Always on point! Stereo has to be my favourite place to visit, whether it’s for lunch, dinner or a pit stop for coffee & cake. Generous servings and friendly staff keep me coming back not to mention the outstanding food, even my strictly carnivorous husband loves visiting this vegan restaurant as the«haggis» pizza & «sausage» sandwich are both so good he doesn’t feel like he’s missing out. Total win!

When I finish work early and fancy reading with a glass of wine this is my go to place. Actually, if I’m meeting friends, fancy a bite to eat… OK you get the picture. It can seem a tad hipster at first but then you’ll notice a wide variety of people in it enjoying the vegan food. Downstairs is a large area great for seeing bands and I’ve even watched a movie in there. please be aware that the toilets on the ground floor are unisex. When you go in the signs on the doors will let you know if there’s a toilet or urinal behind it. It also has disabled access so everyone can enjoy this(slightly) hidden gem. Walking along the cobbled lane might seem a bit risqué but it’s actually quite safe and i do recommend that you look up and you’ll notice how beautiful the building is, designed by Macintosh no less.

Stereo is my favourite place to go if I’m in the city centre and looking for yummy food and refreshing drinks. They have an amazing selection of vegetarian and vegan small plates including imaginative specials and desserts. This is also the best place to go for a really late evening bite– food is served until very late. As well as vegan wines and a brilliant range of cool beers and ales they have a fantastic selection of non alcoholic drinks including non-alcoholic beer, rose lemonade(my fave ever– like what unicorns should drink!) and ginger beer. The vibe is very hipster and shabby chic — also there are gender neutral toilets which demonstrate the eclectic equalities oriented ethos of Stereo– everyone is welcome here! Also home to a great live music/club venue regular nights include Push It– all female r ‘n b and hip hop– and an impressive array of indie/hipster gigs from guitar bands to electronic beats. My favourite thing about this place is the capacity to buy a cuppa all evening in the café bar upstairs!

Stereo is an über hip /arty bar and music venue located in the not so hip area around Central Station. If you are brave enough to venture down the rather dark and dingy Renfield Lane you will be rewarded by finding this friendly pub serving a decent selection of beers and offering home cooked vegan grub. As Stereo is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the City Centre this is usually a great place to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxing drink with friends. My favourite thing about Stereo is the excellent gig space downstairs. The sound system is great and these guys seem to put on some of the best indie and underground acts around. It would almost be perfect but for the rather unfortunate structural columns in the middle of the room which can hinder views. When I’m in this area of town, Stereo will always be near the top of my list of places to grab a drink.

First time eating here in wee while. Used to go for the Monday tapas years many moons ago. Friend had booked a table and we were squashed into middle of make shift dining area, where we were literally sitting shoulder to shoulder to other diners. I ordered the pesto pizza and was bit disappointed as not a bit of tomato in sight, more like a floppy, rich pesto bread, covered in tiny button mushrooms. The base was soft and not a crispy crust to be seen. As ordering pizza is such a rare treat for me, I prob just felt that little bit more let down. Good music, nice selection of drinks but might need to give it another try to make up my mind.

This is a kooky place. They have some odd drinks on. The place is down some alley in glasgow and looks like a typical student hang out. Nothing spent on the décor. It has furniture and friendly staff. Lots of book readers, tattoos and purple hair. Don’t be thinking you’ll hear Justin beiber tunes either. Something alternative I’m sure. It’s interesting and definitely shows some of Glasgow diverse culture. I love it, but it’s not necessarily for me.

We bolted straight to Stereo on Saturday night, in need of quick and filling food, and with Stereo delivering it’s usual champion outcome, I thought it was time I wrote an update review. In short, it’s still awesome here. We were pretty hungry, so needed somewhere reliable to go, and arriving at about 7pm, it was stowed. Potential disaster! So we were very lucky and happy to get the last table available. I ordered the gluten free mezze platter. My word, it was substantial and delicious. The platter was heaped with many delicous items — the obligatory hummus of course, with oatcakes, black and green olives, some spicy chickpeas, a roasted aubergine with dip and dukka, a fresh green salad, and my favourite item — rosemary polenta fries, with a sour cream dip. I’d never had them before and they are super tasty. I’d have them again in a heartbeat. My OH had a mushroom and chickpea burger with chips and sclaffed it pronto, which was a very good thing considering he was getting ever so slightly hangry. Or at least a bit… hmmm… overwraught. I didn’t even get offered a chip! ;-) We also had a couple of lovely beers — pricey at almost £5 a pint! But the food is very reasonably priced so I wouldn’t quibble about it. We shared a cinammon bun for dessert. It was a wee bit dry but I still like it. It would seem from my reviews that I only ever eat cinammon buns when I come here! I’m sure that’s not the case, but I do like a cinammon bun. Service was quick and efficient. Ah Stereo, don’t go changing. Apart from your toilets, you can do something with them.

