I don’t normally venture into branches of Pret A Manger but on this occasion I made an exception. It was characteristically freezing in Glasgow, I’d forgotten my jumper and I was in desperate need of some hot food and somewhere warm to sit and eat it. Since it was a Saturday almost everywhere was packed with shoppers having their lunch. I found that this branch, slightly off the main shopping streets, actually had a couple of tables spare. I was a bit disapointed that more hot food options weren’t available. They have one or two paninis in a hot cabinet and a couple of pasta and stew dishes that you can take to the coutner to warm up. The rest is cold sandwiches, snacks and salads(although I believe soups are an option too). Perhaps they have more options but they’d sold out on the busy day. In the end I went for a superfood kale and cauliflower macaroni cheese. It was actually really good and totally warmed me up. Plus, because of the kale and cauli it made me feel like I was being healthy whilst eating mac and cheese. Service was fine, although a bit slow to clear tables, but it was super busy. Pret serves it’s purpose and serves it well. I’d drop by again, especially if I was near Queen Street Station and wanted a quick, cheap lunch for one. Otherwise, though, there are more exciting places in Glasgow to eat.

I was introduced to Pret a Manger 99p filter coffee by a colleague, this is the coffee of choice for our studio. It tends to be stupidly strong and(as filter coffee goes) pretty tasty. Occasionally it may be accompanied by a popcorn caramel bar. Nothing in particular extraordinary about this Pret branch, other than it is convenient for George Square and surrounding workplaces. Some of the food is pretty expensive(though on a par with similar places), the staff tend to be friendly and smiley and there are places to sit in should you wish.

My first stop in Glasgow was this nice Pret location. I needed a wifi connection, a coffee, and a place to charge my mobile. Pret provided me with all of that, plus a delicious and fresh blueberry muffin as well. The service was good, not extraordinary though. The person who took my order wasn’t too friendly. However, the place was very clean, with lots of tables and places to sit. It was a nice place to relax and get myself together before starting my tourist day in Glasgow. I would definitely stop back in at some point if I am hanging out in the Glasgow city centre again.

First to review this. Really?!? I don’t think there’s any point in explaining what Pret is or does. If you don’t know it serves fresh, then that’s all you need to know, right? We brought some Berliner friends here and they couldn’t believe the concept. They don’t get out much and I think they started to get a little pissed at me laughing at their ignorant worldly ways. My bad. In fact this is my second fav Pret in Glasgow. It has all the usual cheery staff, freshly made sandwiches’ etc, but the drip coffee is insanely strong! Not good strong, but mouth puckering, strewed strong. And it’s no flash in the pan either. In the last week or so it’s never failed to zap me like a lemon on heat. But the staff are extremely obliging, even informing me there are other coffees on offer. Now there’s a thought :/
