What’s not to love about the Wee Lochan? Perfect for relaxed, intimate dining, the Wee Lochan consistently serves up high quality, delicious food. I honestly fell in love with the Goats Cheese Soufflé! (I also love the stories printed on the inside of each menu — be prepared to take some extra time to read all the different ones at your table!)

September 2014 Borne out of An Lochan, the Wee Lochan is a quaint little restaurant in the Broomhill area of the West End. I’m not really sure of the history of the place and whether it’s the same owners as before(or whether there are any links with an Argyll hotel with a very similar name); perhaps these are questions for next time… We turned up for lunch without a booking(as seems to be our way these days!) as we had actually intended to try Don Costanzo in the Park Area for the first time. However, it was closed when we arrived(1220), despite the website saying it was open, so we’ve still not been there. We sat in the car for a few minutes trying to think of an alternative lunch spot and were soon en route to Broomhill as we realised we hadn’t been to An Lochan since the name change(or ownership change.?). We were soon sitting at one of the three available tables with some ice cold water and some lovely bread rolls and butter. The restaurant was almost full of a variety of patrons and the general buzz was good. Mrs Glasgowscran had her obligatory glass of white wine whilst I, the driver, had a refreshing fresh orange and lemonade. We poured over the menu and I opted to start with the Cullen Skink and Mrs G the scallops with pancetta and pea purée. The Skink was very good; nice and hot with beautiful chunks of fresh fish. It was one of the nicest Skinks I’d had for a while and I certainly do enjoy a Skink(careful!). Mrs G loved her starter. She’s got an obsession with scallops and will rarely see past them if they’re on the starter menu! The combination of the scallops, pancetta and pea(classic) made for a mouth-watering(I tasted it) plate. Yes, we were both very happy thus far. For mains, Mrs Glasgowscran had ordered the pigeon, from the starter menu, which sounded fantastic(we’ve been eating a fair bit of pigeon recently due to a hunter-gatherer at my work and have really been enjoying it; very underrated meat). The friendly front of house staff member came and explained that there had been a mix up with their supplier and they had sent partridge rather than pigeon. Rather than simply giving Mrs G the menu and asking her to choose something else, the lovely lady showed real interest and concern; she enquired as to whether Mrs G fancied something gamey and then suggested the venison from the dinner menu. This was not normally available at lunch but it showed there was a genuine desire to appease the customer in the face of a slight hiccup. The venison came with dauphinoise potatoes, parsnip purée, green beans and figs rolled in bacon(we think, Mrs G wasn’t a fan of these). The dish was finished off with a tasty gravy. Other than the figs in bacon Mrs G loved this dish which certainly satisfied her desire for game! I had ordered the Thai-style fish(I can’t for the life of me remember whether it was cod or monkfish… My hunch is the latter. I must start jotting things down!) served in a coconut broth with fragrant rice and tempura prawns and spring onion. This dish was superb. It was very authentic tasting with a perfect level of spice; the tempura prawns and spring onion were simply lovely. The portion size was generous and I could not stop myself from devouring every last grain of rice. As per usual we were not up to the task for trying to devour dessert, despite the options sounding very nice… All in all a lovely lunch. We were impressed not only with the quality of the food, but also the reaction of the front of house staff in order to overcome a mix up with the food they could actually put before us. On top of this, they charged us the price the starter pigeon would have been for the venison. This was actually less than half the price the venison sold at. I can’t emphasise enough that this act really did leave a pleasant taste in our mouth(both literally and figuratively) and we will certainly be back shortly. Well done Team Wee Lochan.

Stumbled across this place by pure chance just driving past. I expected a little coffee shop type café however was surprised at the choice of meals on offer when presented with the menu. My partner started with the rabbit and enjoyed it very much, I myself began with the Cullen skink, now this is usually a hit and miss in places, normally very little haddock, very watery and no real flavour from the salt or smokiness of the fish, this was not the case here … I have to say it’s the best I’ve had in years and certainly the best in Glasgow My partner went on to the pan fried sea bream which was a delight and my smoked salmon on potato waffle was very good, only negative was the potato waffle was a little stodgy in the middle I got a coffee after while my partner enjoyed a chocolate tart, she loved it, I would say my coffee was Luke warm. They need to learn to warm the cup before pouring the coffee into cold crockery All in all I’d say it’s a gem of a find and I look forward to sampling the rest of their menu

Probably my favourite restaurant of all time. They don’t just produce the most amazing food once or twice, they never fail to impress. Consistency is a hard thing to find in even the best of restaurants — not an issue for the Wee Lochan. Staff friendly and polite. Décor contemporary but homely. What can I say other than we’re very lucky we’re just a short walk away! Just one thing … always BOOK!

Absolutely amazing! Service as well. Had the starter that consisted of salmon on top a tart which was just fantastic! Main course was the pan fried pork medallions served over mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, seared green beans, and a side of rocket greens. Lovely décor and atmosphere to go with the meal. Definitely coming again and will recommend to anyone who enjoys a good bite. Nothing but positive things to say! 5 stars!

