We went to quite a few of these«old man pubs» in Glasgow, but this one was the best. Nicely restored, great wooden feel, historically unique stained glass, epic bathrooms. Great selection of whiskey and ales. Like the rest of the pubs in the West End, it was extremely affordable. A pint ran a simple $ 2.50US!

Why do I like the Lismore. Love the atmosphere and décor. It’s s real genuine bar in the heart of the West end. It’s not trendy or hipster but you find people from all walks of life here and all ages . I remember visiting at 4 pm on a Friday afternoon and thinking this is so decadent, I should be working. However I was in good company as the bar was full of people also thinking so glad it is the start of the weekend . It has the most wonderful gantry of over 100 whiskies from the most rare to everyday blends. Sadly I don, t like whisky which is sacrilege I know, but the staff are knowledgeable and many a Transatlantic visitor finds there way here on a recommendation I am sure . The beer is pretty good here too, Ipa is on draught as is others, so pretty much ticks all boxes . Don, t miss the description in the toilets of the highland clearances. It’s history . Many a musician wends their way to here and can be found playing live music regularly . There is outside sitting in the summer looking on to Mansfield Park.

More Gaelic than most of my locals, Lios Mor is a quaint establishment that delivered lovely local beer, and spirits, at reasonable prices. Between the staff, who were speedy and efficient, and the regulars, who were pleasant and chatty, there was a great buzz and atmosphere on the Thursday night when we popped in for a few half and halves. While sipping my brew, a local promised me that, between this place and the pub across the way, this is a great area to visit to listen to skilled musicians play. Without a doubt, I’ll be back; Lios Mor was my favourite watering hole on my trip to Glasgow, and trust me, I undertook extensive research. *hic*

This is my favourite pub in my hood. The bartenders are great and always remember me… LOL not sure that is a good or a bad thing ;) This is a traditional Scottish pub with lots of wood, rows of liquor, stained glass windows, and well, just look at the name. Lois Mor always has a good mix of patrons, and a friendly bunch at that I have spied more than a few handsome gentleman in here sipping whiskey. Speaking of whiskey, they have quite the collection! You can go reasonable, expensive, exotic… whatever, they have options, HUNDREDS of options! This venue also has music once in a while, and usually quite talented bands as well. But be aware, it can get packed when there is live music. The bar is quite narrow, so expect tight quarters when it is busy. Generally though, there is plenty of seating and quiet nooks too converse with company. Or you can prop up at the bar, if you are feeling more sociable. There is a reason the Lios Mor has been published more than a few times on various ‘Best pubs in Glasgow’ lists!

I love this pub; Staff are always friendly, there’s always a nice vibe, and it gets even better with live music(actually, it’d be great if they had sessions here more often). They also have some great draught beers, and always a nice malt of the month on.

In all the years I’ve lived in the West End, I’ve never been into the Lismore, despite glowing recommendations from more pub-frequenting friends. However, in search of a ‘wee deoch & dorus’ to bid farewell to a Stateside chum on her departure, we popped in here to sample their famous whisky selection. The front bar seemed a little crowded and there was a band setting up in the corner, so we fought our way through to the back bar, which has a much nicer ambience. The whole place was redecorated a few years back, and I really liked the interior décor, complete with wood, stained glass, funky artwork and designer fetishes hanging on the wall. It looks like they are trying to attract a younger, hipper clientèle but clearly this approach has not been entirely successful as the majority of customers seemed to be older male locals, thus bolstering its reputation as an old man’s pub. However, everyone was very friendly and the barkeeper was helpful as we were choosing our tipples from the almost overwhelming selection of malts. Great to see different age selections within each brand too. We would probably have stayed longer, but it became difficult to have a conversation when the band started up, so we headed out to pastures new. The prices are very reasonable indeed, and if you are looking for a place to introduce somebody to the delights of the amber nectar, I can think of nowhere better.

We met here on Saturday night for Birthday drinks for my Son, Cavey to his friends the boy child to his Sis & I. It was very busy but after buying a drink we managed to find an area to stand and eventually some stools and a table, there were 18 of us a big partyit was not a problem. There was a great atmosphere, everybody was very friendly and the bar staff very quick and effiecient and cleared the tables & shelves regularly, the bar was very well stocked with plenty of variety of beers on draught & in bottles. A good night was had by all.

Always enjoy a drink in the Lios Mor :) Drinks are reasonably priced and there’s always a great selection of beers, ales and whisky for the thirsty! The live music is always of a high quality, my only(small) issue is that I wish it were a little bigger and had more room to move around. But that’s just because it’s so good I wish I could bring more folk in: P

Admittedly when I arrived here I was a little under the influence. From what I can recall thought I really liked this place. It was quite busy but once you pushed past the people that had been caught up around the door area, you were able to find some room to manouver. The pub did seem small but then I noticed the bit added on which has a couple of steps and it leads you to another bar. They had a band on in the pub. All the band members seemed squished into a corner but it was cool. Like they had just arrived for a jam session. Couldnt hear much of what they played but it added to the atmosphere. Price wise I cannot recall much but I was just happy to order myself some vodka. After having a meal and a couple of pints I was close to a surprise nap. The vodka got me back up to speed. At the bar it was nice to look at all the Whisky they had on offer. Quite enjoy looking at and reading all the fancy and different bottles. Would happily venture back to this place. Nice old mans sort of pub but you also get a little mixed variety of punters.

