Absolutely first class food and service! We were wandering around Kelvinbridge looking for somewhere to eat and happened upon this place. It looks very cosy, casual and inviting with a fresh local scottish menu so we decided to pop in. We were so surprised after we ordered that we were presented with an amuse bouche of a kind of dlightful horseradish and beetroot cracker style thing — gorgeous! We only had mains and had both chosen the same thing — Venison with celeriac, black pudding, cherry and some amazing cheesy creamy mash style purée. It really was amazing. We will definitely be back — perhaps for a more special occasion where we can take longer to dine and sample more of the menu. If you like the Ubiquitus chip, you’ll love this! Don’t let the name fool you — its amazing!

So it seems that everyone is raving about Turnip and enjoy so I was desperate to try it. It was a Sunday night so we thought It would be quiet so we turned up and it’s disappointing I did not enjoy. As soon as we had hit our seats the waiter was taking our drinks, it’s sad to say this was the best part of the service for whole night. The rest was pretty non existent. At one point I remember one of the two servers was leaning against the wall and had to be called to our table a number of times. The service was just simply appalling! Next up was the food. I started with a cauliflower purée with onion chutney this was a very average dish in fact I didn’t realise I had onion chutney until I read it from the menu after I ate it — very bland. For mains I decided to go for the duck, now I wouldn’t normally go for duck but this place definitely looked the part. Well major disappointment, the sauce was so salty(I must have drank a gallon of water for hours after) the duck itself was cooked nice but was just let down by the sides and gravy. Now I was kind of dreading the desserts — we waited and we waited and it arrived, a sticky toffee pudding. One of my stars definitely goes to the dessert and the other for my glass of red wine. The décor and atmosphere is spot on, very modern and nice for a Sunday evening meal however I would find It very difficult to go back!

Turnip & Enjoy. There are a couple of things I need to get off my chest about the name of this restaurant. Firstly its a pun. A very bad pun. Lets leave the puns for the witty Unilocal reviews shall we. Secondly, there was no turnip on the menu and from my understanding turnip does not generally feature heavily on the menu, hence the name of the restaurant is very misleading. I would have been absolutely distraught had I of been a huge turnip fan and had travelled all the way to Turnip & Enjoy only to discover there was not a single turnip product on the menu. Thankfully, I was not in a turnip mood and wanted to have a nice healthy, fishy Sunday dinner. First impressions were great. The plaice itself looked fantastic and the market menu,(3 course for £20) is a great deal. I’d bean wanting to try out T&E for ages, but I would never have though it would have bean such a massive misteak(sorry enough of the bad puns). It was always going to be an easy decision when I saw the Cullen Skink on the menu. Its one of my favourite dishes. However, what was presented to me at T&E was anything but the classic version of the dish. Watery and completely undercooked to the point where the potatoes and onions were crunchy! I left pretty much the entire dish, only selecting out the bits of fish. The staff, didn’t even ask why the food was left over and we made a comment about the fact the soup was not cooked. This was the last we heard about that, no apologies, no nothing. Next up, I decided to go for a miso type Salmon dish. It consisted of a big bowl of what can only can be described as hot soy sauce with a slice of grilled salmon, roast peppers and tofu swimming in it. Its probably the most badly constructed and unbalanced meals I have every eaten. Firstly, it was salty beyond belief(think the Dead Sea levels) and secondly, nothing actually went well together. The sweet roasted peppers, mixed with the salty soy sauce miso soup broth thing and squidgy tofu was soo bad. Perhaps the chef was having an off day, but that dish should not have been served to the public. Luckily we ordered several bottles of water which allowed my salt levels /blood pressure to decrease to a safe level towards the end of the evening. The only passable dish on the night was my sticky toffee pudding, however, by that point, I was pretty miserable having left virtually most of my food. Yup I was now hangry at the END of the meal, not good! It must be said that the wait between courses was pretty long, up to 40 minutes I think. This doesn’t really bother me massively, especially if you are getting a nice plate of home made food. The dishes themselves were beautifully presented, but, as mentioned the execution of my food was woeful. I could tell from other plates of food being ordered that some dishes were far superior to mine. Perhaps I made a bad choice I thought to myself? But, no! Nothing should ever taste BAD in a restaurant and certainly you’d want your food to be cooked. The final nail in the coffin for T&E was that that no attempt was made to rectify the fact that we were served undercooked soup which we complained about. Had this of been taken off the bill, I may have been more forgiving. Let’s face it, we all have off days, but the way things were dealt with means I will not be recommending T&E to anyone.

