Orwells bar is a pretty good boozer considering the amount there are in the area. This bar tends to be quieter in the evening on weekdays but is more buster in the daytime & weekends where their main trade is. Live sports on one tv and music on the other. This is a bar that when you go a few times you start recognising the faces, as most of their clientele are regulars & local. Got to be one of the smaller bars in glasgow, but strangely a pint of guiness here is cheaper than weatherspoons. They don’t serve food here but there are snacks like nuts & crisps.

I went out for a few drinks and Donald M suggested we meet at this place. I’m not really a drinker, unless they have a nice Ale. No Belhaven Best, but the Caledonia Best is still pretty nice. I think Donald M must drink here all the time as he was recognised. They have a nice home décor with amazing wood decorative interior. Huge Projector TV on the wall that shows movies, and a TV above the door. We had not been in more than 5 minutes when the Bar man asked if we wanted the heater on right next to us. Very welcoming, nice and warm, and most of all, it’s very clean. It’s a place worth turning your car from a major to a Minor road. Bar guy served us as soon as we came in the door with no wait. And it has wifi too:) it’s a really relaxing place, and we have the comfy leather booth at the back of the pub. Get more Scampie crisps, Donald M must have eaten them all:) Thanks Bar guy:)

Typical Glasgow«bingo» bar i.e. Walk in and it’s eyes down. However, don’t let the unsavoury looking characters smoking in the doorway put you off as they are probably bar staff. Anyway, a couple of beers and you’ll probably go elsewhere.

While other pubs boast of special offers, exotic new beers on tap and entertainment nights, Orwells modestly displays«Football and Racing» on its exterior. And that perhaps tells you all you need to know about this traditional Glaswegian boozer. While a bit dreary and overwhelmingly male-orientated, it’s a friendly enough little place but one you would only really nip into if you were in the area. As it happens, neither football or racing were on TV when I visited but then again, it’s possible it doesn’t even show them and the sign, in actual fact, could be preceded with«If you don’t like…» and proceeded with«…you won’t like here.»

Whats that noise? Its like an alarm or a siren or a… oh shit! Its the old man pub alert… run!!! Grab your vintage army surplus jacket with the mis matching buttons, tie tight your aged tennis sneakers and plonk that woolly hat with the wee ear covering bits and a dangly bobble on top and RUN!!! Did you run? Good. Not a scary place but really just no reason to head here unless you want to stared at by the regulars, or the sons of the regulars(good name fora band??? copyrighted, hands off.) With so many kick ass cool bars on the nearby Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street i cant think of one single reason to come in here. Nice enough suppose but no real draw… run!!!
