The good: The exterior of this ancient pub is a delight and if it is a nice day sitting at the front is to be desired. The just ok; The interior is obviously in keeping with the age of the pub(and rightly so) but looks a little drab and when we visited during the day the interior was pitch dark and very uninviting as a result(I know it’s day time but put some lights on maybe?). It was a hot May day and there was a roaring log fire which was another turn off(but a great feature in winter no doubt) The bad: I had a very hotly anticipated pint of TEA. I used to live in the area so know this tipple well. It was a very poor pint which had a sour undertaste. Perhaps the pipes weren’t cleaned or something. Anyway, I can’t damn all their beers from this single pint and sometimes a bad pint is how it goes, but I wasn’t left terribly impressed.

Recommended. But, they WILL add a 7% tip to your bill even for bad service. Three stars due to location, décor, and food. Service was minimal. Food was good but not memorable. Décor is cozy old country pub which includes outside dinning. Full bar. Not inexpensive, dinner for four € 125 Can get crowded reservations are in order. And, parking may be along the road side. Be prepared.

Visited the Withies Inn while on a trip to the UK on business. I loved the place. We don’t have many places like this in the US. We had a great meal and were treated very well by the staff. Had a few pints to top off the evening.

My boyfriend took me for dinner here one night not so long ago. It is the most perfectly charming country pub. Dark, candle lit, atmospheric, romantic, and just… perfect. They have a fabulous wine list, with super chilled wine(this is so so important, and so many restaurants get this wrong!), and beautiful, hearty portions of food. I had the sea bass — would recommend! mmmmm. In summer I can imagine that sitting out in the large beer garden would be just a delight. in fact, i am going to ensure that i do that one afternoon/evening in the summer next year. I loved this place so much, and often find myself thinking about it. Definitely my favourite date night, ever.

ONEREVIEW?! The Withies is by far the best country restaurant/inn/pub in the UK, if not one of the best places I have eaten in the world. If I could give this place 10+ stars I would. It is the hidden gem of Guildford, and much of my childhood was blissfully spent enjoying this pub and garden atmosphere. It’s all about the ambiance the staff and waiters are exceedingly friendly, the atmosphere inside is cozy with low wooden beams and other period features along with a roaring fireplace for the cold winter nights. You might even bump into some celebrities hiding away here.(I once accidentally hit Chris Evans in the back while here) In the summer though this place really holds it’s own, the gardens are beautiful with seating outside in vine laced pagodas, many people come here after bicycle rides and enjoy the limited British sunshine wine and buzzing bees amongst the flowers. I still have dreams about this place it’s so beautiful. Food wise I enjoy the fresh asparagus drizzled with melted butter, and the duck with orange sauce, truly delicious! Be sure to try their homemade crisps too. Just don’t let the waiters drown your plate in fresh vegetables because they will! The hungry kitten says: Thanks Withies for being there for me when I was a child and a troubled teenager! Love you guys. I’ll be back some day. Mike Woodley’s Daughter.

Lovely Old English Pub, although all the waiters are Italian. They(the waiters) were very funny, excellent food. Watch out for the low beams! As I said it is a very old English pub!