The décor in Turnip is exactly the same as it was prior to the re-naming. It’s a really lovely environment — exposed brick walls, lovely big vintage mirrors on the walls, fabulous lights and nice big windows. I would say the only negative about the environment was that they only have tables of 4 so our group of 5 had to squeeze round a table of 4. This is where my experience turns really quite sour. The service was dreadful — actually that is unfair, the waiter who dealt with us when we arrived was fine but everything else was on the poor side. Don’t get me wrong our waitress was very nice and polite but there was more than one thing that really irritated our whole group. Let’s start with a positive first — I was starving when I arrived so I asked for some bread which the waiter brought over quickly. It was lovely warm bread served with some olive oil and balsamic. Which was very nice of them since it wasn’t technically on the menu and I was so hungry so I greatly appreciate it. Two of the starters were undercooked… so most of these dishes were left. The waitress never mentioned it so we had to raise the issue with her. She apologised and said she would let the chef know. This was the last we heard about it — disappointingly they charged us full price for them even they weren’t really eaten. We were presented with dessert menus and when no one came back to our table after 10 minutes we started to look to grab someone to order. After a few minutes of trying to catch someones eye we finally succeeded in getting the waitress attention as she was leaning against a wall looking bored… not exactly very nice especially because by this time we were all getting a bit annoyed with the waiting. This is all on top of the fact that in only a half full restaurant we had to wait 15 minutes for starters, 40 minutes for our mains and then 25 minutes for our desserts. For a simple 3 course meal with no special requests on a Sunday night we were in the restaurant for 2 hours and 10 minutes and we didn’t doddle in either ordering our food or after our meal. No explanation or apology was offered for our wait. Sadly at this point I can’t even tell you that much about the food because the lack-luster service and the wait for food is really all I am left with after my experience. I do need to mention that each plate was like a work of art, it all looked delicate and beautifully tempting… I do wonder tho if the length of time between courses is the price for such beautiful plating? With no explanation offered for the delays I can only guess that perhaps it is. To start with I had Stornoway black pudding, slow cooked duck egg and chorizo crumble. It was nice enough and I finished the whole thing although the chorizo crumble was a bit weird, I wasn’t really into the tasty of chorizo in crunchy form — But it was okay and I would order it again. The main was probably the standout dish of the night which was lovely. I ordered the red wine beef stew, corned beef hash, salt baked carrot, pickled mustard leaf and baby onions. The stew was tender and tasty lovely, I particularly liked that because of the way it was presented the outside of the cylinder of stew had a crunchy edge. The carrots were beautiful and the corned beef hash was perfectly smooth and silky. For dessert I went for the dark chocolate torte and salt caramel ice cream. The tiny slither of torte was super rich and dark which I liked. I wasn’t crazy about the oaty flapjack style base which seemed a bit off with the dark lush top. It just seemed wrong to me some how. The ice cream had a really strong salted caramel flavour which was good. By the end of the meal we all just wanted to get out of their fast because the staff could obviously tell we weren’t happy and the atmosphere made us feel a bit awkward. I forgot to take a picture of the bill but for MrG & my share it came to £54 and which included a bottle of red and some still mineral water so it’s not overly expensive. If it was based on my food alone I would go back, but add the issues with a few of the dishes at our table which nothing was done about, combined with the wait for food I probably wouldn’t go back. I can’t remember the last time I left a restaurant feeling so utterly let down and disappointed. This is such a shame because I had heard such wonderful things and had high hopes but my experience was somewhat poor sadly.

