Have never been disappointed. Burgers are out of this world. Make sure that I visit at least once a month. Nothing negative to say.

With a duo of Canadians to impress and a want for Scottish grub to be satiated, I thought of this place and this place alone. When you look at this joint with fresh eyes, it’s ticking boxes left, right, centre and above. Down an alley off the trendy von trendersson Byres Road, situated in a wee stone house that looks like something from Harry Potter. Once inside, it’s welcoming, bright and rustic enough to merit the hidden lane location. Grub wise, I found it hard to look beyond the haggis, neep and tatties. My other dinner dates went for a selection of starters, fish and chips and a quite lovely looking rump steak. Service today reached beyond your normal expectations as the staff dealt quickly and efficiently with two(that’s right), children. One high chair bound and the other being a ‘big girl’ on an adult seat. All questions, requests and demands! were dealt with splendidly. I required this to place to deliver good food and service. It done it.

One of our favourite lunch spots… the burgers are great –quite large– and come with very thick cut chips. The drinks are also nice – we had a mojito that took a while to come out, but it was lovely. Service here is great – very cheerful and helpful waitstaff who stay on top of the tables and make for a very pleasant dining experience. My husband says this an area where they’ve made great improvement over the last year or so since the ownership has changed hands.

Came here for a brunch type of affair after a night at Brel. Was seated straight away and offered a menu freshly typed up that day, nice touch. Menu was full of choice for a sunday early afternoon, full breakfasts, lots of eggs, bloody mary’s but also usual kind of mains, burgers, fish etc Service was quick but leisurely, as it should be. Our order wasnt written down, which was a bit worrying as we all wanted our breakfast minus something — what can I say black pudding disturbs me. But they got all of our funny breakfasts right. The food was great and the sausage especially was gorgeous. Definately would go back for a proper lunch or evening meal. 4 breakfasts, 7 coffees and 1 orange juice came to £45 so not as cheap as your average fry up — but this really wasnt an average fry-up

Stravaigan 2, Ruthven Lane, Glasgow The place is small but with a nice bistro type vibe with dark furniture and light walls with the odd advert on the wall for different theme nights coming up in the restaurant. Think global eat local is the tag line for this restaurant, maybe I just didn’t get it with so many different global dishes there was no order to the menu, especially the £9.95 two course menu. . This was a lunch meeting today so the two course for £9.95 was appealing. Unfortunately with only three starters and three mains to choose from there was little options. One of the three starters was onion bhaji and one of the three mains was curry I was forced on to the a la carte menu. If i had wanted curry i would have visited the Wee Curry Shop in nearby Ahton Lane. The menu has a good mix of dishes from around the world with mussels and coriander with chilli to start and main courses of Jerk chicken or their homemade haggis !!. I was confused again even with the larger menu. I chose the special of the day to start, a ham hough consommé with Ayrshire bacon and peas with my friend Morag going for the cured trout, I have never seen or Heard of a ham hough consommé but when it arrived it looked wonderful, a dark transparent liquid with thin strips of bacon and a scattering of peas. The soup was fantastic with the salty taste of the ham hough and bacon balanced by the sweetness of the peas. Morags trout looked good if a little on the small side but she said it was fantastic. For the mains we both had the fish supper with homemade tartare sauce which as far as fish and chips go was certainly up there. The batter was perfectly light and crisp with thick cut chips with a nice zing from the hone made tartare. If I had a complaint it would be the portion of fish was a little on the small side but all being said was very good. The young waitress came back with the desert menu and asked with a smile if we had room for deserts, after the small portion on the mains i went for the key lime pie with orange and chilli sorbet with morag going for ice cream with cookies. The desert was definitely the star of the show with the sweetness of the pie working perfectly with the citrus and chilli in the sorbet. A nice enough lunch with really friendly attentive staff and the bill just short of £40.00. There are better restauarants nearby for the money.

A staple if you want some nice Scottish cuisine, though I avoid their international cuisine, which is varied and brave, but often not as authentic as I’d hope it to be. The rural restaurant feel makes it a very relaxed but smart place to pass away an evening. Their fantastic fish ‘n’ chips are one of the best in Glasgow: a proper battered fish and a large portion of chunky maris piper«chips» with homemade tartare sauce. The burgers are one of the biggest around and come with the same chips. They do a mussels pot, but only with a chilli sauce. It’s also a good place if you fancy some Sunday Brunch. Prices are a little higher than other places. They have good drinks menu too including a Kournikova — a hot white russian.

After reading Chris’ glowing review of the place, I decided to try it out for myself. If you can’t trust your own judgement, whose can you? Located on Ruthven Lane, just off Byers Road and a stone’s throw from Hillhead Underground station, which is particularly welcome during the chilly weather we’ve been experiencing of late. The restaurant is really cosy, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere and lovely décor. We sat upstairs, in a fairly small but comfortable room, painted white with a wee veranda and lots of fairy lights. The pointed ceiling is held by rafters, which are decorated with something of a hanging garden. The service was great and the food choices are fantastic. We shared a fish cake to start, which was like a journey of flavour. It’s not what you’d typically expect from a fish cake, with lots of different elements to it and a sort of salsa of sweetcorn, black beans, and onion on the side. It was so darn delicious I could’ve eaten it all over again. For the main, I had a cheeseburger. The meat was amazing but it could have used some garnish — namely lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I know this is Glasgow and we tend to be a bit ‘feart of the veggies, but it would have added so much. My boyfriend opted for the haggis, neeps, and tatties, taking him one step closer to gaining his encyclopaedic knowledge on the dish. It was well presented, and there was plenty of it. Most importantly, it was delicious. I think I had about a third of the neeps myself. We didn’t have time to stick around for dessert, which was probably wise as we were absolutely stuffed. It was cheaper than we had anticipated too — definitely good value for your coin. A lovely wee restaurant to which I will most certainly return. Highly recommended!

This is a great restaurant just off Byres Road. Lovely contemporary, fresh décor and an innovative menu. I had a wonderful lunch here, the food delicious!
