Konak Meze is a Turkish restaurant set at the end of a row of terraced houses. Smart looking and inviting, we pre-booked a table, which would be advisable at the weekend, as I suspect this fairly small restaurant could get very busy. On the night we visited, it was fairly quiet and we were shown to a large round table; the whole restaurant has a comfortable feel, it feels like you are sitting in somebody’s front room! Not having visited a Turkish restaurant before we went for the the pre-theatre menu(two courses for £11.95), we chose the shared Hot Meze Platter to start, which was a great choice. A huge dish in both variety and size: kofte, falafel, squid rings, pita and halloumi, wonderful flavoursome, I’d definitely have this dish again. My wife and I went for similar main courses, I had the stuffed aubergine with minced lamb, green and red peppers, with home made chips and salad. A great dish, as was my wife’s vegetarian dish of stuffed aubergines, packed with vegetables. Just spicy enough to be flavoursome, not overpowering. All in all, a great meal; after two substantial courses we had no room for a dessert, which was a shame, but I’m sure when we next visit Harrogate, Konak Meze will be first on our list to revisit. The complementary homemade Turkish Delight with the bill was a nice touch, which mirrored the attitude of the staff all evening, helpful and unobtrusive.

This is a great restaurant. Waiters are smartly dressed and very helpful and friendly. It was busy but it was a Saturday night. The tables are very close together but this made it more warm and friendly. We had the hot Meze to start with — very good. My wife had the Beykoz Kebabi which is similar to a Moussaka which was amazing. I had the Konak Grill which is different meats and was very good with the correct balance of herbs and spices. If you like Greek food you will love this as it is similar to Turkish. We will go again and tell our friends about it.

Located in a series of converted terraced homes, this place has a strange vibe for a Turkish restaurant. It feels very victorian from the décor and setting, yet in the background there is distinctly middle eastern music playing. Waiters are in black waist coats and tie, giving the restaurant a high end feel. This restaurant only opened two weeks ago but business was solid for a Thursday evening. Service was fantastic, our waiter was extremely attentive and had the right balance of friendly, but not hovering hospitality. As for the cuisine, it is well described on the menu and artfully presented(indicating a trained chef in the kitchen), but the taste fell short of amazing. I would compare the food’s taste on par with a standard local pub. We had diced chicken breast in vegetables, the koftes, and lamb. All three dishes I would rate the same. By no means was the food bad, it was good, but for the the level of sophistication the restaurant seeks, I think they have some work to do.
