I read a review in the paper about Daylesford Farmshop, where the author joked that the Comte cheese was so expensive(and, presumably, so good) that he almost felt the need to barter his son’s shoes for it. So, yes, be prepared to pad your wallet in advance of a visit. And yet, and yet — this is a culinary country Disneyland for foodies. Two thumbs — nay, two FORKS — up! The grounds are beautiful: there is a post marked for«dog parking», ample car parking, and perfectly manicured boxwoods and greens. There is the farmshop itself which sells seafood(think: smoked and fresh salmon), deli items(think: truffled salami and enormous scotch eggs), bakery goods(think: sourdough with tiny specks of root vegetable and chocolate-dipped florentines). Special shout-outs go to the prepared food section(holla, beet-and-bacon soup!) and the cheese room(yes, room) where you might be tempted to hold your breath as you ogle the range of smelly and not-so-smelly deliciousness. Within the Farmshop there is a quick takeaway counter for superbly strong Americanos and baked goods on-the-go. The chocolate orange bar, with a tangy under-layer of marmalade comes highly recommended. Daylesform Farmshop also has a sit-down Café(very popular, complete with long communal farm tables) and a Garden section featuring homegoods, plants, knick-knacks and kitchen items in the style of «quality rustic refined heritage country shabby chic»(it’s not an official design term, but let’s just roll widdit). There are Cookery classes to boot(hope you’re reading Ma; my birthday’s coming up!). It is a super-dreamy place. Double points for friendly staff and other customers(one man beside me rolled his Rs in excitement when he ordered an «organic brrrrrrrrrrownie!». Now that’s love). Unilocal note: heads up — this place *will* make you want to move to the country, buy some wellies to wear with a Barbour jacket, and live in close proximity to never-ending green vistas and Daylesford’s pressed apricot nectar.

The perfect find after a beautiful drive through the winding country roads of the Cotswolds. The grounds remind me of a winery in Sonoma County… a place you feel you can take deep breaths, calm yourself and eat and drink yummy stuff so you leave feeling good inside and out. Definitely will go back, definitely recommend.
