The Osprey is a large, yet cozy gastropub situated near Newton Mearns Waitrose. It is set in an old farm house and has ample garden seating and a huge, probably unnecessarily big car park. They sell three real ales here, however when I visited only Deuchars IPA was on, which isn’t the most exciting of beers at the best of times, but wasn’t in very good condition either. The food menu looks good, and decent value for money too. There were lovely smells emanating from the kitchen and I’m sure I will be back at some point to test out the food, especially as I’m signed up to their mailing list and a few offers have come through.

Back for a second visit tonight for another family members birthday and again had a delicious meal. Five of us in my party and one being a gran who cooks a lovely Sunday Roast and she gave it the deal of approval. The only issue on this occasion was that we waited for 20/25mins to even get asked if we would like drinks and when I pontes out that we where actually ready to order food too I was abruptly told«yes after I take the drinks details». That wasn’t the best start but the waitresses after that where very pleasant and chatty. Big portions and again the Sunday Roast was scrummy. We all had three courses and tea’s/coffees etc and the bill was less than we expected. Highly recommend this place and looking forward to going back very soon.

I’ve been to the Osprey several times(including very successful 2nd&3rd dates with my girlfriend) and at different days and times and have always found it to be a pleasant place for a decent pub meal. The menu is full of good meals of a standard slightly above the usual pub grub. The food is good, the staff are friendly and even for Newton Mearns it’s reasonably priced.

So, I’ve just finished reviewing another pub chain in Busby that is similar to The Osprey in size, menu, pricing, and décor. But whereas The Osprey kills it, that other place just weakly slaps it and runs away crying. The Osprey hits all the right notes when you imagine ‘country pub.” It’s set on a hill so if you’re there in the summer you can sit outside in the long sunsets and wile away the night. In the winter the low ceilings, dark furnishings and cozy nooks are the perfect antidote to the chilly damp. The menu ranges from affordable pub classics(all about eight pounds) to contemporary tasting plates to slightly more spendy, but rich and hearty, entrees. Food is fantastic – it’s filling without being stodgy, fresh, and tasty. The service is warm and personable. This is a great place for an inexpensive night out or to take your out of town guests and wow them with some rural charm.
