Went to look at garden patio sets. Saw one very reasonable for £129.99 with a card saying that they could deliver for £8.95. Upon asking a friendly but very inexperienced lad about this he went to ask Customer Services and they said the delivery charge was £28(why advertise on the patio set a cheaper delivery)!! I live just four minutes drive away. Therefore we measured the packed items and then our car and decided that we would be able to get it in with a push. Our next obstacle was to get a large flat trolley in order to take it to checkout and car. Not one in sight asked two assistants outside where they are normally kept who said they did not know where one was and did not offer any help. We left shall go elsewhere. Maybe B&Q where staff are well trained and extremely helpful.

As DIY stores go, this is one of the most depressing! The staff are grumpy and the stock is pricey in comparison to other local stores. The major saving grace of this shop is their clearance section upstairs! The discount there are pretty good — and you can pick up some real bargains(if you are prepared to look). The garden centre is usually pretty well stocked, although quite often the plants look in desperate need of some water! Customer Service in this shop is rubbish — the staff actually blank you rather than acknowledging your presence! There is ample parking on this site, especially now that Comet has moved to St Oswalds. There isn’t really enough of a reason to make a special effort to go to Homebase. The shop does stock furniture and bathroom suites as well as DIY materials/tools.