The Lismore is a damn fine place. I could end the review there, and it would be accurate. It wouldn’t be very long, or interesting, but you get the point. It’s one of the more unique looking pubs in the West End, if not the whole of Glasgow, with it’s wood and stained glass windows. It’s an effect that really does make you stop and draw breath the first time you step through the doors into the well appointed bar area. The range of whisky and whiskey available is almost on a par with the mighty Pot Still, and the ales on tap are cold, crisp and obviously well maintained. I will argue forth with anyone that the best pint of Deuchars in Glasgow can be found on these fine premises. The punters always seem to be up for a wee natter at the bar, and the staff are pleasant and helpful at all times. It’s a wee gem on the Dumbarton Road, just roon the corner from the Kelvin Hall subway station and worth a visit

Dumbarton Road has many, many pubs — but it’s quantity over quality for this thoroughfare in my opinion. The Lismore is an exception to the rule. A good-sized pub with a fantastic range of malts and good cask ales is always a good starting point for me and The Lismore caters to these tastes with aplomb. The décor is nice and feels traditional, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly and the clientele is a welcome departure from the rougher pubs on Dumbarton Road and the overly trendy West End bars. Add in to the mix the live music and this pub’s got the traditional Scottish thing down to a t. A great place to sample malts, ales, atmosphere and music!

I never thought I’d love a pub that my strange former English teacher regularly drinks in, nor would I ever have thought that I would comment that he is clearly a man of exceptional taste(his choice of ‘literature’ when he taught me in second year at high school did nothing for a wee bookish ‘gimmie more BOOKS’-type nerd like me), but there you have it. Well done, sir. I believe this bar has won awards for its whisky selection, and there’s no doubt why it has. I like whisky(I think, subconsciously, drinking it might make me think I’m in The Sopranos), and The Lismore has plenty to choose from! The barstaff have always been lovely and patient when me and my droogs have stood around, wide-eyed, open-mouthed and saying ‘eeeeeehhhhhh…’ as we hummed and hawed at what to choose. They’ve always been friendly and helpful, too, and their recommendations have never disappointed. They know their stuff. I like. There’s a nice, laid-back atmosphere in the bar, and, hurrah, no overt scenesters! The prices are good, too. I’ve never had a bad time at The Lismore. I even adopted my ‘son’ Nigel(a stringless badminton racquet) after a few post-Al’s graduation drinks in The Lismore with Young Jom a few years back, such are the delightful things that can happen in this bar. Nigel is dead now(he was chucked in the bin when I redecorated, but ssshhh, don’t tell Social Services), but the memories of his adoption night are intact and happy. This is a great place to come with your chums for a quick drink or for an all day relaxing catch-up. Highly recommended!

«Did that fully grown man just fall over?» «Aye.» I looked over bewildered as the maimed animal fell horizontally. A victim of an arrow dipped in scotch which soaked his motor neuron system. That quickly turned to awe as like a new born foal he tentatively found his feet and viola regained balance. And continued a conversation whilst ordering another drink. «That is amazing.» «Aye.» So from that I gathered the Lismore servers potent stuff. Scots have livers of steel. Also I assume that they get a regular crowd as they can judge when someone has had enough etc. Cute spot that would be a perfect set for The Hobbit.

Shhh… Don’t tell the Scot but I hate whiskey! Taking me to a pub which serves a ‘monthly malt’ and a wide selection of local beers and it’s just wasted on me. I don’t even like beer! Saying that, The Lismore is pretty awesome. It’s a village pub in a city. You get the feeling that everyone in there knows each other and the friendly bar staff make sure that you’re greeted with a smile and Scottish charm. The night we were there, we didn’t experience any live music but we did sit and have a good chin-wag over some seriously tasty Cabbie’s. I had no idea this was Scottish! As a visitor it was nice to have a few jars on a rainy evening in Glasgow in this non-touristy boozer. Yes Scotland, I’m a fan!

The Lismore(or Lios Mor) sits in the heart of the Glasgow Gaelic Ghetto. This lovely little gem of a pub serves as a wonderful social centre for several folks in the West End. Some nice artwork of local Gaelic artists decorate the walls. Gaelic Music is played on regular nights during the week and the place evokes a laid back attitude which is a welcome respite from the fashion conscious West End crowd. But the main reason for this review is to highlight the amazing collection of over a 100 malts sitting within this small oasis. Hey, I am not asking you to drive across the bloody Highlands or up a Ben. These drams are available to you completely trouble free. You just need to get off at the Partick Underground stop for F**** Sake. They won«Whisky Bar of the Year» in 2005 and have a decent staff with a depth of Whisky Knowledge. So, I would not only call this a Whisky Pilgrimage Stop — it is also a 100 yards from Partick Underground Stop.

