourites and this certainly sits up there with some of the best I have ever had. The brownie was nice and dry on the outside and luscious and gooey on the inside. I would definitely recommend both. A fantastic brunch for my birthday and I would definitely go back for food again — as long as I have a table booked.

I was visiting here for a meeting and was impressed by the layout — there’s a nice open dining area as you first walk in with a long bar, and then a more intimate dining area up the top of the stairs. We were seated in a booth which was pretty comfortable and meant we could get on with our meeting without being disturbed. I had a quick look at the menu and not very much took my fancy, so I opted for the soup of the day(white onion and fennel). It came with a piece of bread and was around the £3 mark so thought that was pretty reasonable. It definitely tasted like fennel and was well seasoned, but mostly unremarkable. The bread was nice and fresh though. What was really a let down was the service. For the amount of time I was there(more than 2 hours, closer to 3) we were rarely checked up on for more drinks, tea or coffee and getting the bill seemed to take quite a while for no obvious reason. I was left with a pretty«meh» feeling, but they earned the upgrade to 3 stars purely for the acceptable soup at a reasonable price.

Consistently good, Epicures is close to my flat so handy for a quick coffee or, as it was today, a spot of brunch. Somehow we managed to get a table for two, never easy between 12 and 2 on a Sunday! First things first, yes, this is in the West End and yes it is a little overpriced comparing it to other nearby eateries, but I’m pretty sure the clientele are well aware of this! The service is ok, always friendly and welcoming and as ever the food was good. I ordered Eggs Benedict, which came with two perfectly poached eggs, some delicious smoked bacon and a good(if a little too tart) Hollandaise, the dish was simple but delicious. My partner ordered the French Toast with nice crispy bacon and swapped her maple syrup for some Hollandaise as we well. Food-wise my only complaint was of my own making, I must remember and ask for bacon to be crispy! Aside from that it was all very tasty and disappeared quickly. A couple of glasses of fresh orange rounded off the order(in total it was £16, not too bad for brunch for two people, is it?). I do like this place, it’s well laid out, the home baking(which we didn’t sample today) is consistently good, the décor is warm and inviting, and did I mention it’s close to my flat? Consistently good is how I opened my review and it sums up Epicures for me. Never outstanding, but consistently good.

I’m a big fan of Epicures and it’s always busy(I only live round the corner) so they are clearly doing something right! We often pop in for coffee and share the cafetiere for 2, less than £4 for two cups of coffee each, which is served with a lovely mouthfull of chewy brownie. The food is good and although not cheap I don’t think it’s overly expensive either. The ploughman’s lunch is delicious and the pasta dishes in the evening are very good.
