NYC Bar isn’t generally somewhere I would choose to go, but on Tuesdays they have the most wondrous deal of 10 delicious chicken wings for £2! TWOPOUNDS. Myself and the bf have taken advantage of this deal a couple of times and the chicken wings are indeed very tasty, we do also keep meaning to try their other food but haven’t done it as yet — minus the stealth fries which were a bit of a letdown to be honest. However, besides a Tuesday, I can’t really see myself going to NYC Bar. I don’t really like the atmosphere and the tabletops etc. are usually a bit sticky. It’s just not a very nice place to sit and have a drink or whatever when there are so many other, better places in Glasgow — especially since there are so many nearby. There’s usually some sort of sport on so obviously if that’s your thing then you’ll love it, unfortunately it isn’t mine and I’m not generally massively keen on sports-bar-type places. I don’t really have much else to say about NYC Bar, other than Chicken Wing Tuesday is definitely worth trying if you like wings!

This restaurant offers, mainly, ‘New York style’ burgers and hot dogs — the menu pretty extensive with various amazing sounding burger/hot dog fillings. It took me quite a while to pick and when I did eventually choose I went with one of the burgers on the specials board — the ‘Colonel Who?’ which was a southern fried chicken breast, cheese, hash browns, cajun mayo, salsa and pickle. The presentation of the food was fine, nothing special but appetising. The same for flavour, the burger was good but nothing to call home about. The salsa wasn’t the small accompaniment I had envisaged, the burger was totally smothered in the salsa which meant I couldn’t taste the other components of the burger. I was quite looking forward to the cajun mayo, but I couldn’t really taste it. The chicken was great though. A lovely grilled piece of chicken which had then been covered in bread crumbs and crisped to a perfect crunch. The fries were standard and I was secretly horrified that there was a 50p charge for mayo(yeah I’m a proper penny pincher) — I’m pretty sure in this day and age mayonnaise is a basic condiment that should be on offer, especially where chips and fries are concerned. My partner had the ‘Notorious P.I.G’ hot dog for his main which tasted scrummy — smokey sausage wrapped in cripsy bacon with sweet pulled pork on top. I was a bit gutted that wasn’t what I’d ordered to be honest! Should have made him swap haha. To accompany my meal I had the Empire Daiquiri and really enjoyed it! The drink was a frozen cocktail which consisted of Angostura Reserva Rum, lime, strawberries, raspberries and passion fruit. Wonderfully refreshing and reminded me of a very similar cocktail I had at the Hard Rock Café on my last visit to New York. I can’t say the food reminded me of New York though, if I’m honest. The service was spectacular here — Erin is a real credit to the restaurant. Her personality was lovely, very friendly and attentive. Nothing seemed too much trouble and she was completely on the ball. My only real gripe of the evening was how loud the music was — we were literally shouting to hear one another, at 6pm in the evening there’s no need… crank the music up when the evening has progressed a bit. Would I go back? Absolutely! Service is great and I really liked the sound of the cocktail menu. The restaurant also has various offer nights, so I would probably choose to dine on one of these nights in the future.

We were in for a leaving do. Some eat some didn’t everyone had some sort of drinks. To be honest there was nothing special however nothing stand out either. The food was alright but not great prices again were city centre average. They have fallen into the trap of needing to have a few craft beers in the fridge but they couldn’t tell you anything about any of them. Beer prices were the high side of average. Staff were nice but didn’t seem to go above and beyond. My only gripes were the cleanliness of the toilets that have the haven’t quite been deep cleaned new your subway toilet smell and the general maintenance of the interior which had some bits of the floor coming up. All in all a nice place but nothing special. I would go back if something was going on but wouldn’t make it a priory to visit with friends.

I popped here on Sunday afternoon with the lovely Eilidh G. We decided to take a chicken wing break and ordered wings with garlic & herb, mozzarella dippers as well as a couple of cokes between us. This place is pretty casual — almost like a sports bar. They were showing ice hockey so maybe that’s what gave it that vibe. Staff were really friendly although at one stage someone came over to our table and I didn’t actually realise they worked there. We got our drinks and we both commented that they tasted funny. It was either the straws, the glass or the postmix. Either way, it wasn’t great and a bit unpleasant. The food arrived quickly and I’d put it firmly in the«good» area — it wasn’t delicious, but it wasn’t terrible. The mozzarella dippers were nicer than the wings which were just a little bland even though they were smothered in sauce. I’d definitely come back here as it was a pretty comfortable bar, and it had a welcoming vibe. I’d just order differently next time.

Do Chicken Wing Tuesday! Whatever you do with your life, make sure it includes Chicken Wing Tuesday! £2 for 10 wings, in a range of sauces, from hot’n’fruity, to smokey’n’spicy. My personal favourites are the Buffalo(Hot and Mild) and the Tequila Lime. Combine a few of these with the Stealth Fries(chips, cheese, bacon and fried onion) with a wee pint of Blue Moon and you’re in for a stellar dining experience.