Stereo is just one of those places that we keep going back to time and time again. It really is very handy if you’re in town doing a spot of shopping being very close to Central Station and also not far from Buchanan St subway too. Yesterday was one of those days when simple, quick and girlfriend friendly food was necessary and after much debate(yeah about 10 seconds…) we headed to Stereo knowing the food would be good & plentiful. 7pm on a Saturday night and the place was already busy and luckily we grabbed the last available table and a menu. Mushroom & Chickpea Burger for me and a Mezze platter for her — sorted! A harder decision was the beer as they have a pretty good range but we soon settled on some easy quaffable lagers! Our food came pretty quickly(which is good as I was about to eat my arm) and all polished off with gusto. We just had room to share a cinnamon bun for dessert although that was quite dry and I’m glad I hadn’t opted for a whole one! There was a slight error with our bill which was quickly and politely resolved and we made our way home happy and replenished. Thank you Stereo, see you again soon no doubt.

This is my review for the club/venue side of things, I’ll have to go back and try the food as I’ve not spent any time upstairs in absolute yonks! Stereo’s downstairs area is one of those really versatile spaces. I’ve been to see indie gigs, african drumming ensembles, and disco/house dj’s all in the same venue, and the space really does transform depending on what you’re going to see. I think it’s probably best suited as an intimate gig space, but it can be a really fun place to boogie the night away if they bring in the strobes and the smoke machine. Drinks aren’t too pricey but they’re not cheap as chips either, and the loos are nothing to rave about(but if you even expect loo roll in the toilet’s of a Glasgow club, you’re really need to lower your expectations!) Nights out at stereo are all about the friends you come along with. Their soundsystem isn’t great and they put on lots of startup acts so nights can be verrryyy hit and miss. I’ve definitely had bad experiences in stereo before, but I suppose one can always escape upstairs to a table for a drink if the basement isn’t looking promising.

Stereo is the perfect spot in the centre of town for veggie food. I met some friends here(one of which is pregnant and veggie, so the perfect spot!) for a quick lunch today. I’ve been to Stereo countless times, mainly for drinks as it’s such a handy pub with a good selection of beer. It’s so central but feels a little hidden as down a side street. It also has a great gig space downstairs. I wasn’t that hungry today so I just went for some falafels and polenta fries. They were from their tapas selection so £3.95 each. The polenta fries were well seasoned and come with garlic mayo and some chilli. The falafels were on a bed of well dressed cucumber salad which was really nice. One friend got a very large wrap and the other the gluten free mezze which had an amazing amount of food! The service was a little slow today so we didn’t stay for coffee. I do love Stereo, but the one thing I CAN’T STAND is the unisex toilets. I just really dislike unisex toilets. SOMUCH. Also, these toilets are pretty gross so there’s that too. In brief, Stereo is reasonably priced, has a good selection of food and is a nice chilled out space. It would probably get 5 stars if it wasn’t for the bogging bogs.

Delicious food and great value for money. Had the mezze for £8 which was absolutely super as it was filling, fresh and nutritious. Only gripe would be the staff are friendly but not very attentive-sitting for a good while before order was taken/plate taken away. Minor point, but worth it for the good food.