So I like the name. I did the turn up part, but sadly the enjoy section was not present tonight. I had expected big things and came away very disappointed with the meal I had. Let’s start with the service. It was completely appalling. So slow, staff seemed very uninterested and I even watched as one of them leant against a wall and stared at the ground whilst I was trying to get their attention. Honestly they did not seem to care in the slightest. The wait between courses was ridiculous. On the food front it was a mixed bag. The starter was Cullen skink and it was terrible. The broth was to watery, the vegetables were under cooked and I found a bone in my soup. I love this dish normally and I was very disappointed. It had clearly not been cooked long enough and I let the waitress know, she said she would tell the chef, but I then never heard another word about it. Shocking disregard for serving a dish that was really not fit for purpose. The main course was really very good. It was a lovely beef stew, with great veg and lovely mash. It was the only good thing about the entire meal and it was very very good. I’m glad because otherwise this would be a one star review. For desert I had a chocolate torte with salted caramel ice cream. It was ok, but the base of the torte was not to my liking. It was some sort of hard oat slab and it really ruined the dessert for me to be honest. The service tonight was an utter joke, the undercooked starter and lack of further discussion on it was a disgrace. The great main just scraped it up to two stars. If you do go, don’t go when your short on time as you could literally go for a nap between courses.

I cannot fault this place at all, apart from being a tad on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for though. The place was just about packed out for a lunchtime. I had 3 courses and every one of them was 5 stars. This place doesn’t serve draught lagers at all, only bottled lagers, but wasn’t a problem for myself though. I’d definitely come back here again.

We just returned from a lovely dinner here. With two vegetarians and me being gluten-free, we called ahead and the restaurant assured us they’d be able to accommodate us all. Upon arrival, we learned that they were out of the one vegetarian dish(tortellini) but that the chef could make a spelt risotto with mushrooms. Unfortunately, one of the vegetarians is allergic to mushrooms, but after a quick consultation with the chef, we learned he could make the spelt risotto with asparagus instead. That sorted, we all started with the artichoke soup, which was lovely. They each ordered a risotto(one mushroom, one asparagus) and I opted for the Sunday roast special, which they altered slightly to make gluten-free(no Yorkshire pudding, and a change in how the cauliflower was prepared.) Out of everything, I was the only one to leave anything on a plate; the roast was a huge dish(see picture) and I wasn’t able to finish. All our food was well-prepared, seasoned nicely and delicious. I really appreciate any restaurant willing to go the extra mile to assure that everyone gets a good meal, despite dietary restrictions, and Turnip and Enjoy did just that. Great service and a lovely meal. We’ll definitely be back! They are planning to launch a separate vegetarian menu in the next few weeks, so veggie folks, keep an eye out for that!

