Excited at the prospect of starting Uni and getting to choose three subjects, I got a bit carried away in first year. After a year of free periods in 6th year at school, in between watching a bit of «Murder She Wrote» I have to admit, I was obsessed with Timeteam, I just couldn’t get enough! I realised that I just had to get involved! The Gregory Building is home to the archaeology department and this place reeks of adventure! I had no archaeology experience whatsoever and was just pleased that having a beard was not a pre-requisite. I had great expectations, first exploring my career in archaeology in which I would be given a trusty spade and a Regatta fleece and then pursuing a career in palaeontology where I would dig up a dinosaur and name her; «Eleanorsaurus». Sadly, my dreams were shattered and I did not take archaeology after first year. There was no digging up of Neolithic pots, no learning how to grow a beard, I didn’t even get my spade. The closest I got to an exciting adventure was when we paid a trip to Hadrian’s Wall but rather than excavating or anything exciting we just had to walk through a field dodging cow pats along the way, I definitely did not sign up for that!