The good. And it’s pretty much it all! 1.Great space 2. Frendly staff 3. Tasty Veg Burgers 4. A good beer selection and 5. Duck lurking in the lane. Not a vegan me — I have neither the puffed up wallet nor the steadfast morals to give up meat, or even cheese or eggs. I do like the idea of healthy eating especially as I find myself transitioning into a more sedentary lifestyle, but the prices and the portions of some vegan places are a tad vulgar. I once found myself paying almost £20 for essentially what boiled down to a spoonful of brown rice and char-burnt tofu, and almost cried hot tears of anger at how dumb I was. Never again. Now I only go to great venues serving decently priced and tasty food and with a beer wash to boot. And all thanks to Unilocal! GOINGTOSTEREOISNOTDUMB! No rant from me here! My friend for the evening was ‘Meek’ Kaman. Now Kaman’s that reserved, soft-spoken type who never makes himself heard — He’s no alpha male. He’ll occasionally come up with some off the cuff remarks though, and last night was no exception. Like«They have all the awesome drinks here!!!» and«This is gonna be my new home! In fact next time you phone to ask if I want to go out I’m gonna say — No I’m staying in! But I’ll say I’ll grab a veggie pizza and a drink from MY bar, I’ll get you one while I’m there! Then after a few drinks I’ll say we’ll go down to my basement to watch Mogwai, Eliza and The Bear or something cool!» Kaman — you took the words right out of my mouth. Almost forgot. The duck? There’s a duck that resides in Renfield Lane. Don’t know for how long and don’t know how long it’ll be there. Just enjoy it while you can.

Mini-update. Stereo is now using a variety of vegan milks including almond milk and a coconut concoction, but no longer has the option of cow’s milk. Please see my in depth review below for the full monty.

I really like Stereo, and for me only Mono beats it. Now if this was audio I was harping on about I would clearly be well off base. Ok ok I’m sorry excess crap musical punnery must end, time for my review: I’ve been here twice, once on a date and once meeting an old friend. On both occasions the food was lovely, the drinks nice and the quiet ambience perfectly matched to the chilled conversation I was engaged in. I love the long bench seating at the window looking onto the somewhat dingy wheelie bin strewn lane outside. Actually the first time I walked into that lane I thought I had the wrong lane/street! The staff have always been really nice, you can tell they enjoy working behind the bar there. It is always better when the staff take pride in their place of work, and this is certainly the case with the enthusiastic and vibrant staff in Stereo. I thoroughly recommend it here, and it’s another of my must visit places each time I come to Glasgow. Actually as a vegan I am even tempted to move to Glasgow just because of the availability of eating out: something I’m deprived of in the rural Aberdeenshire town I abide in.

Food at Stereo was like one big, comforting hug. Legitimately. Hungry and cold, Stereo came to mind when looking for a light post-Yelp event dinner in the town centre. Whilst Glasgow’s famous for its vegan eateries, I’m downright ashamed by just how few I’ve tried so I was excited by the thought of adding Stereo to the list. Having entered into a meat-free January, Stereo seemed like just the place to chow down on some tasty and healthy Veggie food. — Boy, I am so glad we ventured down Renfield Lane! The interior is minimalistic and stripped back, the atmosphere an effortlessly cool and relaxed one. — Just the place to hang with some food and drinks before heading onwards to evening plans in Glasgow. Although, it sure would be just as easy to forgot any plans and stick around in Stereo; I sure did feel cosey. We were promptly shown to a table and handed menus. I hadn’t seen my best friend for a while so, as so often happens, we hadn’t glanced at the menu, let alone decided, when the waiter came to take our order. In quite possibly the most annoying dining habit, at his second visit to the table, we were still in full-flow patter mode. The waiter was lovely and patient, coming over a third time which we’d made sure we were ready for. I’m a sucker for both a daily specials board and a hearty bowl of soup, so I just couldn’t resist the charms of the roast carrot, sweet potato and orange soup which called to me from Stereo’s chalkboard. Add to that the freshest of freshly baked breads and a side of rosemary and sea salt polenta chips and I was pretty much in foodie heaven. The soup was warming, wholesome and brimming with flavour, with a little bit of heat coming from the slither of fresh chilli which graced the top. — A nice little kick and a welcome surprise! And I fell in love with the polenta chips. Hard. — Seasoned to perfection and delivered with the tangiest, tastiest of sauces. Delicious! I want every excuse to eat here, I really do. And I so wish that I’d met Stereo sooner. But, hey, that just means we’ve got some catching up to do, and I’m not complaining! Stereo is true comfort food; an edible hug, if ever there was one.

