A pokey wee bar opposite the Central Station in Hope Street. Used to boast live music although the only music it has these days is on the juke box(5 songs = £1). Prices are good and service fairly fast(except when the solitary member of staff nips outside for a quick fag). No SKY tv(so don’t go there for the big game). An ok place for a quick drink before catching the train.

Awwwww! Just look at the outside?! An ‘Alpen Lodge’ style façade, complete with faux roof tiles and bay-style window… it’s so cute! Just like Liz, we spontaneously popped in her for a drink just for a nosey. We weren’t disappointed — we walked in to find it full of large drunken men singing along to, what I can understand was ‘Caledonia’, swaying and swinging pints here, there and everywhere. Ok, I’m not about to make it my regular, but the banter was hearty, the drinks were cheap and best of all, we got a game of pool in. You can’t knock it, really.

A tiny, tiny wee bar near Glasgow Central, Alpen Lodge surprisingly manages to squash in a pool table. We popped in spontaneously for a drink one evening to see if it was as cute inside as it was outside. It was cute enough, and pretty busy, with drink prices pretty reasonable. There were posters up advertising regular band nights. When these are on, I imagine you’d be pretty lucky to get in the bar. All in all, not a bad wee place, but just not very«me».
