Great night with friends. Suddenly turned from bar to nightclub/disco at 8pm. Lots of atmosphere…

It boggles my mind that this place is still open despite the fact I don’t know of a single person who would willingly go here for any sort of enjoyment. Yates is one of those Wetherspoons type places except worse, dirtier and the food isn’t as good. I’ve been in here twice in my life and both times I was really looking forward to no longer being there. I wouldn’t rate this place at all. The staff are unpleasant, the food is plain and meh, and the place itself just has this horrible feel to it. I’d take yourself somewhere else; this street has at least 50 other places.

I once had the misfortune of hitting Yates before the ABC a couple of times, purely because of it’s proximity. What my friends and I didn’t realise was that it was also in proximity to Jumpin’ Jaks. A place I didn’t even know still eulxisted. It’s like a meatmarket, full of giro benders, hen and stag parties and women who should definitely be investing in a pair of those spanx knickers. The tables are minging, it takes ages to get served at the bar and the floor is sticky. I hate these pub establishments that try to be clubs. It’s not happening. My friends and I didn’t even have a drink, we got in, stood at the bar for ten minutes and then left. What a disgusting place, avoid at all costs! And don’t let promises of cheap drinks fool you, I ordered a vodka cranberry which came with no ice and I think, floaters, which was £3.75. For a warm vodka and cranberry.

Hard to disagree with what’s gone before here on Unilocal in terms of this place. Yates«Wine Lodge», or Yatseez as it’s commonly referred to it by its clientele, is only a mildly acceptable place to frequent for a cheap, no thrills pub lunch. Otherwise, one to be avoided. Cheap drink can generally get you a long way but even the cash conscious students of Glasgow tend to give this place bodyswerve. A middle-aged meatmarket at the weekend, it’s also a little on the rough side and things can get pretty rowdy. However, in saying all this, Yates doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t. Its situation next to Jumpin Jacks is probably strategic and it’s basically there to be a big, daft pub for whoever wants it.

Another one of those soulless bar’s that could be mistaken for any of the other number of soulless bar’s across the UK. Nothing much doing here, the bar has all the style of a littlewoods catalogue and to be honest, so do the clientele… hen party, quick duck!!! Yes they always have food deals on, but really its just microwave crap, cheap and nasty stuff. No real excuse to go hear i’m afraid, especially not with the amount of kick ass places in close proximity. Boo to thee Yates, boo.

Not the most popular place on Unilocal, seemingly. And understandably so. Cheap booze will inevitably get people drunk. This place however is predominantly packed with older than your student-age clientelle who perhaps go even more over board at the weekends. Foodwise, you get what you pay for, and for a cheap lunch you could do worse. They do outdoor seating in good weather which is also nice. The place doesn’t have the most welcoming atmosphere however and it can get rowdy later on, though not as rowdy as the one down nearer Glasgow Central on West George Street. Plenty of other places on Sauchiehall Street you could start your night off with.

Though not as bad as the horrendous Goose on Union Street, Yates is not a pleasant place to have a drink. During the weekend it’s a haven for skanky hen parties and lager louts. during my visit on a Tuesday it was fairly empty except a headcase at the pool table who was behaving in that weird«aggressive in a friendly way» to the other customers. Good drinks deals though and they don’t use cheap brands, so get a star for that.

Yates is not a classy establishment. In fact, it is far from it. The aforementioned sticky carpets, the dim lighting, the music and the staff all amount to a nasty experience! It’s filled with the dregs of society — those who aren’t passed out on the floor, or being sick, are generally being drunk and loud. Or dancing(this is not a club people). Don’t be drawn in by the cheap drinks — it’s all a ruse… trust me. My advice: hit Wetherspoons instead.

Maybe it’s because I’ve got a touch of the cold, or freshers’ flu if you speak student lingo, but today I’m having a tendency to review some pretty bleak places. There isn’t much going for Yates. In fact, this branch looks like the tenth circle of hell, complete with sticky carpets. Recently, the chain ran a vodka Red Bull promotion. There were only two drawbacks: 1. You had to enter Yates. 2. You had to drink vodka Red Bull.

always a good atmosphere in yates might not be the best place in glasgow but good for pre club drinks always very busy on fridays and saturdays so go early if you want seats theres a dance floor up the back so always a good laugh and then move on to a club they close at 12. also good food.

Great drinks promos, average surroundings, but great staff. Good for a pre-club drink or two, wouldn’t spend the whole evening here though.

Quite a big Yates up on Sauchiehall Street, you will usually find a large group of students taking advantage of the cheap drink as it is in close proximity to some Halls and also quite a few clubs, The Garage to name but one. A good sized dancefloor area, cant really fault this Yates at all — good service, good food and cheap drink!
