Percy Arms

A group of us stayed at the Percy Arms for a weekend to attend and celebrate our friend’s wedding in nearby Albury. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and pleasant, especially Ally the manager. We stayed in a suite which was lovely (a very cool South African theme throughout) and very reasonably priced. The breakfast each morning was hearty and delicious. We were travelling with our 9-​month old which can be difficult, and they went above and beyond to be helpful — set up a crib in advance, brought up a fan when the room was hot, and even delivered coffee to our room the morning after the wedding without us even asking. A truly enjoyable stay that I would highly recommend!

I booked dinner and B&B here for a romantic break for me and my wife. We arrived at. 7.30 pm, were greeted straight away, taken to our room and then had a quick beer at the bar before dinner.
Overall the staff were very attentive, the beer, wine and food were all excellent and at £95 for B&B, great value. My wife and I spent about another £90 on food and drink, which was again, I feel, reasonably priced.
For dinner both my wife and I had 3 courses, she had salted squid, I had a S African sausage starter; I had rump steak for main and my wife had a S African dish; we both had Eaton Mess for pud (a huge portion but we both managed to finish off), washed down with lovely pudding wine.
Breakfast was also well presented, high quality food and finished off a great little break.

Always very good food, especially meat. Great deal on Sunday carvery. Good for the family, and near lovely country walks. Yes, service is kind of slow, but there is a nice play area for the kids, so you can enjoy your pint!

I was a bit nervous about going as the reviews on other sites were fairly negative when it came to the service. Unfortunately this fear was realised. Now admittedly we went on a bank holiday monday on a fine summers days, so it was very busy. The problem is that there are so many tables outside that it just can not cope with that many people. However the lack of staff to compensate for this unforgivable really. It took nearly 30mins to get served at the bar. only 2 people serving was ridiculous. Food took 1.5 hours to come. The proverbial icing on the cake was asking to check whether the ice cream had egg in it, as my daughter is allergic, and was told it did have egg. So ordered the sorbet… only for a ball of sorbet AND ice cream to turn up! The waitress tried to explain it was not the kitchens fault but the bar staff who rang it through… I COULDN’T CARE whose fault it was!
Now for the good stuff. The food is actually pretty good. with a south african twist to the menu. The smokey joe burger was a particular highlight! The outdoor space is great for kids to run about, and there is a climbing frame and bouncy castle when we were there. My advice is to avoid on Sunny weekends which is a shame

We were doing one of our «Time Out Country Walks» (#14) and although this wasn’t the recommended lunch stop, I’d read about it and liked the idea of a South African BBQ.
We arrived with our dog and although they don’t allow her in the actual restaurant, we were able to sit in the bar area and order food from there. It was a very busy day, yet the bar staff served us quickly and even had the chance for a friendly chat with us.
We ordered biltong (dry-​cured meat) and boerewors (a type of sausage) as starters and then I had the minced Rump burger, whereas my other half ordered the chicken roulade. All of the items were quite tasty and I do applaud the management on that.
Nevertheless, I didn’t really like the atmosphere at the Percy Arms. To me, it was really too «done up» — it didn’t feel real in there… I didn’t feel comfortable. The pub looks quite old from the outside, but the inside doesn’t reflect this at all.

This place has very very good food and the bar staff are good at making you very welcome and they have a very nice garden area which makes all the difference. I must come here again. …

Visited here today, what a lovely pub. The food, atmosphere and staff were great. Super friendly staff made the meal a joy. We did have to wait a little longer than expected for most things, but there were 15 of us also it was really busy. However the whole time there was a great experience… and with Sundays having a great carvery and BBQ i would def go here again. The pub also has a south African feel with items on the menu and certain de-​core.

Been here a couple of times now, and for the price, pretty bloody impressed with the steak. Yes, I like it rare. The first steak I had here was on a par with gaucho grill, which is good for about £18. Rib-​eye with the fat melted into the meat. Top notch.
This place also has outside seating for the summer, and if you’re very lucky you’ll spy some of the super hot bar staff, although I’ve never spotted them.
Well worth a look for a better steak that you’re likely to find in Guildford. And only a few miles drive away.

The Percy Arms is a classy restaurant/​pub in the beautiful English countryside with a fine-​dining feel inside and a patio with grand views of the green, stretching hills of Surrey outside. The food was delicious and pints cold and fresh — a relaxing place for lunch or dinner if you’re in the area.
A bit on the pricey side, but not prohibitively so. Friendly staff. Good times.
