Given that I go in here so much, I’m not actually that keen on it. It’s handy and it stocks most of the basics, but the range is limited if you’re looking for something specific and it’s quite expensive. They re-did the layout a while ago and it was a nightmare trying to find anything; for ages, they had cheese and milk in the Dairy section but not the butter or margarine — that was down the front with the fresh pasta and cooked meat, obviously. They’ve re-shuffled everything again since then and it makes a bit more sense now, but it feels like they’ve lost a lot of floor space and haven’t really improved anything. They put in self-service tills but after I had to call a member of staff 3 times when buying 3 items, then discovering they don’t do cashback, I’ve never used them again and judging by the increasing queues at the kiosk tills, neither have most of the regulars. I also don’t like the fact they’ve stopped posting out proper discount vouchers in return for your Co-op dividends and now you just get a till receipt saying £2 off when you spend a certain amount and an expiry date so if you don’t use it within a couple of weeks, it’s gone. On the plus side, the staff are friendly and chatty(especially David, he’s just fantastic), it does lottery, it’s open until 10pm and it’s in a very handy location.

Great selection with lots and lots of fresh produce. Lots of great offers too so you can pick up a few bargains. The self service checkout has to be treated with a bit of a sense of humour. Good selection of wines and spirits.

Yeah I know it’s a bit pricey but that’s expected from the co op. I hadn’t been in this branch for a wee while because I work nearer the one in battlefield rd. it was good to see that this one has had a makeover though, it was looking a bit tired of late. They seem to have upped their game regarding the fresh fruit and veg. Lots of lovely pre cut and bagged stuff.(Especially butternut squash, I bloody hate doing that). They now have self scan checkouts also. Big plus cos the q’s were awful before. I’ll definitely visit more often while I’m on my wee lunch hour walk.

I’m afraid I will no longer go into this shop. Why? There are never enough check-out staff and those that are on are usually more interested in speaking with one another than serving you quickly(except for one younger lady) and they do that really annoying thing where they put all your change and notes and receipt into your hand so that all you can do is crumple it up and put it in your purse, Heaven forbid that they might count your change back to you. I know more about the grocery staff’s private lives than I care too, mainly because they spend their times up the aisles exchanging notes on who snogged who up the Shed, meanwhile the queues are getting longer, the palette wrap and boxes are causing trip hazards, the floor doesn’t look as though it’s been washed in years, the fruit and veg always seems slightly on the turn, the milk is extortionately priced and after refurbishing the place the put one of the check outs behind a pillar. It’s like Sleepy Hollow. I know the above sounds like a bit of rant and I suppose it is, but the last time I was in this shop I spent 10 minutes in a queue waiting to pay for a carton of milk and would probably still be there if I hadn’t decided to leave the milk and walk around to Morrisons. Incidentally I was served immediately and the milk was 45p cheaper. This review will ask me at the end if the co-op is wheelchair accessible. The answer should be yes, but wheelchair users, good luck in negotiating all the rubbish lying around the floor and the badly situated displays.

The long queues make this one of the most popular supermarkets in Shawlands: it has a big Post Office as well, making it a one-stop shop and certainly not a small, express service special. It has the usual range of food and drink, a big selection of magazines– certainly competing with many of the local newsagents– and plenty of regular special offers. However, I wouldn’t go for any of the hot food choices: they tend to be heavy on the oil or flavourings, and don’t keep well. It’s always worth checking out the reduced ranges here: they are quick about dropping prices on most products, and the fruit and vegetables have a rapid turn over. Apart from this, it is another Co-op, with plenty of tins, cheap staples and long queues during the day: use the cigarette kiosk if you need to save time!

Agree with other comments, it’s definitely pricier than other local shops(although much cheaper than the M&S at the BP garage). There is also a Co-op travel centre and a Post Office within the building, making it easy to get those important daily tasks done! From around 6⁄7 each night they have stacks of near — sell by date bread at vastly reduced prices. Great for feeding the ducks at the local Queen’s Park!

A useful local supermarket, although pricier than it’s competitors, CoOp can be extremely useful when you run out of a vital ingredient at a critical time! Recently refurbished, the shop is well organised. Their sandwiches are quite nice and you can often pick them up on discount if they are dated for the same/next day. Staff here are friendly but can seem a little disinterested, often they are too busy talking to each other to notice you!

A great local shop, I go there regularly as its just down the road, wheather its for the small things to re-stock or the occasional bigger shop, its pretty good value. Not as cheap as the bigger supermarkets but extremely handy being just down the road. It has just been given a huge make-over, with the whole shop floor re-designed and a new deli, and other departments. Think theres been a travel agents been situated in the building too, between the post office and the co-op. One small gripe is the deli counter seems to always close at 6pm, why is this? This is when they would most likely get most of their business as people finish work etc this may have changed since the new look shop opened though. Other than this its a handy wee local supermarket!
