Looking for a new hair salon is always nerve-wracking. I spent a while on Unilocal trying to find the right salon and Lunatic Fringe was absolutely wonderful. The location is very convenient for students and the West End. The stylists are all nice, talented, and easy to talk with during your hair cut. I wanted to have my hair cut back to a short bob and I got exactly that. I love my haircut. Oh and the salon provides coffee and tea as refreshment! I would definitely recommend the Lunatic Fringe to anyone looking for a great hair cut and a positive hair styling experience!

Got to be the only place in Glasgow where they understand the meaning of ‘a trim’. I’ve got hair down to my waist and I’m always terrified that some scissor-happy madman is going to chop my locks off and leave me in hairless despair. At the lunatic fringe, however, if you say you only want a centimeter off, they’ll only take a centimeter off. I usually tolerate about an inch off in here as I know they won’t get carried away. I usually have Gemma as my hairdresser but I think all the girls in here are great. It’s £25 for a student cut and that gets you washed, blowdried and styled as well. I think they put a bit of extra effort into the styling to justify the 25 quid price tag, since my actual haircut takes about 3 minutes, haha! You can also get 20% off your first treatment with the Unilocal check-in app which, if you’re a student, would bring it down to £20!!! I always walk out of here with lovely bouncy waves and healthy, but still LONG hair, and I honestly wouldn’t risk going anywhere else in Glasgow again. Lunatic fringe, it may only be one haircut a year, but you’ve got my business 4 lyf!

I just recently moved to Glasgow, so I did my research on Unilocal before I came to this place. I definitely feel that they more than just live up to the expectation. Everyone in the salon is very friendly and the atmosphere is rather cozy. Gemma is a real gem! She did my hair exactly the way I wanted it and was very patient in discussing everything beforehand in order to make sure, she would get it that way. I had a colour & cut with semi-permanent colour and afterwards she styled my hair really beautifully! This was probably my best hair dresser experience ever, I can only recommend this place!

My husband and I moved from the U.S. a little over a month ago and I was in desperate need of a haircut. Finding a new hairdresser never seems to be an easy task, but there were some good reviews on this place and I live close by, so I made an appointment. It’s a very cute and fun looking salon. All of the girls were very friendly, including when I booked over the phone. Courtney greeted me, got me a nice cup of tea and did a great job washing my hair and even gave me a very relaxing head massage. She was very sweet. Jenna was my hairdresser and I really liked her for a couple of reasons. Firstly, she took the time to listen to me. Secondly, she took her time cutting my hair, explaining what she was doing along the way taking care not to cut too short. Thirdly, she was also very sweet, patient and cheerful. After drying my hair she checked to see what I thought and did do a little additional shaping a bit at a time to make sure I was happy. Overall, I was very pleased with my service. I paid £32 for the cut which included the blow dry which seems reasonable to me, granted I don’t have anything else to compare that price.

Finding a good hairdresser in a new city is always a nightmare. You try a few, based on location or friends’ recommendations, but it does not always work, you need to find THEONE for you. And even more so, THE person in that salon that is going to cut your hair exactly as you want it. After a few unsuccessful attempts at other Glasgow hairdressers that shall remain unnamed, I found the Lunatic Fringe, and never switched back. The first massive perk of this place is that it is two blocks from my office. I know, right?! Then, they have a fab student discount(£25 for a student cut and dry). Third, and most importantly, Riona is the best hair stylist I’ve found in this city. Every time, she does just what I want. She pauses at critical stages of the cut to ask if I want it shorter or longer and listens carefully to my requests before hand. She even saved my hair once from an unfortunate cut done by my brother(don’t ask…). I also had another stylish once, which I believe to be one of the two sisters who owns the place, and it was also really well executed. Oh and I have a fringe as well: they do fringe clean-ups for free if you are a customer; you just have to stop by or give them a call a bit earlier and they’ll take you on the day. Put simply, if you are looking for a great hair salon in the West End, just don’t think twice, this is the place!

I have confession; I hate going to the hairdressers. I hate the forced small talk and the odd feeling of inadequacy in a lot of hairdressers. It is hard to find a hairdressers where you feel comfortable and where you can get a great haircut. However I have continued to go to Lunatic Fringe time and time again. It is ran by two sisters who definitely know what they are doing and is just the sort of relaxed and friendly atmosphere that a hairdressers should be. Although the name may give you doubts, the staff are very experienced and every haircut I have had from here has been great. They are also available on 5pm if you are after a bargain. If you’re still searching for that illusive great hairdressers then I would definitely give them try.