I’ve never understood how the Lismore stays so cool. It’s packed between pubs along Dumbarton Road, in Partick, and though the area isn’t that great and other pubs around it struggle with anti-social behaviour, the Lismore always seems untouched by its surroundings. Walking in, the Lismore is just cool. The definition of cool being that one is cool if they don’t try to be cool, and the Lismore fits this bill perfectly. It’s the sort of place which is untouched by nearly everything else going on outside, and inside, you can forget your worries, and have an intimate discussion between friends. One of the things that I would like to point out about the Lismore, is that it has one of the largest selections of whiskey in Glasgow. In fact, try counting the bottles of whiskey above the gantry. It’s like trying to count the stars. Guest casque ales also abound, and the Lismore, without trying, has the authentic Scottish ambiance that so many other places try to imitate. Visit on a Thursday night for the live folk music, or visit on a Saturday afternoon. Any time, you’ll feel right at home.

Ah, The Lismore. The best pub this end of Glasgow by far. Truely the ‘Diamond in the Rough’ of bars in Partick, The Lismore has been so for a number of years now. Beautifully decorated and stocked, this pub has it all. One of the best Whisky gantrys in the city and some of the most knowledgeable staff to go with it! If whisky isn’t usually your tipple, ask the staff to recommend something easy on the palate, they will be happy to help you out. The pub is owned by the same people that own the Ben Nevis and Oran Mor so the emphasis is on Scottishness and the atmosphere definitely reflects this. There is usually a guy in one corner with a bango and someone in the other with a folk guitar just adlibing and adding to the already brimming atmosphere! If your off to meet pals in Partick, I would make this your stop. Other bars are good and old school, but this one just makes you feel at home. Top notch

The Lismore holds a strange place in my social calender and its one that was only recently pointed out to me. Until the weekend just passed i had only ever been in the Lismore on occasions covered by two distinct yet entirely differing social occasions. What? Grizzly with me. The first of these social events that brought a Lismore visit was my brief and ultimately doomed band experience. As a band we would hot the Lismore if inspiration dried or in band politics reached an impasse and copious amounts of alcohol were required. The other event was and is, a pre Christmas pint with a few friends to discuss… well nothing really. Now apart from these two events i don’t believe that i have ever been in the Lismore on another occasion. Yet why? Its a nice place despite sailing desperately close to the rocky outcrop of Scottish theme pub island. However, like the similarly«hoots man, there’s a haggis in ma sporran» Park Bar and Islay Inn, The Lismore pulls the look off and even comes out from under the kilt looking pretty good. Part of this is down to the clientele made up of locals and the odd trendy ‘wender’, however in the main, for me, its the quality of the décor and finishing that lend the quality and non cheese factor to the place. Extra brownie points definitely are added for the stupendous quantity of whiskeys, nice beers and friendly(except if your my mate Stuart) staff. A good Scottish pub if you fancy a Scottish experience or if your Scottish and fancy a pint, dram or nice place to hang about with some mates. I like

«This urinal is dedicated to the three men who participated in the Scottish Highland Clearances. These men took part in what is now recognised as a form of central government endorsed ethnic cleansing. Through their greed and bigotry, they and others have been instrumental in destroying a centuries old Scottish Highlands way of life. PLEASEFEELFREETOPAYTHEMTHERESPECTTHEYAREDUE.» This humorous touch is printed on a small plaque above the mens’ urinals in the Lismore. It shows that the traditional Highland theme on display in this pub is not just there for show — this is a pub which is clearly very proud of its Scottish heritage and takes it very seriously. This proud Scottish heritage is definitely the most endearing and charismatic feature of the Lismore. The décor is very much like that of the inside of an old ship and is very charming to look at. For such a blatantly Scottish pub there is surprisingly no Tennents on tap, though £2.65 for a Fosters is quite reasonable. But it is with whiskeys that the Lismore really excels. 125 different kinds, ranging from a mellow Dalwhinnie to a fiery Talisker. The pub even has several awards on display behind the bar which it has won, such as Licensed Traders Dram of the Year 2002. All the whisky on display reminded me of Compton MacKenzie’s novel«Whisky Galore» and I couldn’t help but think how the characters in it, the people of Little and Great Todday, would react if they had such a huge selection to choose from in their local pub . Although it becomes a lively place at night, the Lismore can be very quiet during the day and I also found it quite cold inside, when you would think the landlord would have the heating on full during such a cold winter as this one. Though I am sure this was an exceptional circumstance and doubt that it is the case all the time.