It’s a 20p wing! I can’t complain too much let’s be honest, if you want cheap food then pop in here on a Tuesday night to get your wings. We had 2 pints, a huge portion of chips and 20 wings for under £14 which is not bad for the city centre. I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t pay full price for these wings And I’ll tell you why… We ordered two types of wings and basically they were both the same wings which had been tossed in our chosen sauces :-/my hubby informed me that 9 times out of ten in the states this is how your wings come, it just doesn’t float my boat unfortunately. I was expecting my Cajun wings to be coated in Cajun seasoning/breadcrumbs and they were just flung in sauce. The fries were decent sized and the dips at 50p each were a good size too. The wings weren’t awful but they were just ‘ok’ the service was pretty slow, it took them 40 mins to bring 2 baskets of wings(which were likely all cooked in the same basket) and a portion of chips. I wouldn’t rush back but if I wanted some scran on a budget whilst on a boozy night out I would maybe pop in. I’m going to add that it was clean and the staff were friendly and attentive they were just a bit slow at serving.

NYC is a great, funky little place centrally located on hope st. I’ve eaten here a few times and never been dissappointed. They have an actual smoker and the pulled pork they offer is amazing!!! The staff are always friendly and inviting. I don’t know why everyone is giving NYC such rubbish reviews??? Maybe get yourself one of their Oreo milkshakes and a steak or pizza and rewrite your review!

Stopped in here for a spot of lunch as we’d been thinking of hiring the venue and were just plain disappointed. The place was very clean which was a highlight however I assumed that this was purely because of the lack of tables and of course customers and the prices reasonable however there £4 lunch deals were not £4 and the food it’s self as soggy, under cooked and of my friends found ice in his nachos. All of us have«icky tummys» since coming home and had to end our jaunt in to Glasgow early as it was so bad. The décor inside the bar is very tacky and I know this is something a bit silly to pick at but the menus on our table were disgusting, they had foot prints on them and were sticky. These are laminated so it just felt like they hadn’t taken the time to clean them. The fact that the low fat burger is listed as «Queens(just for the ladies)» and the beer battered, bacon layered, larger burger was«MANhanttan» also really made me angry. I’m not exactly a feminist but I found this very insulting. I’m also a veggie and there wasn’t much o the menu for myself. There was only one staff member on who knew nothing about the beers on offer, which considering its a «themed» bar would have been better to at least know the names of some of them and spoke to me like I was a complete idiot when I asked for the WiFi Password. The music in the venue is meant to be New York/USA themed however I failed to a remix of «Lets talk about sex» and a song that proclaimed«let’s get naked» over and over again was appropriate for a Monday afternoon, again I’m not really a prude however one of our group was extremely unconformable with the music, I switched off to it after a while after I had to do an epic hunt for light switch in the loos!

This is not a big place and from the outside it looks quite fun to visit. Especially the Mojitos on offer looked like a brilliant way to kick of an evening. (insert scratching vinyl LP sound) — the rude awakening was almost immediately. We sat at the table and on the floor was a knife and rather large dollop of something that resembled a regurgitated piece of sausage. Oh well they forgot to clean that then… The cocktails on offer are plentiful and inspired. They offer craft brews from all over the USA — Like Brooklyn Brewery or Blue Moon. And some beautiful bourbons too. But we were here for the Mojitos. Ordering is done at the bar. Tanja R. returned after a long time with 3 glasses filled to the brim with crushed ice and mint leaves. So full in fact that when put on the table they spilled over and the whole table surface was wet. But we had our Mojito and I always wonder if that much ice is required as it was difficult to get any taste out of it. we had the unfortunate luck to be seated right behind a loud, obnoxious and obvious hen party. This mooted any change of conversation. On our wet table with the dollop of sausage underneath it. I couldn’t wait to leave this place, which is a shame cause with a little effort(and more staff?) this could have been pleasant enough. Now it was just a wrong time wrong place situation.

Visited on Friday 21st June 2013. Not our usual kind of place, but we were on a head wetting and needed a place serving sustenance and booze. The beer selection was pretty good and the cocktails suitably alcoholic and well made. Food wise, we mostly all had burgers. I had pulled pork soaked with BBQ sauce on top of mine and have to say it was delightful. The staff were attentive and friendly. Took my credit card ok, so i’m assuming this has been put in place since the reviewer who mentioned it was cash only was in. For four of us with food, two rounds of beer and two rounds of cocktails, we were about £28 a skull. That’s reasonable in my book. I’d have awarded full marks, but for the sheer volume of the music(and i’m pushing 40, so you can forgive me) and the ubiquitous smokers who gathered at the window outside and created so much smoke, it started to come through the sides of the window. Other than those small quibbles, pretty good and i’d go back.

