Hallfords is the real deal! My uncle often hangs around this antiques professional dealers for the best buys which he can then sell on. Although do not be mistaken, there is no junk here, it is not a store that houses any old second hand hand me downs. They seem to be quite selective about what they do have on offer, and when you do enquire into items for sale you are sure to get a good educated answer from someone who knows their stuff. And yes, to come here you really should know your stuff, it is absolutely essential to purchase sensibly by knowing your stuff before you go.

As the past two reviews have said, this shop definitely specialises in quality antiques — you won’t find any second hand knock-offs in here! Instead, the shop offers a wide selection of expensive plates, chairs, tables and lavish ornament all of a high-end nature. Think more«Antiques Roadshow» than«Bargain Hunt». Great for collectors and antique sellers, the shop owner seemed well educated on antiques when I visited, but she still let me have a look without probing me about why I was in there. I chatted to her a bit about a chair and she was very helpful even though it was probably evident I couldn’t afford it! Most stock in this shop is quite expensive but the antiques are very grandiose and in like-new condition — they’d be mint if you were going to auction them off, and they all seem to have a stately history. The majority of the items are labelled with the era they were manufactured in which is immensely helpful for a collector, but aside from being informative for people specifically in this arena it’s helpful for someone like me who is interested in the origins but not particularly educated in the field. Saying that, I know what I like and I like what I see, so that’s enough for me! Last time I took a stroll past Hallford’s I saw the world’s largest vase in the window — some of the antiques are a sight in themselves! just be careful you don’t bash anything with your bags because you’ll feel like you’re walking on egg shells trying not to break something!

Hallford Antiques is a really classy antique shop on Dumbarton Road. It’s definitely a grown up antique shop, you won’t find any tacky or kitsch retro items here. Instead you’re more likely to come across art deco pieces, good solid oak furniture and artwork.(Although they did have some wooden giraffes in there last time I had a look). They have a wide selection of ornaments, mirrors and sculptures — and I honestly could fall in love with almost everthing in the shop. Filled with glass cases and silence, you do feel a little on edge in Hallford Antiques in case you cause an antique landslide. The lady behind the counter was polite but austere, and I did feel like I was a little out of my comfort zone — especially because it’s far too expensive for me to have even contemplated buying anything…