I’ve never found a hair dresser that I’ve stuck with, I always chop(ha, what a pun!) and change which one I use because I have really thick hair that hairdressers just feel the need to go on about«Oh my, you have SO much hair!» I went to Lunatic Fringe last month to take some of the weight and damaged ends ofut of my hair. I was greeted by staff and my hairdresser, Shireen, came over and we had a chat — I explained my hair type and the kind of thing I wanted done, which she agreed with and clearly explained what she would do. I had booked the appointment with 5pm which included a little head massage during my hair wash which was lovely and very relaxing! The staff all seemed to know their clients pretty well and had lots of banter with each other which gave the place a really great atmosphere. During my haircut, Shireen was chatty and friendly the whole time and most importantly, asked me how I wanted my hair dried. Usually, you just don’t get asked this question, it’s straight and that’s the only option. I told her I’d prefer wavy and she was more than happy to oblige. After the haircut I felt really great, I still had the length but there was a massive weight gone from my hair and it was lovely and wavy. I’m really happy with my experience there and I would definitely go back!

Lunatic Fringe is always my hairdressers of choice — one of the few salons where I feel(anything even resembling) comfortable! Nice place, great hair results and a decent price. It’s a wee teeny tiny salon but it’s designed to make good use of space and it doesn’t feel cramped at all. I always get Liza to cut my hair and she does an excellent job — it’s always just like I want and she manages to give it a sort of funky edge(I usually have chin-length hair and tend to go for variations on a bob and sometimes in other salons it’s come out a bit old lady-ish). I should make it clear that I am not an easy girl to impress when it comes to hairdressers. Let’s set the scene here: I have never been a fan of going for a haircut. I love the feeling of having freshly cut hair but I hate that to achieve this you have to sit through at least 30 mins of awkward small talk and the overwhelming feeling that you’re being judged for not having looked after your hair to the degree that is expected of you — much like going to the dentist. I don’t feel like I have particularly poor quality hair but I’ve been made to feel like I do many times while in a salon seat and the answer to my problems usually lies(funnily enough) in some expensive product or treatment that they strongly recommend.(I should point out that my discomfort is not always the fault of the salon, I just generally don’t like the whole ‘being pampered’ thing, I can’t seem to enjoy it like other people do) So, since I don’t ever enjoy haircuts I used to try new places regularly when they had deals on and never felt drawn back to any particular one. It was the student discount and a friend’s recommendation that encouraged me to try Lunatic Fringe about 3 years ago and I’ve always gone there since! I always know what to expect: I am never kept hanging around for my appointment The stylists only have one customer at a time(occasionally I’ve been places where a stylist is cutting a few people at once and you have to hang about until they get back to you) Liza always takes her time and won’t hesitate to spend a little longer if you’re not happy with anything They put all the nice products in your hair but don’t try to get you to buy them. The price isn’t bad — I still think £30 seems a lot for a haircut but it is much better than any of the other nearby hair salons and it’s definitely better value for money here than anywhere else I also like that Liza just chats away about her week and doesn’t ask too many questions about my job or personal life(incidentally you may be disappointed to hear I don’t have any dark personal secrets that I’m keeping from my hairdresser, simply I feel uncomfortable answering questions in an interview-like fashion. Also I rarely go on holiday. Also in times away from my job I mainly like to not think about my job…) So yeah, go there! I still don’t particularly enjoy going for a haircut but I reckon non-chalance is as close as I’m going to get. They’re organised, efficient, friendly, a good price and I don’t ever suffer major upset or anxiety when I go there!

I live in the area and was pulled into the lunatic fringe on a special offer for a cut and highlights. My appt was at 9am therefore, I am already a fan so I can fit in a cut and color early in the day. The staff were friendly and very attentive. The atmosphere is super relaxing. Overall I am happy with my cut and the highlights look fantastic like I’m ready for summer. 2 thumbs up.

If only id read Catriona’s review! Haha, yeah got caught out by the no Saturday discount and paid near £20 for a haircut but I really needed my hair cut, and they did a good job. I was offered a quality street with my coffee and naturally opted for big purple one which made it a little sweeter, maybe they only do that on Saturdays and that’s why it cost a little more!(Usually it is £15 with a student SnapFax!) I’m sure that’s not the case, and as I stay five minutes away I’d be happy to go and have my hair cut here again.

I used to live upstairs from this hairdressers on Bank Street and so out of sheer laziness and because it was included in the Snap Fax deals, I visited regularly. The sister-run team who own the place(including a beauty room in the back) are absolutely lovely and desipte the fact I would regularly catch other staff smoking in my doorway, they were lovely too. I’m a bit boring(and scared) when it comes to my hair so although I never had anything drastic, I was always happy with the results and the hospitalilty. It’s good value for money but be warned– snap fax and student discount don’t apply on Saturdays.