What a smashing wee place! Definitely one of my new favourites for excellent food and a laid back evening. This was a high stakes restaurant pick for me, so there was a lot riding on it being very good. Let me explain. I’m still friends with a bunch of folk from my Uni days. They are mainly doctors and dentists, and our gang is known collectively as The Dentists. I’m not a dentist, nor am I(like they are) married to other doctors/dentists, living a comfortably wealthy life in the ‘burbs. We don’t see much of each other these days because of kids and work and stuff so on the couple of occasions per year when we *do* meet up, it is very special. They tend to fall back on their usual favourites like Gandolfi or The Chip. It’s always decent food, but never worth the money in my opinion, and as I have a lot less of that money stuff than they do, it does grate a bit that we have to go to those places just to meet up. I tend to get over-ruled when suggesting slightly more adventurous places which are also a lot cheaper. So, last week I was delighted that I got to pick the restaurant and was determined to take them somewhere new and interesting to prove that you don’t need to be paying £50+ per head for good food in Glasgow. When I told them I’d chosen Turnip&Enjoy, they were ummmm… politely underwhelmed, I’d say, and I expect there was some eye rolling going on in the background — not enough starched linen and old skool reputation, see? Tough crowd! We rolled up on a midweek evening and I was immediately delighted by the interior — stripped back, bare brick walls, slightly mismatched furniture, not a tablecloth in sight and a happy, buzzy neighbourhood bistro atmosphere. We are not talking silver service either, the service is a bit more ramshackle and laid back than that, and I love that too. My friends asked the waiter to recommend a white wine(drink of the devil, if you ask me, so I wasn’t involved in that conversation) and I was relieved to note how pleasantly surprised they were by the very good wine which they got. The Malbec(?) which I had was beautifully smooth and soft. We were all impressed, too, by the menu. We all ended up ordering from the Market Menu(£19 for 3 courses I think?) because, tbh, we were all struggling to decide between all of the deliciousness on offer on the a la carte so at least the market menu had fewer choices! I started with the black pudding with poached egg and chorizo crumb. Oh my goodness, it was amazing. Meaty, earthy black pudding with the most perfectly poached egg; not runny, not solid, just perfect — an almost paste-like yolk, perfect for slathering unctuously on the black pudding and dipping into the generous topping of crunchy, smoky chorizo crumb. Utterly delicious. Next, I had the pressed beef which again was breathtakingly tasty. It came as a ball positioned in the middle of the plate, the size and shape of an orange. The meat was meltingly tender and juicy like the inside of a good steak pie. It was served with swooshes of celeriac purée and caramelised carrots. A very pretty and delicious dish. I wasn’t planning to have dessert as I was full enough but I’d walked 15 miles that day and it sounded so mighty delicious, I couldn’t refuse. I had the(sort of) lemon tart and it was aMaZiNg! It is a deconstructed affair, beautifully arranged on the plate. First up there is a disc of softly crumbling shortbread biscuit. On top of that there’s a quenelle of the prettiest pink hibiscus ice cream. Spiked into that is a wafer of delicate, thin, golden meringue. Alongside this construction is a fish-finger shaped oblong of creamy, lemony torte, all caramelised on top. The prettiest pud you ever did see. And oh my, it was soooo good. The lemony bit was a perfect balance of sweet, solid creaminess cut through with sharp lemon. The flavour of the hibiscus ice cream was perhaps too delicate and got a bit lost amidst the other deliciousness which was a pity but apart from that: a top notch dessert. The Dentists had to admit it had been a faultless meal with stunning food. I really was taken aback by the quality and interestingness of the dishes. The only minor niggle was that the service had been sooo laid back, it could have been annoyingly slow if you were in a rush. We’d arrived at 7.30 and we left just before 11, so there was no urgency about the service. For our purposes, though, it was great to have the courses spread out, giving us time to chat and enjoy a perfect, relaxed evening. Our bill, for 3 courses plus wine and coffees came to just 28quid per head before tip. An absolute steal. I’m so impressed with Turnip&Enjoy. I will definitely be back. Well done, you guys! Not only are you serving excellent, imaginative food and wine for incredibly reasonable prices, but you also might even have succeeded in opening the eyes of The Dentists, and for that I salute and thank you most heartily.

I am SO glad we finally decided to visit Turnip and Enjoy. Gian has been curious about it for ages and we finally went for a Fridate together(weekly celebration of the beginning of the weekend haha). As we entered the restaurant, we were welcomed by a staff member who seemed to be the owner of the place. He was a very inviting person! The waiter than came to us to serve us and he’s the friendliest lad ever. He seems very passionate about the food in the restaurant! My kind of person! And all the tables were meant for 4 people so me and Gian had like a giant table to ourselves haha. While reading the menu, I wanted to go for the £193 course evening deal but to my horror realised that it was only available Mondays to Thursdays, so I was like«oh fuck» at one point … but then I figured since we haven’t spent that much on luxurious food lately that it was okay to treat ourselves that night! It was well worth it because the food was incredible! Anyway, we ordered some wine to start off and thought deeply about what we felt like trying. The menu was so exciting! Rabbit? Ox cheek? Lamb loin? Artichoke soup? Crusted cod? I wanted it ALL! Eventually we decided, for appetisers I went with the rabbit and langoustine(which had a hint of rose in the broth) while Gian had blackened mackerel(with a touch of orange). These flavours were so special! My rabbit medallions were extremely soft, as if I was eating scallops, and Rose was so delicate! Gian’s dish was a tad more robust and smokey! For mains, I had the the almondine crusted cod and Gian, the lamb loin. Again, we must’ve been pretty instinctive with our choices because mine was so light in flavour but so savoury at the same time(does this make sense?!) and blended well with their lemon confit! Because my fish was so soft, their choice of veges for my dish gave it a lovely texture comparison. And gian’s lamb loin was very strong and loud with flavours! Which came with croquette, peas and rhubarb, which balanced out the robustness of the lamb. UGHSOGOOD. We couldn’t say no to dessert after that glorious dinner right?! I chose the lemon tart with hibiscus sorbet, and Gian, who’s avoiding dairy at the moment, got an off-the-menu dessert of coconut sesame sorbet! Absolutely beautiful way of ending our dinner experience! These desserts were so fresh and cleanses your palette in such a tasteful manner. :’) I want more. Out of curiousity, we ask the waiter what the wee details in the coconut sesame sorbet were(I shall specify which I’m talking about in the photos). He went to the chef to ask and moments later, he explained that the wee sweet garnishes were basically crystallised white chocolate, glucose and gluten-free sugars that were made over a course of a few hours in the kitchen! So much energy and time to prepare literally a tiny part of the dessert! So much respect! Anyway, I loved everything about this restaurant. The food was excellent. Staff were kind and accommodating(and super passionate), the ambience was lovely and relaxing. I must say that when given the chance, I will definitely go back(they change their menu every 3−4months to keep things exciting)! I will bring other people to this restaurant too! And I recommend others to do the same!