Food is good and the gig space downstairs is always enjoyable hosting to bands such as The beards and Seraph Sin. Nice atmosphere really enjoyed it. Downside and a star stealer for me is the upstair toilets. They are horribly cold and I have a feeling of unease when I need to use them. If the facilities were nicer I would be rating a 4 star here.

I don’t know why I’ve never visited this place before… no in fact I do! From the outside its not much to look at, and I remember passing once before when it was deserted, thinking it looked a little grim. Anyway, reading the reviews on here and from my recent trip to the CCA, I really decided I should be more adventurous in my veggie ventures. This time, shortly after 6pm the place was heaving with a fair mix of folks having drinks and food. The seats or décor aren’t the most luxurious but the menu was right up my street and I struggled to choose. Tapas style dishes, sweet potato chips and dips, hummus, veggie sandwiches with proper veggie fillings(none of your standard veggie mozzarella options here), and mains like veggie burgers and pizzas… what to choose. I decided to avoid my classic veggie choice(the veggie burger) and go for something different in the form of the baked polenta stack with ratatouille and salad with pesto dressing. My wee non-veggie meat loving dining companion opted for the haggis fritters with chips. The polenta portion was a decent size and pretty tasty, although I did think there was slightly too many aubergine bits in the ratatouille which is never my favourite, but it was nice to have something a bit different. The haggis fritters came in a flatbread wrap and I had slight food envy when I got to try a bit. The haggis was nice and spicy and with some tommy sauce I think you’d struggle to know it was all vegetarian(well I’m saying that, I’ve never tried real haggis!). We were both quite satisfied but had a swatch at the dessert board. There was only two options available– a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing(PB is the devil so that was oot!), and a blueberry crumble cake which didn’t tempt us. I would maybe have liked to see a few more options on here — a vegan brownie or cheesecake would have been fab! At £8 for the mains it was really good value for money and I’m looking forward to coming back and working my way through the menu… next to try the veggie burger!

Is it a bar? Is it a café? I can’t decide. Equally, I’m not that fussed, it works. As a carnivore, I like my meat. Which is the one thing not on offer on this menu. But what a tasty menu it is: fresh soups, sweet chilli spring rolls, lentil and porcini lasagne, haggis koftas — or rummage the tapas menu(but you prob won’t want to share it). Stereo is hidden down a lane, and its inside walls and pillars are covered in gig posters — many for its own venue, or for decent indie bands across the city. I tend to avoid the beers on draught and opt for the selection of Williams Brothers bottles in the fridge — but I find you always have to specifically ask for a glass(do I look like a bottle-swilling kinda guy?). Downstairs is a cavernous venue space. I’ve danced here, seen bands here, had piety recited. Check out what’s happening — there’s prob a poster upstairs telling all about it. And yes, it’s vegan — but honestly, they won’t bite.

I think this is my fav of all the vegan places I’ve been too in Glasgow, it has that same«we’re too cool hipster» vibe but with a bit more friendly and a lot more«normal» eating crowd. I’m not super crazy about their veggie burger though… but what I do Love is their amazing vegan nachos and the greek plate! Plus its just a hop, skip and jump away from the train station! Its a WINWIN. I hear they have live music there but I’ve always been a luncher so have yet to partake in that side, but it seems cool . umm I’m crazing some veggi nachos and a beer now just thinking of this place

I’m not vegan or vegetarian, but I absolutely love this place! We always tend to over-indulge on the tapas when we go, simply because it’s so hard to pick just a few. They do a tapas platter for £12 on Mondays… Result! Here’s a quick review of some of the lovely dishes we’ve had: Haggis fritters — UNREAL! I’d actually go as far as saying I enjoy these more than real haggis. The dip that they’re served with is also top notch. Spring rolls — Beautifully cooked in light, crispy pastry with a zingy, chilli infused dipping sauce. Roasted sweet potatoes — I’m not sure which spices are added to these but they are an absolute delight. Mixed roasted vegetables — For such a simple dish, they really do impress. It’s nice to order these as part of the platter to break things up a bit. I’ve had their pizzas before and they were goooood! Perhaps even healthy? They have a great selection of organic, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. Been to a few gigs downstairs too and it’s quite a unique, cool little venue. Staff are all really friendly, which really adds to the charm of the place but doesn’t take away from it’s cool-ness. One of Glasgow’s little gems!
