With the recent addition of a sainsburys store just outside I’m sure these guys are starting to feel the pinch where as before there was less competition. Every time l call in here there seems to be a price hike of some sort, with only a last resort coming here. This morning l bought two small bottles of juice & a bounty &5.00, I will have to make sure I leave earlier in the morning to grab one of the bigger shops in town. An ok shop if you have lots of money to burn.

On visit to this store i found it to be a disgrace, on research of the store the same findings were produced. What store still finds it acceptable to except there female employees to where skirts and male employee to have no beards? What store charges a penny for a bag and says it goes towards a charity when really it only does that after its paid back the price of the bags to buy them in, meaning you would have to sell invisible bags to make a profit for charity, and what store will NOLONGEREMPLOYPEOPLEOUTSIDEOFGLASGOW as this poses as an inconvenience to management when trying to get overtime and late nights covered… WH Smith. They Don’t offer reward schemes for staff, and in 2008 the head woman CUTPENSIONS so she could earn her bonus. Made staggering profits last year but thought now is the time to put store prices up again and stop paying staff breaks, but this is a company who has an amazing rate for employing under 18s as there rate of pay is less, and don’t forget the 12.5% discount staff get on books and stationery, not confectionery or anything else, nor anything free for there tea breaks. They don’t have anything particularly healthy in this branch, and the things they do have — nuts and the odd non-fizzy drink are in range of £1.99 minimum. The staff have to sell you Dairy Milk and scan a ‘voucher’ through the till in each transaction, this would be expected to reap them some benefit but does not, it keeps them in employment. All of this information is fact, you can see by researching for youself or even asking staff as yu can tell they are in no happy circumstances with there work and you will see this really is a very very simply bad store.

W H Smith know what they’re doing, which is why their prices have gone through the roof over the past couple of years. It’s really hard to view them objectively, since although they are a commodity in places like these you are also inherently aware of being ripped off. Since when was it a pound for a chocolate bar? It’s fairly obvious the recession has a way to go before it gets that bad. This branch of W H Smith is particularly insulting because it isn’t even very practical. I can’t remember the last time I saw anything of substance in here — they usually only sell chocolate and crisps for bank breaking prices. They have a good collection of magazines but when you’re caught short for necessities such as, dare I say it, tampons, they have been known to run out in the past. What’s more, if you manage to acquire such items they are usually WAY too expensive. Like you’re being punished for being a girl, well thanks very much. I used to have respect for W H Smith as a chain — now I think it’s daylight robbery and try to avoid it like the plague. But if I ever need something other than ridiculously priced sweets when going for the bus, I utilise the other newsagents within the station. This branch doesn’t have many practical uses as far as I can see.

I have purchased goods from here far more often than I would have liked. When you have to quench that thirst and only have 5 minutes until your bus you have little choice between this overpriced WH Smith and just as expensive convenience stores also in the bus station. Since this is the first one I come across and also the biggest(though don’t be mislead — it is smaaaall) I usually opt for here in the hope of offers. I don’t think I have ever benefitted from one of their offers right enough. So they stock all the usual mags and newspapers, some sweets and drinks as well as a little stationary(I randomly once purchased printer paper here when living nearby and in a panic). However, you pay dearly for the convenience. How dare someone charge me extra for my absolute need(absolute need) for a wispa merely because I’m in a bus station? Then again if these shops weren’t here I would have no chocolate! Oh woe is me.
