The Inn on the Stroud(or as I prefer ‘The Stroud’) is a cosy wee local gastro pub in the Greenhills area of East Kilbride(literally five minutes from my house). It has a bar area for pool and watching football and an adjacent family friendly restaurant, which me, the wife, the sister and husband and parents visited on Saturday night(20÷12÷14). The Stroud doesn’t do parties of any kind but had allowed for an 18th birthday dinner so the place was fairly packed and had a good number of sugar crazed brats playing tig(or tag) on the floor. Thankfully we got a booth and were spared the thick of it. New menus were on display, which must have been recent, replacing the horrible old stained polypocket efforts. The choices were much the same but trimmed back and refined; all following a standard British gastro pub model with a few ‘American’ style offerings. I duly picked the US of A burger(bacon, cheese, hash browns, onion rings and BBQ sauce) with chips. It was a good effort, nice meat, proper dose of melted cheese but perhaps I am spoiled by the burgers of the city centre now as it didn’t quite match up to Bread Meats Bread etc. One thing you can’t argue about with EK pubs is bar prices. Granted I was on the Tennents but your money goes so much farther outside Glasgow. The Stroud is a nice wee place for a lunch or early dinner or to watch the football. They don’t do evening entertainment in the way of bands, which is a shame as I’d definitely visit more. I also don’t like having to order food at the bar. For me, I don’t mind the extra ive minutes taking the car to The Gardenhall Inn and with added competition from the Oyster Catcher just opened, the Stroud will have to up its game.

Came here for a quick beer and to check the place out, as it’s got a decent number of tables outside which might make it a good location for an al fresco beer come good weather. The pub itself is quite big, but not cavernous so it feels warm and welcoming. There’s nothing special drinks-wise however the Guinness I had was really good. They serve food, but it’s a pretty standard menu and I would say slightly dear for where it is and the expected standard of food. If you love local then it’s definitely worth checking out, otherwise I wouldn’t make much of a journey.

Another randoe location for a pub in EK. Look like an old style place outside, no idea how long been here. Had nice stained glass windows on the ceiling inside. Big inside with long wooden bar. Standard selection of beer and cider. Staff seemed friendly enough. It was really quiet so not sure of the clientele. There is a separate bar and lounge. There is a pool table in the bar. We never tried the food but again, it looked like standard pub fayre. They do a burger challenge(photo attached). It seems quite expensive at £17.95 for the burger, and all you get is your photo on the app! Will go back and try the food and see what it is like when busy.

It may not be gourmet but the portions are massive and the prices fit for the most penurious of punters(like the alliteration there I am making an effort!!! lol) — the nachos are awesome and the staff are an absolute joy — friendly, chatty and happy to serve even the most difficult of punter with a smile and a hey nonny noo — what more could a punter want. Location is great — you can go to the local woods for a jump on the rope swing if yer feeling frisky(although I would do it afore yer meal — lesson learned there ahem!!!) and the parking is easy as pie. Every meal I have had there has not disappointed and thats unusual for me as I am a fussy bugr who likes man size portions for ma big beelly!!! May not fit in with the Newton Mearns crowd but full of genuinely nice people — Well so is the whole of East Kilbride — I love the place and its down to earth folks and thats what you will get if you go here — no pretentions, no poncy hoity toity waiters that couldnt give a toss about customer service, just plain old tasty nosh with no airs anbd graces and thats whats important — well to me anyway but then I am a bit of a strange man so they say but what do they know eh!!! One slight warning however and I dont know how true it is but my ex boss who lives there tells me if you go on a Saturday night be sure and pack the knuckle dusters and a chib for good measure — I am sure its not true but always best be prepared is my motto. The food may not be up to Devonshire gardens standard but it fills a big hole and doesnt empty your pocket either — very important for us the great unwashed in these times of hardship and toil. Go there have a laugh and enjoy the night you wont be disappointed if your aspirations in a culinary manner are not too lofty — well unless you are from Newton Mearns or Bearsden /Milngavie area — In that case you would be better sloping off to the posh nobs gaff on the Ayr road next to the Lloyds Tsb — Exorbitant prices, terrible food and miniscule portions — just be sure to take your magnifying glass and a credit card with a high rate limit.