I also attended this bar/restaurant with an itison voucher, and I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. The food itself, standard burgers/fries fayre, was itself ok, but points have to be knocked off for the very limited selection(two of which were out of stock anyway) and the time it took for the food to be delivered. There are only a couple of tables, so I’m not sure what the hold up was. The food was also quite cold, and that’s not great either! However, by far the biggest drawback, as others have mentioned, is the absolutely DREADFUL music! Aggressive, american gangta-rap played non-stop at ear-splitting volumes the entire time we were there, with the same two videos played on a loop on the tv screens. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs their head read. I get that it’s supposed to be a NY-themed bar, but I’m sure a bit of variety would have been appreciated — not everyone likes gangsta-rap! I would have been very glad of jive talking by the bee gees! I am going to score this place two stars, and I think that’s VERY generous. Sorry, chaps, you are going to have to do better than this!

Went to NYC with my husband(in our 20’s) with an Itison deal. The atmosphere is a bit odd and the music was terrible(a mix of oldies but also dubstep — what?) to be both a bar and a daytime diner(we went at 5.30pm) however I can imagine that it would be nice to have a drink or two there in the evening. The server wasn’t particularly great and there was a loud phone conversation going on that we could hear for like 20 minutes, which was slightly off putting. The drinks are pretty decent deal-wise and sound fab, plus they have large tables which is always nice in the City Centre so we will most likely come here for one or two drinks before a night out with friends. Hoping they have better music at night though. Food-Wise: my husband loved the Manhattan burger and there was literally nothing left on his plate. I had the Brooklyn burger with honey mustard. It was brilliant having such a large chicken breast which really made the burger. The side salad was a bit sad looking and the fries weren’t as hot as I would have liked but overall it was a good meal. The only downside is that the honey mustard served with the burger was definitely NOT honey mustard. I am originally from America(living in Glasgow for a few years now) and regularly get honey mustard sent over to me because it is my favorite(all types, doesn’t matter I like it) however the honey mustard served was basically Mayo with a bit of mustard and was very bland. Just constructive criticism — if you want to be an American Bar that serves American food including honey mustard– well, get some decent honey mustard. Overall it was pretty good and like I said, we will probably stop by for drinks on a night out so looking forward to seeing if the drinks are as great as they sound!

You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. This small bar looks okay from the outside but takes more than a few new york print Cushions in the window to make a good bar and eatery. The bar staff are good at making cocktails but need to speed up. Few good selection of beers but what they sell you can get in quite a few bars across glasgow and they do not attemt to be themed or be more than they are. The bar does not take cards only cash so make sure you have plenty of it here as the drinks and cocktails are not cheap. I came in this evening for food and a few drinks to try out different places that are in town. They have one of those fail safe menu’s where you cannot go wrong consisting of Burgers, one steak on offer, Bagels, Some pasta dishes Pizza Hot dogs or nachos with a few sides that included the famous garlic bread. You can get any of the above at a JD Weatherspoon pub with the exception of pizza l got the feeling that the food was an afterthought and what was on offer does not represent the real NYC. In the end l chose to eat else where. 3 stars only for the drinks!!!

I always find it hard to be really harsh with a new business and perhaps i’ve not experienced the best that this one has to offer, but based on what I have experienced, then i’ve really got to go with a ‘Meh. I’ve(def) experienced better’. Popping in here the other night with a fellow Unilocaler or four, I was left almost a fiver down for one drink. Ok this one drink was an imported Sam Adams on tap, but still, 4.60 for a pint just seems a bit crazy considering that the beer ain’t really that great shakes anyway, especially in a city where real ale and craft beer has exploded of late. Right so beer and price whacks aff a star or two, décor wise it was nothing special and kinda had me looking back fondly on the recently departed Heavenly. Music wise, I have to echo Mark’s remark on the repetition of songs over a very short period of time. It’s not for me. Even with the prospect of decent American style grub, i’d still be hard pushed to visit given the prospect of a 5 quid pint. Yet another pub to crumble due to the proximity of the Pot? Time will tell.

Where’s the zero star button? £4.80 a pint? You’re having a laugh! Jive Talking by the Bee Gees twice in half an hour? If you want NYC done much better just continue down the hill to Ad Lib and give this place a wide berth.

Me and my mates popped into this bar after passing it one night and thinking it looked like something a little different, that and it looked brand new(not that common a sight in Glasgow) We weren’t disappointed the staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home as soon as we entered the bar. Next we had a look at the cocktail menu, which was very extensive with a nice selection of NYC themed cocktails and shooters at a very reasonable price for a dedicated cocktail bar on a Saturday night. My group opted for 3 of their special cocktails, a rum and fruit juice based drink served in a Bacardi travel chest(only 3 per customer) the drink was very tastie, fruity without being sickly sweet. Next we got a bit peckish and had one of their Nacho sharers which again did not disappoint the chilli served with the nachos had a nice spice to them which took the edge of our hunger nicely without us becoming stuffed! Hope this helped, id certainly say this bar is worth a visit if your near hope street!