Until this year I thought this place was still a café but thanks to Unilocal I discovered it’s become a restaurant serving«modern European» cuisine. It recently changed it’s name from Enjoy to Turnip & Enjoy and this heightened my curiousity even more! I booked a table for lunch on a Friday afternoon and opted for the three course market menu which costs a very reasonable £15.95. The market menu is available at lunchtime and in the evening from Sunday to Thursday. It’s actually quite similar to the A la carte with a few different dishes so it’s a good introduction to the restaurant’s food. I opted for the corned beef terrine with pickled turnip(yes there are a couple of nods to turnip on the menu but it’s not the main feature!) and crispy ox tongue and duck egg yolk. I was tempted by the artichoke soup but it was just too hot outside to contemplate soup. The dishes here are presented beautifully and it’s worth taking time to try each individual flavour on the plate and then combine them to your liking. The duck egg was too rich for me but the terrine was good and I liked the unusual addition of the turnip. For the main course I had the almondine crusted cod with confit lemon, jersey royals, tenderstem brocoli and crab. It was so light and delicious. The almonds and the lemon really went well together. For dessert it was a «sort of» lemon tart with hibiscus ice cream and rhubarb. I wondered what sort of meant, turns out that you get some lemon mousse on a shortbread biscuit base. I’m a rhubarb obsessive and I loved the sweet and tangy combination, another fresh and clean tasting dish. The restaurant itself is mid-sized which I really liked, not too cramped and not too empty even when it’s quiet. It’s bright and airy and feels smart but relaxed. The service is very polite but they’re also happy to chat if you want to. I’d recommend this place if you want a fancy meal in relaxed surroundings. If they were looking for a corny motto to go with the restaurant name I’d suggest«savour the flavour» it’s worth taking time over the food as some of the flavours are quite delicate but very enjoyable. I hope I get to return soon!

I was a fan of Enjoy, and now they’ve added a Turnip into the mix so I needed to head back to investigate the change. It actually doesn’t seem like much has changed apart from the menu — even the main sign out the front still just says Enjoy. Nonetheless, they do a two course set menu for lunch for £12.95 which I got to try with the lovely Susan F. I had exactly 1 hour to get in, get my food and get out again — I don’t normally like to be so rushed but my schedule was a little manic that day. I remembered looking at the clock and it was pretty much on 1pm when we ordered(I needed to be elsewhere by 2pm) so I didn’t expect two courses to be an issue in that time. I ordered jerusalem artichoke soup, white truffle oil as a starter, and then almondine crusted crusted cod, jersey royals, crab, romanesco, confit lemon for main. The waiter joked that my order was what everyone else in the restaurant had been ordering too, and that Susan was the only adventurous person in the place. It was about a 20 minute wait for starters which was making me a little edgy but I was really pleased with it — a thick, creamy soup with the lovely waft of truffle oil and served with a thick slice of crusty brown bread. Our plates were cleared and it was perhaps another 15 minutes for mains to arrive. That being said, you can see why the food takes a while here — there’s a really high attention to detail, and I can’t fault the cod main. It was perfectly cooked, delicate and the almond crust was just heavenly. I liked the variety of salad leaves on the plate too. It was right on 2pm by the time we finished so I sadly had to make a very hasty exit. I would definitely return here but not when I was pressed for time so I could properly enjoy it! The restaurant was pretty busy for a Wednesday and it was just being looked after by one staff member which also explains the relaxed pace.