The food here is heavenly. You can tell so much thought and care is put into each dish. I came in time for the pre-theatre dinner that lasts from 5 — 6:30pm and offers great deals. I had 2 courses for £14.95 and both dishes were superb. The restaurant is small which gives it an intimate feel and the lighting makes you feel warm and cozy. It seems to be a good idea to book a table because it fills up, but once you try the food you will understand why. Everything about this place screams quality. Next time I go I am definitely saving room for dessert!

Tried wee lochan for Sunday dinner, we were not disappointed for starters, I had the black pudding, she had the ham terrine, for mains I had the roast beef, which hardly needed a knife, she had the garlic chicken, followed by the ice cream, I had the hot chocolate pudding, I washed down my excellent dinner a half caraf of yummy Malbec . We will be going back to try there other menu . The only slight niggle I have, is they don’t have beer/lager on draught.

For a long time, this seemed to be Glasgow’s best kept secret — the shy little sister to the wonderful An Lochan in Tighnabruaich. Since the re-brand, it has become a destination of choice — you can struggle to get a table on a Monday Lunchtime, so it is always worth booking in advance. The menu is fresh and inventive and largely manages to steer clear of contemporary foodie cliches and unnecessary Michelin-aspiring flourishes. Great use of Scottish ingredients, game and seafood in particular, and some interesting ‘fusion’ approaches, but nothing too clever-clever. The desserts are also superb — a deconstructed tart tatin with vanilla ice cream is the best I have ever tasted. The wine selection is quite thoughtful and eclectic, balancing staples with some more quirky and imaginative options, including a couple of superb dessert wines — the glass-with-each-course option is great value for money and a real treat. Wee Lochan is a great asset to the neighbourhood — a quality restaurant within staggering distance of home!

I went for dinner here with my cousin and auntie and was very impressed. I live just around the corner and had been meaning to go here for a while. I have to say I was not disappointed. To start I had the fish tempura which was delicious and served with a very intriguing accompaniment of leeks and a potato cake. This was followed by lamb with colcannon, again the lamb was cooked perfectly and plenty of mash which is always important. I was disappointed as I was too full for a pudding but this means I will have to go back soon and try one!

Wee Lochan is just a 10 minute walk from flat which makes it super handy! This was my first time here and I don’t think it’s the type of place to turn up without bookings since it’s seems really popular The atmosphere is very laid back, no background music on, just the general chat to be heard. I ordered the monkfish tail tempura which was amazing and I could have eaten another ten times over, Stuart had the Cullen Skink to start and said it was the best he had ever tasted! Main courses were Lamb Tangine which came with sweet potato and other well cooked veg, the main course portions are a good size, however I always manage to leave a wee bit of room for a pudding We both had the Rhubarb crumble which came with ice cream and again I would have licked the plate if I could it was just delicious! Can’t wait to go back here!!!

We first came here five years ago(was it really that long?) when it was still ‘An Lochan’. I heard a rumour that they changed the name because people kept asking them who ‘An’ was… are people really that thick? It’s changed a lot since then — physically there seem to be more tables than I remember, and the menu is now a single-page affair of broad-spectrum Scottish fare including meat dishes, whereas before it was a multi-page seafood-only extravaganza. I still fondly remember the shared seafood platter… mmmmm. However, although the menu may have downsized, the quality is still as high as ever. I started with crab spring rolls with a chilli jam dip, which were light and very tasty, followed by a Thai-style seafood medley in coconut sauce, which managed to carry a fair degree of kick without overwhelming the delicate flavours of the fish. Delicious. Herself had scallops to start, which were really fresh and cooked to perfection, and followed this with the lemon sole with salmon mousse. I had been tempted by this, but when it arrived I was quite glad I hadn’t picked it as it looked a bit too creamy for my taste. Yet it disappeared without trace so clearly was appreciated! We were both hungry enough to manage a dessert — Herself had a kiwi and mango pavlova that seemed absolutely huge; I went for an intriguing coffee jelly in brandy snap basket with caramel sauce, although I declined the clotted cream option. I wasn’t sure about the coffee jelly as it was a very different taste, but maybe it would grow on me over time. Overall, a fantastic meal; good portions, superb presentation, perfectly cooked and generally scrumptious all round. Although it was pretty full when we arrived for the early evening shift, the staff were attentive and helpful at explaining everything on the menu(to my disappointment, it turned out that a ‘financier’ on the dessert menu had nothing to do with accountants). The chairs are sumptuous and comfortable, although some could do with replacing as the seats are getting a bit on the saggy side; luckily cushions had been provided for those that were a bit too far gone. Oh — and there’s a giant pink and yellow raffia giraffe called Felicity in the gent’s loo… I have no idea why, but it’s quirky and I like it.

A Scottish seafood restaurant situated between Anniesland and Partic An Lochan is jewel in the crown of Scottish cuisine. It was actually my grandfather who took me here,(a favourite of his). The food is of an excellent standard and I highly recommend anybody who has a pallet for Scottish or seafood to be sure to dine here. The food is of exceptional standard and the staff are very friendly.
