This is a great wee place for the community of Govan. The Portal is part of the Creative Network Govan Glasgow, which is a collective of artistic organisations who are deal with the development of the arts and deliver community-based Arts and Cultural Programmes in the south-west of Glasgow. The Portal also has several tenants from Plantation Productions, a community arts and media organisation who run The Portal, various artists in residence to Sunny Govan Radio. The latter though needs a wee Unilocal all to itself. The Portal can also be used as a venue hire which is what brought me to this place. I was kindly invited by Xchange Scotland, a youth-led charity developed by Scottish volunteers and based in The Pearce Institute in Govan. Over the last fortnight I have had a couple of days to teach the foreign exchange volunteers filming techniques. I had got to know them and had fun with the time I spent with them so was more than happy to come along to The Portal as this was their last day in Govan as they are due to leave at the weekend. We were based in the main front room and brought our own food and drinks to share. The room also has a digital projector set up so they could play me some of the films they had shot and some of the photos they took in the edit they had put together. It was a great space and I can guess that the hire costs will probably be reasonable. I have been before but it’s always been a flying visit to Plantation Productions but always found the place to busy with a hive a creative activities happening. A great space and venue for community of Govan.