After recently rebranding and renaming, Enjoy Restaurant is now capturing a lot of media focus as Turnip & Enjoy — fine dining in a casual setting at the heart of the West End of Glasgow. So, naturally, Sam and I decided to pop along last weekend to get a taste of their new seasonal menu. Situated just opposite Lansdowne Crescent, the restaurant is quite small, but beautifully decorated in a chic, elegant style. Large decorative chandeliers hang from the ceiling, with exposed brick walls and simple wooden tables, giving a real charm to the place. We sat down and had a look at the menu, at which Sam didn’t seem very enthused, but decided to be adventurous and go for the Rabbit and Langoustine starter, while I opted for the Jerusalem artichoke soup, with pork dumplings and truffle oil, along with a bottle of Australian Shiraz between us. The starters arrived pretty promptly, and both were beautifully presented. My soup was smooth and creamy, with little explosions of truffle every time I hit a drop of the indulgent oil. The pork dumplings in the centre of the soup were meaty and delicious, giving a hint of saltiness that the soup needed. The dumplings I could have had ten more of, but I found the soup a little too creamy and in need of a good pinch of salt. For the main, I ordered the Beef Rib-Eye, with salt baked celeriac, charred asparagus and an ‘ox cheek and smoked oyster pie.’ I can’t stand oysters, but I thought I’d be adventurous, and the risk definitely paid off! The rib eye was perfectly cooked — medium rare — and the salt baked celeriac complimented it perfectly, along with the lovely, meaty jus the beef was swimming in. The ‘pie’ looked more like a spring roll; a crisp, delicate roll of filo pastry filled with shredded ox cheek and I assume smoked oyster, although I certainly couldn’t taste it. The ox cheek though was so tender; it melted in the mouth and had bags of flavour. The only thing about my plate I wasn’t a fan of, was the spinach, which was a little too buttery for me. I was glad to find that despite his reservations, Sam absolutely loved his main course, which was the Almondine Crusted Cod, with jersey royals, crab and confit lemon. The fish was perfectly cooked, flaky and soft, and the crumb gave it texture. He even enjoyed the crab, which he always assumed before he hated! For dessert, because we couldn’t bring ourselves to share, we both ordered the Dark Chocolate Torte, with granola and salted caramel ice cream. This, for me, was the highlight of the meal, but then I do have a serious sweet tooth! Sticking out the top of the ice cream was a tuile of what I can only describe as white chocolate flavoured salted caramel. I don’t know if such a thing is even possible, but that’s what it tasted like. It cracked as soon as you bit into it, but then immediately turned into a chewy, toffee-like consistency that tasted of white chocolate, with a hint of salt. It was stunning. The ice cream was a perfect balance of salt and sweet, and it complimented the rich chocolate torte perfectly. The granola turned out to be the base of the torte, which we both agreed didn’t quite work, as instead of being a crunchy or crumbly base, it became slightly chewy. Nevertheless, the tart itself was rich, dark and delicious! It definitely seemed that with each course, the quality of the food got better and better. My starter was fairly average, my main delicious and my dessert stunning. I think if you are a lover of seafood, you’ll love Turnip & Enjoy, although if not you could find yourself a little limited. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the service was quick but didn’t feel rushed. It’s not somewhere that I would absolutely rush back to, but it’s definitely somewhere I would recommend trying!

Quite simply a taste of sunshine! From the décor, to the service, to the food, I was transported straight to the Med. Turnip & Enjoy offers an adventurous menu with a nod towards fine dining but somehow manages to do all this within a relaxed & pleasant atmosphere. I visited on a Wednesday lunchtime without a booking and over the course of my meal, the tables steadily started to fill and so it may be wise to call ahead just incase. I opted for the two course lunch for £12.95. For this I got a starter of confit trout with gnocchi Nero(blackened gnocchi) and wild leeks and a main of nettle and pine nut tortellinis, squash velouté & curds. Both were beautifully presented with edible wild flowers & gorgeous fresh colour. You’re pretty much guaranteed to find something innovative on the menu to try & I was really impressed with the standard of dish presented — the key being the fresh local produce. Extremely tasty & portion sizes just right — shall return for sure. Special shout out to the waiter who was lovely with just the right level of attentiveness/patter.
